Did any of you ever hear the story of Luthien and Beren? I found this very awesome;

My favorite part is the very last one. What do you guys think?

Oh, yeah, I love that story. There's an account of it in the Silmarillion. So sweet. So sad. It's probably my favorite love story.

Yes, it's so sweet. Someone should make a movie about Tolkien.

Good point! Did you know, C.S. Lewis once referred to Tolkien as the most married man he knew? He really loved his wife and kids. *Sighs* too bad he's dead- I would have loved to meet him.

I actually had a dream about him, on two different occasions. I asked him if the Ents ever found the Entwives, and he replied by showing me the entish seedpod he was about to plant. So apparently, they had. If only in the dream.

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

LOL With me, it's either coffee, hot tea, or milk. :D If I had a choice, it would be hot tea over everything. Hey, I've seen a recipe online for Athelas Tea; anybody interested???

Aragorn’s Athelas Tea
Also known as ‘Sam’s Kingsfoil Brew’

*since herb-lore of Middle-Earth is mostly confined to herbs native to the Shire, records of True Athelas are scarce. However, it seems by all accounts that Mint is the closest relative.*

Juice of 2 lemons
3-4 1/2 inch coins of fresh Ginger
1 clove of garlic (“You *must* trust Master..”)
3 sprigs of Mint (approx. 7-10 leaves)
2L. Filtered water, boiling
Unpasteurised Honey
Echinaccia extract, liquid

Place Ginger, Mint and Garlic(peeled, but not crushed!) in a cheesecloth and tie off. Add to boiling water and cook for 5-7 min. Turn off heat and add lemon juice. Remove spices and transfer to an insulated tea pot. Into each cup, add a tsp. of honey(or to taste), and echinaccia extract to the bottle’s instructions.
Rx: Serce to any Man, Hobbit, or Dwarf (Elves don’t get sick, remember?) suffering from congestion, sore throat, dry cough or Morgul blades.

(it's from http://lotrscrapbook.bookloaf.net/oth... courtesy of Linds :D. Lembas is also on there! :D )

I don't think I have any Echinaccia extract handy though.

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

message 37: by Cece (last edited Mar 21, 2010 10:53AM) (new)

According to the Herb-lore of Gondor, Echinacea (as it's actually spelled) is another name for the Purple Cone flower. Its extracted juices and various parts were traditionally used by native tribes to treat coughs and colds. It is believed by some to have immune system-stimulating benefits.

message 39: by Cece (new)

Cece ok sounds cool! thanks! how did u find that out???

message 40: by Ada, AKA Caladhiel of Eregion (new)

Ada (caladhieledhel-mellon) | 861 comments Mod
I'd like to say I had a book on the herb-lore of Middle Earth, but I don't. The almighty Google is to thank for the information. :)

message 41: by Cece (new)

Cece oh got it

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

So...I wonder what the equivalent for Echinacea is here on this...*sigh* non-ME earth is.

message 43: by Ada, AKA Caladhiel of Eregion (new)

Ada (caladhieledhel-mellon) | 861 comments Mod
No I'm serious- it really is purple cone flowers. I just threw the "according to the herb-lore of Gondor" bit in to make it sound more interesting.

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh...can you find purple cone flower extract @ Wal-Mart? ((not the other Wal-Mart, the *real* Wal-Mart, Lindsay. xD))

I checked online- you can get it in capsule form as a supplement, or as part of other blends, but I couldn't find it in pure liquid form. I'll check Target.

message 46: by Ada, AKA Caladhiel of Eregion (new)

Ada (caladhieledhel-mellon) | 861 comments Mod
Just checked- you can get it as capsules there too, but not as liquid.

message 47: by [deleted user] (new)

Ahhh...are the capsules like hard or just the ones that can melt in your mouth?

message 48: by Ada, AKA Caladhiel of Eregion (new)

Ada (caladhieledhel-mellon) | 861 comments Mod
Not sure. It didn't say.

message 49: by [deleted user] (new)

Bah! I would like to make it, but I'm afraid I cannot buy said item. (I forgot how to spell it and I'm too lazy to scroll up and copy it. :P)
