sliknl (silkworm) | 2 comments Please don't beat me up - it's not a book - but I've been looking for a looong time for a short poem which captures the sounds of birds as they awake in the morning - all onomatopeia, and very cleverly done. Any help would be appreciated, with many thanks.

Dorothy Miller | 9 comments Not a poem-but a silly song- (making up the spelling here) "Early in the moring, when I'm fast asleep, there comes a little chirping, there comes a little peep, then the little birdie, with the funny name, it's "The klina-klina feegle fugle, ashtabackina beagle bugle, earga-splittin' loudin bloomin bird!"
I wouldn't call this clever, so maybe not what you're looking for.

sliknl (silkworm) | 2 comments I agree, it's not the one I'm looking for, but it's certainly amusing and unique! I'm making a note about it, and I appreciate you sharing it. I had not run into this one before. Thanks so much.

Jan (auntyjan) Are you absolutely certain the poem was only about birds? Your mention of onomatopeia brought to mind the following two poems which I hope you will enjoy, anyway.

Jump or jiggle
Frogs jump
Caterpillars hump

Worms wiggle
Bugs jiggle

Rabbits hop
Horses clop

Snakes slide
Seagulls glide

Mice creep
Deer leap

Puppies bounce
Kittens pounce

Lions stalk--
But--
I walk!

I Speak, I Say, I Talk

Cats purr.
Lions roar.
Owls hoot.
Bears snore.
Crickets creak.
Mice squeak.
Sheep baa.
But I SPEAK!

Monkeys chatter.
Cows moo.
Ducks quack.
Doves coo.
Pigs squeal.
Horses neigh.
Chickens cluck.
But I SAY!

Flies hum.
Dogs growl.
Bats screech.
Coyotes howl.
Frogs croak.
Parrots squawk.
Bees buzz.
But I TALK!

Thanks, Abigail, and I agree; I moved this thread to UNSOLVED.

Not birds waking in the morning, and not really short, and not entirely onomatopoeic, but have you seen George MacDonald's Bird-Songs?

Sliknl, do you want people to keep looking for this poem?
