LizSark | 10 comments How many books do you think you own ... roughly? I don't mean you to rush out and count them honestly! I just wondered if I am the only one who cannot bear to part with a good book?

We have books in every single room of our home and a rough estimate is about 4000 books although I also have box loads packed away and I have no idea how many are out there!

I do have a hard time getting rid of books. But I have such a small house that every once in a while I have to get a box ready for the Church rummage sale. I will not get rid of my bear, cat or environment books

Niamh | 2 comments In my living room I have two big, floor to ceiling book cases that are about 6 feet accross. One of those is built into the wall and is very deep so the books are three deep in that one. In each of the three bedrooms there is a small bookshelf that probably holds about 100 books each. The garage has a huge bookshelf filled with all the "how to" books. I'm know there are a few boxes out there as well.

FranMag | 16 comments In college I worked in a used book store. Talk about a dream job for a bibliophile! I added books to my collection almost daily and I kept every book that I read. When I moved from Guam to Hawaii, I brought about 5 books with me and sold all the rest back to the same used book store.

Stidmama | 5 comments I think we counted over 2000 books... including all the books that remained from my childhood. Of course my mother, being an elementary teacher, swiftly absconded with many of the younger children's books as soon as I was off to college! Unfortunately as a young adult my storage locker flooded and I lost at least two boxes (probably more) of books. I now have several partial series, having lost most of my Piers Anthony and at least half my Katharine Kurtz... not to mention most of the Anne McCaffrey! *sob* oh -- I have about 8 horizontal feet of gardening books in my office space...

Fran, what a dream job! And how did you ever choose only 5 books to bring?

Stid, (((sob))) how devastating to lose your books! I too had my mom make off with many of my childhood books for her class shelves, but I have since regained some of them from her...for my own classroom!

As for how many books I have, I truly have no idea. We have:

2 five shelf (almost to the ceiling) and two 4 shelf bookcases downstairs that are packed with books, double rows for the paperbacks.

2 small bookshelves in our bedroom, his and hers

a bookshelf in each boy's bedroom

a selection of favorite hardcover used books going across my mantel over the fireplace (there is a pic of it here http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47... from when I was showing off the new color paint on the walls. I have Tennyson, Frost, an old Pooh, the Borrowers, Dickens, Grimm's Fairy Tales and various others.)

a basket of Daniel's books in the living room

several leaning towers of books in our bedroom, and one small phone stand in the living room that holds baby/nursing books

So 8 official bookshelves and many other storage spots!

Lbd | 13 comments Between my husband and myself we could start our own library. History, archeology, science, a lot of our college books (why?!), and then the books for leisure that are three deep on several bookcases. There are books in every room, on three floors of house! And I still have some squirreled away at my dad's house! At least I did the last time I looked! Total numbers...no idea. It's something I really don't want to even contemplate doing.
