miaomiao (ajeep) | 155 comments saya orang baru nak start thread baru boleh? kalau nak ikut rentak kelab Thriller oversea, terlalu laju discussion mereka, tak dapat keep up.

saya minat legal thriller dan psycho thriller. conspiracies pun layan. tujuan start topik ni untuk exchange opinions if boleh recommend any thriller books yang menarik.

saya paling suka thomas harris, especially the hannibal series. character hannibal tu macam almost real. demented psychopath. buku silence of the lambs is the only book i've read more than once, in fact sudah 3 kali saya baca. malangnya dia takde tulis buku baru. cuma ada 5 sahaja :(

p/s: kalau genre Thriller ni patut grouped under Mystery, saya minta maaf. nanti saya masukkan under Mystery. let me know

Izzati Masri | 71 comments kalau mcm the lovely bones tu kre thriller ke? basically, i just read but don't know how to classify the genre.. =p

Thriller boleh, drama pun boleh. Sesetengah buku memang camni...susah nak diklasifikasikan.

message 9: by Kataklicik (new)

Kataklicik | 714 comments I beg to differ.

The book focused more on the effect of Susie's death on the ones she left behind. And that, friends, is what made the book menarik. Perpektif penceritaan yang berlainan.

Okay, then, drama. I never read the book, myself. Alice Sebold.

message 11: by Izzati (new)

Izzati Masri | 71 comments ooo,Alice Sebold tu ade bad experience ke???
baru tahu...

but it was a good try, even if all the stories cerita tentang benda yang sama, she knows how to manipulate the stories,at least.

message 12: by Fairul (last edited Jun 22, 2010 10:26PM) (new)

Fairul (abdfairul) 'Supernatural horror' ngn 'thriller' tu sama x?

ker kena buat satu lagi thread psl horror? :p

message 13: by Khairul Hezry, I hate people but not you. You, I like. (new)

Khairul Hezry | 2357 comments Mod
Genre labels overlap each other. I separate supernatural horror (ghost, demons, toyol) from thriller (the bad guys are all too human) in my personal Goodreads bookshelf.

Make a new thread for horror if you want. We already have a 'Vampire' thread but that is too specific, isn't it?

Kalau Siri Buku Bercakap Dgn Jin tu nak bubuh dlm genre mana? karya klasik oleh tamar jalis. dulu kalau baca mmg naik bulu roma, lebih thrill baca waktu malam

Kalau dah cerita jin tu letak jelah dalam kategori "horror"

hahaha... tepat sekali! itupun sekiranya cerita tu menakutkan...

tapi kalau ceritanya lawak biarpun ia berkaitan dengan jin; bubuh saja di bawah genre comedy... kui, kui, kui

Ariffah 9 (Ariffah9) | 26 comments Haah, Ramlee Awang Murshid, noovel dia mmg thriller. best!

message 20: by Clerk Can (new)

message 21: by miaomiao (new)

miaomiao (ajeep) | 155 comments kalau baca kurang dari 5 buku james patterson, boleh diterima lagi. tetapi, cara penceritaan tiap2 buku dia hampis sama sahaja. jadi bosan. lagi satu, dia suka repeat details yang tak penting. contoh, dalam siri alex cross, tiap2 satu mesti akan cerita pasal kucing dia yg sambut dia bila balik kerja dan penat. lepas tu dia dan nenek dia akan argue tentang sesuatu perkara, dan nenek dia akan menang argument tu, pasal nenek dia tak pernah kalah.

saya tak berlawak, tapi ni memang betul. bosan.

thriller yg setakat ni saya rasa memang berbaloi dan terbaik, hasil tulisan thomas harris.

message 22: by Don (new)

Don Ariff (arkenseal) | 154 comments I would recommend that you should read Are You Afraid of the Dark? by Sidney Sheldon If you like the psychological one I'd recommend The Interpretation of Murder by Jed Rubenfeld you'll not regret it!

message 23: by miaomiao (new)

miaomiao (ajeep) | 155 comments saya memang dulu baca banyak buku sidney sheldon. hampir lengkap koleksi sidney sheldon. saya berhenti bila saya rasa bosan dengan cara penulisan dia. jalan cerita semua hampir sama. perempuan miskin atau nasib tidak baik, menghadapi masalah hidup, kemudian berjumpa dengan kekasih hati, bangkit semula dari kepayahan hidup, berjaya, happy ending. dan watak cerita mesti seorang yg sangat cantik.

the only sheldon's book i think is different from the others, is The Naked Face

message 24: by Don (new)

Don Ariff (arkenseal) | 154 comments Hmmm...I've read his books and I agree that he does use the same plots again and again. But still I like how the story goes though.

