Saving the World...Again
((Oh my gosh! Bobbie, this is for when you get back. On the summary of this story you misspelled 'where'! Sorry... just had to mention it. Hah!))
Marina and James looked at each other. Then, thinking that it might be more guards, they dove into the office.James immediately began to pick up papers, but Marina halted him. "Wait." she cautioned, holding out her hand. Flipping to a clean page that she titled "EW: Perkn's OFFICE" ((EW stands for east wing)), Marina quickly sketched the arrangement of each paper. When they finished, it would certainly look like Perkn's organization... they could get away with their search.
When Marina signaled to James that he could resume his search, they both began rifling through Perkn's papers. A few minutes had passed, and they began to worry. Perkn would be awake soon; they had to hurry. Then, Marina shoved a paper in front of James's face. It was a drawing of the remote... with all buttons labeled. For a brief moment she marveled at the detail of the illustration, but soon, almost immediately, they both began scouring the page for any information on where it might be hidden. As it turned out, there were multiple remotes, but with small modifications they can work on any set of restraints.
((James is good with computers, right?))
((I'm thinking that they could find out that the remote is made out of metal and James could "call" it.))
((Reasonably. He's pretty good with most electronic stuff, because of the metal thing, but...yeah, I guess so. I mean, his dad's a computer engineer.))
As James became uninterested in the diagram and began searching through other papers ((Is it okay for me to say that?)), Marina copied the diagram into her notepad, twice. Marina was not going to let anything appear to be missing and wanted to have back up. When she turned over the paper to search for any information on the back that she may have missed, Marina noticed that it had a detailed diagram of the motherboard contained within the remote... and... it was made out of metal! Marina's heart leaped. Looking up joyously, Marina shouted, "James!" Then, realizing her mistake, she slapped a hand to her mouth and continued in a subdued whisper, "This thing is made out of metal! You should try to 'call' it. And then you could program it so that it would open Thomas's cuffs. The instructions are right here!" Smiling up at James for a brief moment, Marina furiously copied the reverse side of the diagram, again, twice.
((Usually I would say no, that's not okay, but in this case, it's fine.))
James was at Marina's side in an instant and started scanning the diagram. "How do we know that Perkn didn't put another one of those chip things in here somewhere?" he asked absently. Most of his mind was occupied with figuring out how to program the remote, once he got it.

Marina heard some distant footsteps, but they were growing louder, and quickly. Glancing around the room she said urgently, "Listen, we've got to get out of here. I said your name a little too loudly. I already copied down everything." She began placing papers according to her drawing. "You're going to have to trust me on this. Run!" Marina snatched James's wrist and pulled him towards the exit, releasing her grip only when he began to move his own legs. As they were running Marina remembered one misplaced paper that she hadn't put in place. Cringing at the thought, Marina forced herself to keep running. By now, the guards had probably already reached Perkn's office. She hoped desperately that they wouldn't get caught.
"Where are we going?" James panted. "I can't summon any metal to me if I'm not staying in one spot."
((Um, well, she never put in anything else. Oh, they have yet to leave the entire chamber, they've only left the east wing.))
((They were in the chamber. They came when Marina shouted because there are no young girls among them and they don't know anyone named James.))
((The entry chamber where Perkn and the other dude are unconcious, or the office, or beyond the office?))
((Noooo.))
Thomas rolled his eyes. "Blind people don't need sunglasses," he said. "And James won't care if you're blind or not, if I know him. And I do."
--
James speeded up his pace and rocketed around two corners, skidding to a stop just in time to see the last guard rush by in the opposing hallway. He glanced around and spotted an alclove where a water fountain was stationed (secret underground labs/lairs need water fountains? he thought). He pulled Marina into it, then sank to the ground to catch his breath.

"I'm not worried about that, I'm worried about him acting different around me, like I lost feeling in one of my legs or something!"
"He will act different," Thomas said, "but he has to or else you'll probably trip over everything you touch."
"I can cope with that, what I can't cope with is him acting like he could have prevented my loss of eyesight." Raven said, folding her arms.
Marina noticed what James had seen a second before: a water fountain. Grateful for a break in the rocky atmosphere, she pressed her body up against the fountain and watched the cool water trickle out of the spout. Then she thrust her head beside it and gulped down the water. It tasted ever so slightly of metal, but, none-the-less, it was refreshing. Then Marina looked at James. "Well, do you want to try to summon the remote, or do you want to get out of here first?" she asked. Secretly Marina knew that James loved it in there... it was like rock-paradise (and not the type of music), however she also knew that it would be risky to be in a place easily accessible to the guards from the east wing. If they were caught... well, she'd rather not think about it.
James groaned and rubbed his temples. "We should probably get out of here, but we still have to rescue Thomas. Besides, it doesn't take that long for me to summon something metal...as long as that power-cancelling chip isn't around it. But," he said, pausing as another guard ran by, "I get your point. I think I'll just try to make it seem like there isn't a water fountain here at all; that way no one will see us when they pass by."
"Mm," Thomas murmured. "You know, when we get out of this mess, I'll take you to see my friend Harumi. She can heal all sorts of stuff."
Marina looked at James, her face creased with confusion. "What does the water fountain have to do with this?" she asked, utterly bewildered.
"Ugh," James muttered. "I'm sorry. I'm not the best at explaining things. What I mean is, I'll make it look like this alcove here, where we are, is just another bit of wall. It'll be a stretch, but I'm pretty sure I can do it." ((He's experimenting with his powers...since he can do stuff with rock he thinks he can make something look like rock too.))
--
"Yeah, and I think she'd be happy to have a friend with powers who was a girl," Thomas said, smiling slightly. "She get exasperated with us so easily..."

Thomas nodded. He alone (and James's dad, of course) knew that James used to live at an orphanage until he was adopted. From what his friend had let slip, it had sounded like a pretty horrible place.

Raven didn't know he nodded, and just said nothing. She was tired, but she'd stay awake and act as much of a guard as she could.
"Look, can you just forget about the water fountain for a second and let me concentrate?" James snapped, exasperated. "It'll still be here!" He blinked and then said, "Sorry...I mean, just please be quiet for a sec, okay?" James was running on energy that he had no idea he had and was very close to exhaustion, which was making him cross and impatient.
--
Thomas noticed Raven's eyelids drooping. "Why don't you rest for a bit," he said. "I'm not going anywhere and I've gotten my beauty sleep already."

James sighed and resisted the urge to rub his temples again or bang his forehead against the wall (which would certainly have brought the gaurds running). Instead he sat up straight, closed his eyes, and imagined a very thin sheet of rock stretching across the alcove, a sheet of rock that looked exactly like the wall around it. James breathed out slowly, anchored the wall down, and opened his eyes. Rock covered in white paint greeted his eyes.
James frowned at the wall, closed his eyes, and pressed his fingers up against it. For a moment it resisted the pressure, then his hand passed through into air, giving him the odd sensation that his wrist was encased in Jello.
James grinned and pulled his hand back. Sweet. "I'm going to try summoning the remote now, okay?" he told Marina, trying to make up for snapping at her earlier.
