It's always good to know about small presses that print high quality books, so here are a couple I'm familiar with. I actually don't own any books from these presses, but I've been interested in them for a while -- I suppose I ought bite the bullet and pick some of these titles up.

The first is Exact Change ([]), which is run by Damon Krukowski and Naomi Yang (from the band Damon & Naomi, and previously Galaxy 500). Exact Change is "devoted to reprinting
and translating works of experimental
literature, and artists' writings," and they have books by Alfred Jarry, John Cage, Kurt Schwitters, Antonin Artaud, etc.

The second is Granary Books ([]), which publishes lots of artist's books, and specializes in collaborations between artists and writers. They have everything from trade books to limited edition hand-made artist books, and feature people like Jerome Rothenberg, John Cage, Charles Bernstein, etc.

Abbeville Press (abbevillepress) | 1 comments Hello all!

Excuse the shameless plug, but we, Abbeville Press, are, too, an independent/small press that specializes in art books, whether it is an artist monograph, an art survey, or collection of art on a given topic.

We have published a series of artist monographs ranging from much more classical art to modern.

Please check us out at

We promise it will be well worth your while!
