Maggie (magfly) | 87 comments Saint patty's

The river is green
men are tiny
beer is filled to the brim

Shamrocks and green
is all you see
but why
we are not Irish
we are American

The shamrock sits there,
quietly, waiting
under the Irish sunlight.

Amanda (dreamweaver38) | 509 comments I love them all!!!

Especially Maggie's! It's so true... We're not Irish, so why the hell do we celebrate it?

ok, here's mine. It's not exactly a St. Patty's day poem, but there's a leprecaun (sp?). I wrote in Grade 8... so yeah... it's kinda pathetic. But w/e.

Locked Away, Deep Inside

There was a time,
very long ago,
when an old man lost his shoe.
And when he found it on his head,
it was shiny and brand new.

For in his shoe lived a leprechaun,
a lot like you or me.
But never make him angry,
or the treasure you’ll never see.

Leprechauns hide a treasure,
but it you’ll never see.
Unless you help your neighbour,
but you still won’t get the key.
For the treasure isn’t locked away,
it’s deep in you and me.
The leprechauns come to bring it out,
and the kinder you will be.

There was a time,
very long ago,
when a young girl lost her coffee.
And when she found it on her desk,
it tasted just like toffee.

For in her desk lived a leprechaun,
as small as small can be.
But never call him names or tease,
or the treasure you’ll never see.

Leprechauns hide a treasure,
but it you’ll never see.
Unless you help your neighbour,
but you still won’t get the key.
For the treasure isn’t locked away,
it’s deep in you and me.
The leprechauns come to bring it out,
and the kinder you will be.

There was a time,
very long ago,
when a little boy lost his smile.
And when he found it on a friend,
he will smile all the while.

For in his friend lived a leprechaun,
who sits and drinks ice tea.
And every time he shines a smile,
a better world it will be.

Leprechauns hide a treasure,
but it you’ll never see.
Unless you help your neighbour,
but you still won’t get the key.
For the treasure isn’t locked away,
it’s deep in you and me.
The leprechauns come to bring it out,
and the kinder you will be.

FIN
