RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Today is James Ellroy's birthday. I love that guy's work, and I think he'll be one of this generation's writers who is venerated for decades to come. He's amazing.

I know Ellroy has been discussed on review threads, but, well, happy birthday, Mr. Ellroy. You f--king rock.

(Although I still haven't finished your latest novel, I must admit, I've read just about everything else you've written.)

Gus Sanchez (gussanchez) Sadly, I've never read Ellroy, but I think I would love his stuff. Any recommendations on which Ellroy work I should start with?

Matt | 819 comments I think you should jump right in and start with his political stuff - American Tabloid.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I loved L.A. Confidential. Tad has a point, though, in that American Tabloid is the first book in the Underworld series. I think you'd love that one, Gus.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I want to hang out with Sweeter. We could listen to Tom Waits and talk about Ellroy and Sally.
