Alicia (gingeralicia88) Hello fellow book lovers,

I was wondering, as I have not yet read a book by David Sedaris if anyone knows which would be the best book to start with, whether I should start with his first or his last or an entirely different anyone. Can anyone help me?

Suzanne (bellamy22) | 610 comments I would start with his first and go in order from there, Because??? You will walk through his growing up and into a writer and you will develop an appreciation for his quirkiness (I hope!!!)
He is also hysterical :)

Thanks for the tip :) Sounds like a good plan ;)

Kelly | 20 comments OOOH - I LOVE David Sedaris! I have read two of his books - "Naked" and "Me Talk Pretty One Day" and am making my way through "When You are Engulfed in Flames" right now. I am not sure what order they were released in, but I read "Naked" first and it definitely dealt a lot with his growing up and it was HILARIOUS! My favorite story was "Get Your Ya-Ya's Out." I think no matter where you start you will thoroughly enjoy him.

Karendenice I've just started Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim for another group. I've only read a few pages, but I'm having a hard time with it. Maybe it's just me, but the first few chapters that I've read don't seem to be all that funny. Like I said maybe 'I'm just not that into it'. Or am I wrong, does it get better? Or maybe I have a different idea of funny? Out of the five different stories that I have read I only found one that I thought was funny and that one was "Us and Them".

His humor is not for everybody.

Kelly | 20 comments I agree with Elena - if you don't like it immediately, I think it probably just isn't your cup of tea.

Erika (erikareading) I don't know if I agree with that. I didn't like the first few essays of Dress Your Family.... After that I ended up enjoying them much more and started to find him more funny as I went on.

It could depend on so many things: your mindset, mood, what you find funny to begin with, how funny you expected it to be, the type of funny you enjoy, etc.

Karen, maybe put it down for a day or two and read one or two more. If you still don't like it then maybe put it away for good.

Karendenice Thanks Erika. I think that I'll do that. It's not like I don't have anymore books to read. Only 2 or 3. LOL
