Is it a computerised system Scout? You would think that they could do a print-out from the computer of the books issued in your name.....

No, they said it's not legal to do so, and I'm glad, not because I have anything to hide, but because I appreciate the fact that the government can't invade my privacy any more than they already have. Big Brother should be fictional, not real.
Yes, Scout, I remember those days. And I also used to look and see who else may have checked out the same book.I also remember the big file cabinets of cards that we used to use to look up books by title, subject, or author.

The card catalogue, I do miss that at times, but it often was a pain to use, or to wait if someone else was using the catalogue (don't know if I would want to return to that system, but it would be nice if libraries at least gave you the option). However, what I find even worse is microfiches, these things always give me major migraines.
Gundula, I can honestly say I don't miss the card catalog. It really was a pain to use. I would take the drawers out and go sit at the table and do my searching. I remember having to write the info on small pieces of paper with those little golf pencils. And, yes, having to wait was irritating.I don't like the microfiches either.
