For discussions concerning June's book of the month Midaq Alley by Naguib Mahfouz.

Athira (Reading on a Rainy Day) (readingonarainyday) This one sounds pretty interesting. I think I may be reading this.

Cari (carikinney) It does sound interesting. I think I may have to give it a miss for June though. Summer time gets so busy and I'm still behind with several other books. I look forward to comments about the book. Hopefully I can pick it up another time.

I'm going to read this book as well, Aths. My library has a copy, and I have placed a hold on it. I'm still trudging through Peony in Love, though. I'm about half way through. If I'm lucky, I can try and finish it this weekend, so I can start on Midaq Alley early next week. :)

@CK: Sorry you won't have time to read it! Maybe another month when it's a little less hectic.

Thanks for the update, Jeffrey.

I've posted the discussion questions at Yahoo in message #9130 and message #9122 for members who want to discuss the book. I'm also going to save some links in the files section of the Yahoo Cafe Libri Group for future reference.

Anyone have suggestions for the genre tags I should attach to this book? I'm still reading and discussing it with members in the Yahoo Cafe Libri Group, so I might have suggestions once I'm done. Just thought I would pose the inquiry to the group regardless of my reading progress.

Thanks for the help!

message 8: by Cari (new)

Cari (carikinney) Sorry, I'm no help. I gave the book a miss this month. I'm just too far behind with other things. I haven't read the discussions for this book, but I hope it's been an interesting read so far!

That's ok, CK. I might ask the people at the Yahoo Cafe Libri Group for some advice on the genre tags too if I don't get any comments from people on here.

So far, it has been an interesting read. I'm enjoying it despite my slowness!

After finishing this book, I've decided to label it with the fiction tag and probably a new tag, like Egypt. Should it also be tagged with "historical setting" since it takes place during WWII?

message 11: by Jeffrey (new)

Jeffrey Taylor (jatta97) | 13 comments How about something like, Egypt, history and society?

I labeled it fiction, Egypt, and historical setting (which I've used with past books on the shelf). I didn't include the society tag since it's more of a theme/too specific on what the book is about.

Thanks for the suggestions, Jeffrey!
