Randy | 34 comments I posted a recovery/fly fishing memoir:

http://www.goodreads.com/story/show/6...

It orginally appeared, under a different title, in FlyFishing & Tying Journal.

Justin | 19 comments This is a good piece, Randy. I read it a few years ago (?), I imagine when it ran originally (or maybe someone sent me a link to it). Thanks for posting -- definitely worth a re-read.

This piece is so well constructed; a memoir that reads like a short story with the structure and music of a poem. For example, I like how the line . . .

"Wanting my fly to sink to the bottom, I didn’t retrieve."

. . . begins a paragraph and is followed, a few paragraphs later, by:

"My fly bounced on the bottom. I forgot to retrieve."

The cadence of this parallel word play resembles the verse and chorus structure of a lyric poem.

Five (Fly Fishing Literature) stars!

I just read this again . . . A good piece of writing to contemplate on a cold and rainy spring day. The wind was so strong today there were whitecaps on the Hudson . . . Nice to know there are fish down there, somewhere!

Randy | 34 comments Ron,

Thanks. Living in NYC I feel I have to take advantages of all the fishing opportunities I have.

At first I was reluctant to fish from piers. It didn't seen very "fly-fishing-like" but quickly I got used to it, though it's better when the piers aren't crowded.

Randy --

Hello again. My wife and I could use an "on the pier" lesson or two. We are both Central Park pond people who have only fished the river with spinning gear attached to squid strips.

Randy | 34 comments Ron,

Striper season starts a little before Memorial Day.

We'll do it before then. I fished the Meer yesterday. A lot of anglers.
