The relationship between Kate and Daniel is somewhat of a distant one and this is because of Kate's fear os something bad happening to him. Kate believes that bad things happen to the people she gets close to. If anyone agrees or diagrees please feel free to leave comments

Perhaps bad things happen BECAUSE she doesn't allow herself to get close to others. She coudln't help what happened to her parents, but then she purposely began pulling away from everyone.
