I'd sign up for this book club -- maybe

I was reading a message board at Amazon, where someone suggested an Awards book club. Members would select from titles shortlisted for the Hugo, Nebula, Edgar, Pulitzer, Nobel, NBA, Booker, etc. I think I'd join, especially if the books were cheap, like book club editions.

On the other hand, sometimes awards puzzle me, and none of my favorite authors have ever won anything major.

But these books frequently pass under my radar, me not being the intellectual type, so putting them in a club might get my attention.

I never seem to agree with award winners. (In my head, I'm hearing Ralphie's dad exclaim that he's won a major award!)

I'll pick up a book in the library on the sole basis that it's a Booker winner -- other clubs, not so much.

I'd join a club that highlighted the Runners-Up for all those awards.
