Saving the World...Again
((If we find Perkn, we either search his person for the controller, or force him to tell us where it is.))
James closed his eyes for a moment, then opened them. "Okay, it should be reasonably safe to open the door now." So he did.
((People on the other side should be kinda covered in earth....))

Marina saw a few people spitting and blinking back red dirt in blindness. She tip-toed past and waited for James in Perkn's office, not far from the entrance. "What do you suppose we do now?" She questioned softly.
James looked around. "I kinda thought Perkn would be somewhere around here, seeing as this is the super-secret part of the secret lair," he said half-heartedly. He was exhausted. He just wanted to get his friends and get out of here, not have to deal with evil men with plans for world domination, magic-using robots, injured girlfriends, a friend who'd been operated on, and have everyone look to him as a leader on top of it!
((>.< Neither do I... I think James will have to do something drastic and Mary Sue-ish so we can get this over with. *sigh* ))
"Hm," James muttered. He concentrated. Has this man been here, trod on you? he asked the ground.
Yes. He walked here, then went there, it answered.
James sighed and opened his eyes. "I think I can track him," he said. Ground, lead me on the path he followed, he added silently.
This way, the ground replied. James started walking.

((What is Mary Sue-ish?))Marina followed James. "Maybe he drank water." Marina followed James and his ground path, and concentrated on the scent of water. As long as there was a trace of it all along the ground's path, they were trailing a live person. "We'd better walk fast to catch up," Marina suggested through a veil of chestnut-hued hair.
((Umm... I mean it's very unlikely and super and unrealistically amazing. Much frowned upon in writing culture.))
"Good point," James said, an idea occurring to him. "Okay, Marina, you're going to have to stay calm and not freak out about what's going to happen now. Take a very deep breath." Suddenly they both disappeared underground, James latching onto Marina's hand. They sped through the earth faster than any person could walk.

Marina gulped in air and closed her eyes. She thought about how upset Raven would be if she found out about this. Then she sputtered through the dirt, "P-th-th-ear!"((Do you understand Marina?))
((she said "Here!" but she's spitting dirt. James should stop first, before he asks what she said.))
They both shot aboveground, James staying expertly on his feet and steadying Marina. "Are you okay? I know tunneling doesn't always agree with everyone..."
Marina coughed out dirt and lifted her finger. Perkn was ten feet in front of them, still moving, and with his back turned.
James blinked, looked at Perkn, and the next moment Perkn was buried up to his neck in the ground.
"Wha--? Who--?" Perkn sputtered.
"Wha--? Who--?" Perkn sputtered.
"Hello, Perkn," James said, striding into view.
"You! I thought I had [names whatever he did that I'm too lazy to look up]!"
"Fortunately, I escaped," James said, crossing his arms. "You and your people have not treated my friends kindly, Perkn. Where's the remote that turns off the chip in Thomas's arm?" James almost lost control of his emotions as he said this but just kept them in check.

"Don't lie to me. You don't want to make me angrier than I already am," James warned. "The remote that I've beaten up all your guards for. Oh wait... it's in your jacket, isn't it?" Not waiting for a response, James quickly pulled Perkn out of the ground (keeping him constrained) and rifled through his coat. Perkn strained to get out of his constraints, but they were as hard as... well, rock.
Marina helped to search Perkn's many coat pockets, and found that his jacket was about as unorganized as her backpack."Who are you?" asked Perkn, at the sight of a girl with long straight hair littered with clumps of mud.
Marina looked coldly into Perkn's face with her hazel green eyes, "I'm Marina." She gave him a stern look to let him know that if he didn't give them the remote, things would not turn out well for him.
"How much stuff do you have in this thing?" James asked frustratedly. He held a hand over the pile of junk and tried to summon the exact shape of the chip's remote to his hand.
((Should it work?))
((Should it work?))
((No, I don't think so. I think a manual search is best. Umm... inside coat pocket? Should James or Marina find it?))
((Remember what I told you about in US hist? Well, let's put that plan into action...))
"It's not in here," James said, letting his hand fall.
"It's not in here," James said, letting his hand fall.
Raven didn't know where James and Marina had gone, for she'd blacked out for a bit while earthly powers making her wounds close up. He wounds weren't healed, mind you, but she could move without opening them instantly...
Raven gasped and then sat up, opening her eyes to see a sudden rush of color. "Aagh!" She cried, covering her eyes with her hands. Wha--what the h*ll was that!?
((Yes, I'm giving her back her eyesight.))

((great))
"Raven? What's the matter?" Thomas asked worriedly. Crap, I'm sounding like James.
--
James glared at Perkn's suddenly smirking face. Fed up, he snatched up something from the pile and held it to Perkn's head. A gun.
"Where's the remote?" James asked again, his expression hard.
"You'll kill me to find out?" Perkn laughed, but there was undercurrent of uneasiness.
James thumbed back the safety catch and put a finger on the trigger. "Yes. If I have to."

