I've been saving up! Here are a few of my most recent ideas!

Read the HF that's been on your to-read list the longest.

Read a HF that has a month in the title.

Read a HF that has a number in the title.

Read a fable/parable book. (not sure how many of these that are out there...)

Read 4 books with titles containing: king, queen, princess, prince, czar, emporer, empress, etc. They must all have different authors and may be from any genre. I think this one should get 100 points.

I had a similar idea last night! :) Read a HF with a card suit or card "name" in it (King, Queen, Jack, Ace, etc)

I just thought of a problem with requiring a certain book from the tbr list. A lot of my tbr books were added when I entered First Reads contests and may not be available. So maybe if this task is picked, we could have a bit of latitude in the selection.

Or a good twist to this would be to have the zodiac symbol animal in the title or the book features it. For example, if your the year of the monkey, you read the book The Monkey's Raincoat.

It was just pointed out that it would be difficult for certain star signs to find a book. I think the example given was that a person that was a taurus couldn't find anything to do with a bull. I still think it's a good idea, and Djrmel - I didn't even think of Libra. Is there some sort of icon for that sign? Googled it - looks like it is scales, as in used for weighing things. Hmmm....

And I think Holly's suggestion was for Chinese astrological signs, which may be different and possibly a little easier to find something.

Might be interesting to read a Non-fiction and a fiction about the same historical figure. (kind of playing on the challenge this time to read about your favorite historical figure)

I had an idea that would require its own board but would be fun. A moderator start the board with a specific HF book suggestion (Like read Memoirs of a Geisha). If you want to read that book, you reply, and also suggest the next book. If you don't want to, then wait until someone suggests one you want. This way, we will all be taking and giving a book suggestion for someone else! What do you think?

We could have an outside the box category where you have to read 2 or 3 books that are NOT HF. (Or one :p-)

also, my 2cp is that the astrological sign is a great idea... it just needs to be broader than the animal. Like Libra could be having something to do with air (even in the title) or Venus. Or since it has to do with scales, it could be about a judge, or justice. As long as you can explain the connection (even character born under that sign), I think it could work!

I had an idea while driving today (does anyone else do that?) and was thinking of something to do with chess: names of chess pieces in titles (rook, knight, king) or chess related words, chess pieces on the cover, etc.

There are so many books that are challenged or banned each year and it is just pathetic!

Would love to do the banned books too! My library has an event every year where they focus on banned books.

Some other suggestions:

Read HF/Fantasy about a mythical or semi-mythical person (Fairy tale heroes, Greek/Roman mythological figures, Mabinogion heroes, King Arthur, Robin Hood, etc.)

Read a book (mostly) set on a ship

Read HF translated from another language (bonus points if you read it in the other language?)

Read a book set in the area you grew up in

The ship one is nice and original. Also the extra points for the languae part. Maybe it could be also an idea on that one to do something around the language so you are more limited in your choice of which original language.

But now that I write ...maybe being limited isn't that great! :-)
