Debbie (sardonicprincessofcheerfulness) Is it a computerised system Scout? You would think that they could do a print-out from the computer of the books issued in your name.....

Scout (goodreadscomscout) No, they said it's not legal to do so, and I'm glad, not because I have anything to hide, but because I appreciate the fact that the government can't invade my privacy any more than they already have. Big Brother should be fictional, not real.

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 492 comments Yes, Scout, I remember those days. And I also used to look and see who else may have checked out the same book.

I also remember the big file cabinets of cards that we used to use to look up books by title, subject, or author.

The card catalogue, I do miss that at times, but it often was a pain to use, or to wait if someone else was using the catalogue (don't know if I would want to return to that system, but it would be nice if libraries at least gave you the option). However, what I find even worse is microfiches, these things always give me major migraines.

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 492 comments Gundula, I can honestly say I don't miss the card catalog. It really was a pain to use. I would take the drawers out and go sit at the table and do my searching. I remember having to write the info on small pieces of paper with those little golf pencils. And, yes, having to wait was irritating.

I don't like the microfiches either.