((Is that sarcasm I hear?))
Raven groaned a bit, trying to get that stinging sensation out of her head. "My....my eyes...."
Raven groaned a bit, trying to get that stinging sensation out of her head. "My....my eyes...."
((nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo... just slight annoyance that my friend always has to make things more complicated and exciting.))
"Maybe. Depends on whether or not he tells us where the remote is." James's eyes never left Perkn's.
"If you kill me, I won't be able to tell you where the remote is," Perkn said with fake confidence.
"Actually, I don't need you to tell me where it is. There's metal in the remote. I could call that metal to me and it would come, wherever it is. I don't need to make you tell me where it is. It's just easier. For me, at least."
"You're bluffing," Perkn said desperately.
"Am I? Either way, I'll get the remote. It's just that one way, you aren't alive to see it." James's eyes held Perkn's. Very slowly, his finger tightened on the trigger.
"Okay! Don't shoot me! I'll tell you where it is." Perkn's eyes filled with tears. "Just don't kill me, don't kill me, don't kill me..."
"Where is it, then?" James didn't move.
"In the... in the filing cabinet. Top drawer." Perkn's eyes shifted uneasily.
"You better not be lying," James warned. "Marina, check it out."
((Whoa. Sorry for the flood, everyone.))

"I don't know...I just opened my eyes and there was a flash of light....agh..." She said, still covering them with her hands.
"I...um...yeah, okay, Thomas..." She said hesitantly. She slowly removed her hands from her closed eyes.
"Really?" She opened her eyes, making them water a little at the sudden intake of light, but kept them wide. "Oh my gods..." She muttered, as her vision returned.
"Can I be of any assistance?" the robot inquired. "I am knowledgeable on many medical texts and psychological readings..."
"No, but thanks, Slaty," Thomas said, looking up. "I really appreciate the offer, though."
"No, but thanks, Slaty," Thomas said, looking up. "I really appreciate the offer, though."
Marina backed away slowly as James continued to hold the gun to Perkn's head. She walked to the filing cabinet and reached for the top drawer. She grabbed the handle and pulled.Returning, she spoke softy. "The key. Give me the key Perkn; you know that drawer is locked."
"I can't," Perkn said, glaring again. "Your friend here made sure of that..."
"Shut up," James said, a little absently. He reached a hand toward the pile of Perkn's stuff and a key shot out. "Try this one, Marina."
"Shut up," James said, a little absently. He reached a hand toward the pile of Perkn's stuff and a key shot out. "Try this one, Marina."
"Thank you, James."Marina returned to the filing cabinet. She inserted the key and turned it. Softly, tumblers clicked. Without removing the key, Marina pulled the handle. Inside the drawer rested two remotes. She picked up both and returned the James and Perkn with them and the key.
"Two remotes? And we don't even know if they're the right ones," James said, sounding surprised and annoyed.
Suddenly Perkn cackled. "And you'll never know! You'll have to leave here to see if your friend regains his power and once you're gone, I'll -"
James hit Perkn on the head with the gun and the man's eyes rolled up into his head. His head slumped; he was unconscious. "He should sleep for a while," James muttered, ripping of another strip of cloth from his shirt and stuffing it in Perkn's mouth. "And when he wakes up, he can't call for help."

((And WHY is James missing shirt?))Marina hesitated. Gulping, she responded, "I guess." She's trying to sound calm, but she's looking at her shoes.
((well, first he tore up his shirt to bandage Raven's wounds, and now he ripped off some more to gag Perkn...
Actually, he's just missing a sleeve from his t-shirt. That's all. He used to have a button-up, but all that's been used as bandages.))
"All right. This shouldn't take long." James grabbed Marina around the waist and they disappeared under the ground.

Brown dirt whirred past Marina and James. Marina felt dizzy and did not move until they were above the surface.
"James!" Thomas grabbed his friend's hand and helped him to his feet, then helped Marina. "What happened?"
Marina's head spun, but, seeing a blurry version of Thomas, she managed to pull out her remote, both her and James were carrying one.
"We found Perkn and got the remote," James said, and then after a pause, continued, "...we think."

"The door on the right, I know," James said. "Um..." He gave Thomas a sideways look.
His friend instantly understood. "Slaty, please stand back and let James and my associates work. We will tell you when you are needed. Guard Ms. Raven here from harm, and make sure she doesn't do anything strenuous. Like try to fight," he added, giving Raven a look.
((The robot thinks Marina is Dr. Pontae, one of Perkn's head scientists.))
