Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments This book touches in a controversial topic. I double dog dare you to keep an open mind and give this book a try!!

Book: Fallen from Grace
Author: Laura Leone
Discussion: They are called escorts, gigolo, manwhore, hooker, rentboy, boy2rent, rentman, callboy, hustler, workingboy, or male prostitute. Whatever the term used it's a sexual service offered by a male. What did you think of those in this "line of work" before you read the book? Did your view or perspective change after reading the story? What did you think of the heroines involvement with someone in that line of work?
Duration: 1 month
Plot:
A woman who's made mistakes. A man with too many secrets. Will love be their second chance or their downfall?

While trying to save her spiraling career, Sara Diamond befriends her new next door neighbor, Ryan Kinsmore. A soft-spoken younger man with charm and good looks, Ryan leads a mysterious double life which becomes increasingly hard for him to conceal from Sara as their intimacy grows.

Even after Ryan falls in love with her and stops pretending to himself that this isn't wrong, that Sara won't be hurt by their relationship, he can't give her up or walk away.

As Sara learns the truth about him, trapped in a world of lies, danger, and sex-for-hire, Ryan becomes determined to find a way out of the life he was drawn into as a runaway minor, and equally determined to rescue a street kid whom he finds falling into the same traps which once caught him. But Ryan's secret life is lived in a ruthless world which won't easily let him go. Having fallen so far from grace, can he find his way back?

Anne OK (anne-ok) | 223 comments I met this challenge several years ago and presently, Fallen from Grace resides in its special place among my "Keepers." This emotionally draining book was superb and a real surprise. I had no idea the treat that awaited on the pages before me. FFG was truly a wonderful and entertaining reading experience with characters I loved and cheered on.

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments Nice! So far the friends from GR that have read it, rated highly and as keepers.
Will you come back after we start the book this month and discuss it with us? You can tell us what you think on the escort topic, before and after you read the book.

Jennefer (jenneferpracticex3) | 247 comments This sounds great! I can't wait to read it! I recently read Faking It by Elisa Lorello which also has a male escort as the love interest. I know I have mentioned it on these boards before, it was wonderful. I cannot express how much I love that book. I think much of that was just the author’s style but Dev from that book is probably my all time favorite character in any genre. I will be interested to see how this compares.

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments Oh it sounds intriguing...I put it on my "to-order" list, thanks for pointing it out!

Jennefer (jenneferpracticex3) | 247 comments You are welcome Rossy! If you have a Kindle (or a kindle IPhone app or Kindle for PC-you which you can download for free) it is only $.99 from Amazon and well worth it.

Regina Polli | 177 comments I read a book where the hero worked in a brothel - Broken Wing- it is historical and very good.

I liked the plot of FFG. I`m put it in my TBR!

message 8: by Rossy (new)

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments Not really into historicals. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 1750 comments This is one of my all-time favorite contemporary romances, definitely a keeper for me. I just read it last year. Unfortunately, I have too many other challenges going this month to manage a re-read, but I think I remember most of it anyway. If it's OK, I'd sure like to follow the discussion and chime in if I feel I have anything to add.

Jennefer (jenneferpracticex3) | 247 comments Well I didn't find this book this weekend. (I managed to pick up 6 or 7 other books that I really don't need! LOL) There is one other used bookstore I am going to check out sometime this week and if I have no luck there I will find a copy online to order! Don't worry Rossy, I am going to read this with you this month! I am determined!!!

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 1750 comments Jennefer, I found my copy online at abebooks.com. I just checked there a couple of weeks ago, and they still had several copies available, some for under $4 with free shipping.

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments When will you guys like to read this book? Does anyone not have their copy yet?

message 22: by Jennefer (new)

Jennefer (jenneferpracticex3) | 247 comments I kept hoping I would find a copy of it at one of my favorite used bookstores but no such luck. I finally broke down and ordered a copy online but have not received it yet. I am thinking I probably will not have a chance to start it until the first week of May or so.

