Zoe (playingbythebook) | 18 comments Hello all,

I recently compiled a list of picture books about mail / post / letters and cards, with the help of with the help of the generous community who make up the Child Lit email group at Rutgers and I was wondering if there is a way to upload it here? As I'm new I'd appreciate some guidance! If it's not possible / in the meantime, the list is available (in 4 parts - there are 99 books in total!) at Amazon:

Oh, gosh, I have been in love with getting mail/letters since I was a little kid!!! I still write some pen-pals I've known since I was maybe nine years old!!! Love this list of books! :-) Thank you!

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1077 comments Zoe, You can make up a Listopia list, which other members will be able to expand on.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1077 comments Wow! No wonder there are so many books I've never read. Yes, thank you so much.

Carolyn (seeford) | 21 comments Wow! Quite a list!
I think some of the Flat Stanley sequel books also involve mailing himself to other countries to visit.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1077 comments Actually, I just read the first Flat Stanley book and I think he did get mailed somewhere!

ABC (mary6543) | 341 comments Wowza, I never knew there were so many books about letters. I don't know if you can still add to the list, but the wonderful book "The Hundred Dresses" contains letters back and forth.

Zoe (playingbythebook) | 18 comments Hi Abigail, thanks for putting all the books on this thread. Quite a few of the suggestions I got for this list came from members of the Child lit email group I mentioned so I haven't read them all.

Of those on the list I have really enjoyed Mailing May and The Giant Hug.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1077 comments I loved The Hundred Dresses when I was young. I do have a copy of it.

Katri (Valancy) Just reading these book titles makes me want to pick up letter-writing again! There are some letters I should reply to... I was a huge letter-writing obsessee for a long time, I don't know why I've fallen out of the habit in the past couple of years. Maybe we should start a pen-pal thread!

I read a lot of novels in letter format when I was younger - if I think of any that aren't on the list and that would be available in English, I'll post them here! I also love to read published letters of historical figures, but that's not really for this group...

Ooo! A pen-pal thread, that sounds quite fun, Katri :-) I, too, am a long-time letter-lover.

Zoe (playingbythebook) | 18 comments Hi Kathryn, Katri and all

I've actually got an international postcard swap for families going on at the moment on my blog (although we're now closed to families based in the US) - this was the reason I collected the list of books on mail/post/letters in the first place.

If you want to take part, get in touch soon as the deadline for signing up is Friday 30th April.

Moderators - please let me know if this post isn't ok. I didn't set out to "advertise" my swap - but seeing as penpals were mentioned it seemed ok to mention the swap.

Oh, I am so sad the postcard swap is closed to US families! (Though I understand your reasoning) Do you think it will open up again in the future???

I do see there is another postcard swap taking place "The Great American Postcard Swap" which you reference on your blog:

Zoe (playingbythebook) | 18 comments I won't be doing another swap until next year. I've got almost 200 families signed up - I'm thrilled as they will all be sending each other book recommendations!
