I'm thinking about writing a parody of KC books, starting with the Cassie series, but I'm not sure how to go about writing a parody, much less one about Cassie. I could use some help.(Maeve, I know you might have a few ideas...)
I have no idea. I generally only really write character introspection or Plot What Plots.
Think caricatures though. Any ridiculous attributes a character has, exaggerate them. Silliness is key. But be warned, parody is practically the hardest thing to write, particularly without making people think you don't like the subject. Terry Prachett is the master, but even he's more satire than anything else.
What's the difference b/t satire and parody(in simple terms)?

Parody is gently poking fun at something/someone by mimicking it/them. Satire is the same thing, but poking harsh fun rather than gentle. Like I said, it's very hard to differenciate when writing.

For anyone else thinking of writing fanfiction. Here is the worst fic of all time. Write like this and I swear to God, I'll disown you :D This fic was actually posted on FF.net, but it got deleted for abuse to the English language.

That is genuinely serious. Isn't it funny how she keeps saying "STOP FLAMING"? The little moron actually didn't understand that she couldn't write. I am by and large a tolerant person (em, well, I pretend to be) but people who think they can write and can't drive me nuts, and people who won't accept constructive criticism trip the terminate-with-extreme-prejudice switch in my head.

I was, Mel. But I got so busy with other things that I couldn't post stories regularly, so I dropped out. I had a whole storyline planned, too. :) Instead I'm practicing my regular fiction skills (see other posts in my Writing section). I need to learn better characterization and dialogue skills.And Maeve is NOT scary. She is correct. Crimes against the English language should be severely punished, especially if the perpetrator is unwilling to accept responsibility for their crime.

Yep? Can you believe it? Me?!? It was the Sisterhood group with all BDB lovers. At first I thought it was going to be a group like the BDB group (it was before I was a mod) but it turned out to be some kind of roleplaying thing. And I hate roleplaying. And since I didn't participate enough I got kicked out. I believe it was when the rest of the girls where in Australia, chasing lessers...

I read your story Maeve. That is some spell Pritkin decides to use on Cassie...and another story with a cliffhanger!!! What is it with these fanfic writers...making us wait MONTHS and leaving us with a cliffhanger. Gah!
However...I am happy that some of the more creative folks out there are keeping us in semi-KC world stories while we wait for the real stuff.

I'm fairly sure we have some German speakers here, so for anyone who has even a passing fluency, this fic is definitely worth reading. Very sad though.

Yes. The English is all me. I am awesome. I'm actually working on it right now and it's pretty hard to accurately reflect the original atmosphere in a translation but one does one's best. (PS Nadine does the translating not me!)
Tell me something new. I mean it's hard enough to write something in German to catch the the readers' attention, but then when I translate the whole thing, it's like hell for me (okay, maybe not hell, but something close to it). I struggle with the right words, the right meanings, so the atmosphere goes 'puff' in the translation.

Hey everyone! Thanks to this forum I had good stuff to read last night! I read a lot of SVM ff and didn't think to look for this series! I read McCora's The Gift and loved it! Now I need to check out some of the others!