How about you Rossy? Have you read it yet?

message 23: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne I've just found this thread and just wanted to say just how good this book is. I read it a few months ago and look forward to seeing what you all think about it.

KimKirt | 1638 comments Of course my library doesn't carry this one either (darn it). I will check out the local used book store ****maybe**** they will have it. At any rate, I have added it to my TBR list.

message 30: by Rossy (new)

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments I hope you can find it Kim. If you can't find it there i think Amazon still have a few used copies.

message 31: by KimKirt (new)

KimKirt | 1638 comments I might have to break down and order this one. I try not to buy books because I read them so fast! LOL!

message 35: by Rossy (new)

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments I'll start it as soon as am done with the book i started today. I'm going to need a break from this series anyway.

message 36: by Jennefer (last edited May 17, 2010 08:30PM) (new)

Jennefer (jenneferpracticex3) | 247 comments Finished this last week... I always seem to need a couple days to decide what I really think about a book I guess :)

*****Spoilers galore! Beware! :) ******

So this was good, I liked it and I am glad I read it, but.... I don't know, it was a bit off for me. The story was solid, I liked the characters very much, and many of the scenes seemed so genuine and loving they made me smile (I loved the scene where he finds her keys for her mid conversation and hands them to her w/o her having to ask). But, but, but.... arg! I cant quite put my finger on it. I feel like in some ways it lacked subtlety, things are over explained and the characters are a bit too mature and understanding. For example when he gives her a hard time for being upset that his pimp called after they made love just a few short hours later she is really reasonable enough to calmly admit that is not fair of her because she knew what she was getting into and then to calmly give him her ultimatum, really? She does not even get a day or two to be unreasonably angry at him for not reading her mind and offering to quit w/out her having to ask? I don't know, it's just too tidy in a way for a very messy and complicated situation.

And the end... OMG I could have screamed! You just can not end the last chapter of a book with one of the (granted small side) characters in an unknown situation w/out resolution! The epilogue is for a snap-shot of the HEA, not for conflict resolution! How did she think it was ok to have Adam call Ryan in the last chapter saying he needs help and end it w/out us knowing what happened, if he was ok and what Ryan does to help him! These are not things to be addressed in an epilogue!!! Oh that really pissed me off! Not to mention the rest of the epilogue was just one long conversation of "oh did I tell you this good news?" " oh did I tell you that good news?".... we learn that Sara got a very large book deal, Ryan got a raise because he put his old contact from escorting to good fund raising use, Adam ended up accepting help from safehouse, they are going to be married by a Rabbi, Adam is the best man, Catherine's business went under, oh yeah and they are going to buy a house and go on a lavish honeymoon (did I forget anything?) that is a lot to cram into a very short epilogue and just exhausting and annoying to read if you ask me.

I love reading a good unconventional romance and this really delivered as far as that goes. In some ways it was handled so well and seemed so genuine, but in other ways it was really just frustrating to me. I enjoyed it as I was reading it (until the very end) but really, now after the fact, the more I think about it, the less I like it. Gosh, I sound like such a brat! lol

Thank you so much Rossy for starting this dare :) I am glad I got to try something new and different!

message 37: by Rossy (new)

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments LOL! Sounds like the book was a rollercoaster for you.

Ok, don't kill me BUT i have not been able to read it this month. It has been a little crazy at work and other things going around, not to mention i just have not been in the mood for this kind of story.
I'm glad you mentioned the conflict that was resolved in the epilogue, as that would have made me quite upset.

I will try to fill this book in next month though for sure!

message 38: by Jennefer (new)

Jennefer (jenneferpracticex3) | 247 comments Yeah, rollercoaster is probably the right word. It was good but frustrating too.

I know how that goes when you want to read something but not right now for whatever reason so don't worry about it Rossy! I look forward to hearing what you think of it when you do get to it so be sure to come back and comment!!! :)
