My highest cost for a book was a Mary Balogh = $ 25 on ebay. I've also got suckered into paying $ 13 for Teresa Denys = Silver devil, thanx to Ami thread of dangeruos heroes. The book turned out to be a dud for me 'cuz the hero was a creepy psycho. I posted on Ami that the 1st person to email me can get it as freebie.

I'm sorry about The Silver Devil debacle, V. I think MB is worth the $$ if you're a fan.
I paid $11 for A Rose at Midnight by the great Anne Stuart, and $11 for Iguana Bay by Theresa Weir. I am cheap, so I didn't like doing it, but they were worth it in the end. Of course, I recently bought an extra copy of ARaM for $1 on the clearance rack. Totally random!

I don't know because I'm very cheap with that kind of stuff. The most is probably 10 bucks if its an author that I really love. But normally I usually look everywhere before I splurge.
I think the most I have ever spent was (maybe) $15 to $20 including shipping. Its great having a good ubs and I wish I had one near me. I found Stormfire and Silver Devil for $0.99 at a ubs while traveling last year. Read Stormfire (sold it on ebay for $0.99), but still have not read Silver Devil.

There's a few Half Price Books in my area, and a private used bookstore. I haven't gotten there in a while, because of my schedule. Maybe this weekend. We'll see.
I'm also a sucka for auction lots. I'd bid @ the last minute like cwazy just to get my grubby paws on some books & end up buying the entire lot. Then I panic when I get in the mail, thinking, how the hell am I evah gonna finish reading all in my lifetime ? 8^2

I'm not patient enough to the bidding thing. I just go on Amazon or Half.com and buy the book. But it's clear that your patience pays off, V.

That's another worry of mine. I can't stay on the computer the whole time, or always keep checking back.
I think that's the problem I have too, Danielle. You really have to have the time or put in a bid at the last minute.

Yeah, it's easier to just buy the book off Amazon. Of course, I don't get the huge bargain of several books that way.
yeah the key to success is to keep refreshing the page 'till the final countdown. It's harder when it ends during work hours, 'cuz the internet police monitors internet usage, so I gotta minimize the screen & surreptitiously look left, right & behind me 'cuz my co-worker got written up for getting caught playing Solitaire online & she was put up as the poster gal for what happens when U get caught for non-work related internet usage. It's a knuckle biter 4 sure, but it's worth it to get my grubby paws on the books that I want =^D

That's annoying when the bosses cut down on internet useage (as long as it's not porn or something like that). Sometimes there's literally nothing to do. I remember when I worked at the library during college. We couldn't read when we worked at the help desk. Imagine that? No reading in a library???
Haha... true. Sometimes I wish I could just stare into space when I have nuffink @ all to do. My co-worker who got written up, said that it ain't fair, 'cuz she didn't hurt patient care by playing stupid online game but she was used to teach others a valuable lesson that if U try it, U pay for it w/ interest. My sis used to work as library assistant & said library peeps use internet to watch porn & she wouldn't touch the keyboards w/out gloves 'cuz U never know where those peeps' hands have been ! =^B
I've always found that rule to be stupid. If there is nothing to do at work, then you should be able to go online. As long as the sites are not vulgar or porn, then it should be a go. Only times you should get reprimanded is if you didn't hand the boss the report because you were shopping too much. LOL!
Methinks the powers that be should allow us the bottom feeders read a book during slow period. My other co-worker got snitched on when others saw her just sitting there reading her book (the cover says Shelly Laurenston). She got dinged on her annual eval for not taking the initiative (1 of eval key elements for scoring) to inform her boss that she ran outta work. My strategy when I absolutely don't have anything to do, I spread papers & charts all over my desk to make it look like a busy bee haha... the ruse works whenever the internet police patrols my area. Of course, when we're home, I read tennis news & personal emails. Internet is like a buffet for my mind !

That is just ridiculous for employers to be like that! To me, it's worse to be staring into space or sleeping at work, when you have nothing to do. That's what I'd do if I wasn't on the internet or reading. I'm with you on the internet, V. I remember when my computer had a virus, and I didn't have internet access for a week and a half. It was awful! I did get a lot of reading and writing done though.
I saw one I really want on ebay for $24... what? Anyway, you guys should try betterworldbooks.com most second hand books (in great condition by the way) are available for the least $3.98. Shipping within the US is free, and all the proceeds go to various charities around the world. If you buy a book going to cocoa farmer's kids in Uganda, they send you a tasty chocolate bar with your order. Awesome site.

Uh - I pay 30p (about 20c) for the HQNs that I read...and they are available in almost all the old book shops - most I've paid is probably 50p/35c (maybe)...
The limit I'll pay is $10 for an out of print Harlequin Presents. But so far I've only paid $3 or 4 for one. I don't like the idea of paying more than what the book actually cost when it was in print XD