Any books that you can recommend Miaomiao? XD

message 25: by miaomiao (new)

miaomiao (ajeep) | 155 comments all books by thomas harris!

michael crichton's if you want variety.
robin cook's if you're into medical thriller
john grisham's, legal thriller

Splendid! I've read Thomas Harris' he should make more books...I've never tried Robin Cook what's the best one you've read?

message 27: by miaomiao (new)

miaomiao (ajeep) | 155 comments YES, he should write more books! maybe we should write him a mail.

maybe you can try cook's contagion.
oh another one, michael connelly. try blood work.

one more thing, stay away from women authors. they write lousy thrillers. don't believe me? read patricia cornwell, faye kellerman

message 28: by Don (new)

Don Ariff (arkenseal) | 154 comments Believe me I know~ I tried her once and I never looked at the name ever again! Lol...what other books do you read or do you read just thriller?

message 29: by miaomiao (last edited Mar 06, 2011 12:11AM) (new)

miaomiao (ajeep) | 155 comments i read everything by john grisham, michael crichton, thomas harris.

and i read general fiction, kalau genre movie they call it drama. i love wally lamb. and books with mentally unstable character or manic depression. like the bell jar by sylvia plath.

basically, you can say i only read thriller and drama.

message 30: by Don (new)

Don Ariff (arkenseal) | 154 comments I see that you like psychological thrillers too eh? What about these mentally unstable books? Sounds awesome since I loooove psych stuff :)

message 33: by miaomiao (new)

miaomiao (ajeep) | 155 comments pernah baca buku thomas harris? dah baca semua? if not, baca. the best way to start reading psychopath thrillers. then i jamin, itu akan jadi your benchmark.

message 34: by Lolliepop (new)

Lolliepop (snhz) | 246 comments haha..great!tomas harris..but sure he had written a lot of books!!give me one great-you-will-not-regret-telling-me title, will ya? cause i dont have my own income~heeee

message 38: by Hilmi (new)

Antara novel-novel 'best-selling' beliau adalah seperti The Hunt for Red October,Red Storm Rising,The Cardinal of the Kremlin,Without Remorse dan lain-lain novel lagi.

Tom Clancy's books is indeed awesome...but its more towards the technical side won't you agree? I'm a huge fan of his games...so I wouldn't mind reading :)

message 40: by Hilmi (new)

Hilmi Isa (hilmiisa) | 63 comments Yes. I agree with you Don. His novels are very technical. But,I guess that's what make his novels very interesting (at least in my opinion). :)

message 41: by Don (new)

Don Ariff (arkenseal) | 154 comments Oh yeah man!! XD I suppose you played Rainbow Six or read the book?

message 42: by Hilmi (new)

Hilmi Isa (hilmiisa) | 63 comments Haha...It's quite a shame to admit. Actually,I never played any Tom Clancy's games before. Haha...To be honest,I first knew Tom Clancy through films such as Clear and Present Danger and The Sum of All Fears. After I know that those movies are based on his novels,I started to search his novels. And until now,I still like his works.

message 43: by Don (new)

Don Ariff (arkenseal) | 154 comments I see... sadly I haven't watch any of those films lol. I wish there would be a movie for Rainbow Six...I like this character hihihi...

What other books have you read? Besides Clancy's of course

message 44: by Hilmi (new)

Hilmi Isa (hilmiisa) | 63 comments Rainbow Six? Yes. It would be awesome if we have a film version of it. Haha...:)
Em...Not much really. Due to financial constraints,I can't buy all my favourite thriller authors' books. However, right now,I'm reading lots of Ramlee Awang Murshid books. I like his works. I also like Chris Ryan's novels. But,again due to financial problem and problem to find the his novels,I just managed to have only 2 of his novels. Lands of Fire and Greed. Just like Tom Clancy,he's also a military-thriller novelist. But,I can say here his style of writing is more military-oriented and quite straightforward. This maybe happen because he's an ex-SAS guy.

message 45: by Don (new)

Don Ariff (arkenseal) | 154 comments An ex-SAS writing a book? Now that's something we don't get to see often! I saw Chris Ryan's novels in Popular today...but then I have exams and assignments coming my way and so I have to delay buying more books...hihihi need to study first :)

message 46: by Hilmi (new)

Hilmi Isa (hilmiisa) | 63 comments Haha...I see. But,that's right. Study first is good. Anyway, good luck in your exams and assignments,Don. :)
One more ex-SAS soldier who wrote novel is Andy McNabb. To be honest,I never read his novels. I just only read his 2 true story memoirs,Bravo Two Zero and Seven Troop. So,I can't comment his novels. But,I think if someone loves military-thriller,maybe his works are not disappointing to read upon.

message 47: by Don (new)

Don Ariff (arkenseal) | 154 comments Thanks bro...well yeah I suppose true story gives more punch as they would fill in their true emotions as well. I'll take note of these books when I have the free time to buy XD

message 48: by miaomiao (new)

message 49: by Hilmi (new)

Hilmi Isa (hilmiisa) | 63 comments No problem Don. It's nice to share some info with you. Yes. You're right. Because of their true experience, they able to pour in their emotions and feelings on their novels. That's make their works looks real and exciting to read.
I'm also trying to widen up my genre interests. If possible,I don't want to just stuck-up with military-thriller genre only. Haha...So,if you have any suggestions of which novels I should read, just let me know,Don. :)

message 50: by Hilmi (new)
