OK, I admit I've been bad about the exchange stuff. This new job is sucking away my brain. However, I'm happy to do a springtime exchange...if anyone cares anymore. ?? Oui? Si? or non?

message 2: by Phillip (new)

Phillip i'm up for it! amy mixes are irresistible. and i've picked up a lot of new stuff lately i would be happy to share.

message 3: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (lifeasabooknerd) I'd like to be in this also. :)

message 4: by Phillip (new)

Phillip the more the merrier!

vj, can we count on your for one of your sultry blues-infused mixes?

message 5: by Phillip (new)

Phillip barry adamson...hmm. i'll have to go back and look. it may have fallen into a pile and got overlooked. i've had a hard time managing my CD collection lately. i have stacks and stacks of stuff that no longer fit on the shelves ... i seriously need to get more shelves so i can keep this stuff organized.

i'm sorry if i overlooked it. i'll go back and find it and give it a listen this weekend.

message 6: by Phillip (last edited Mar 08, 2010 09:42PM) (new)

Phillip is it official? are we doing this?

rob, is the barry adamson included in the last mix you sent, or was it a cd with just adamson on it?

message 7: by Amy (new)

oh yay - I thought folks were ignoring my post!

And I'm planning on getting some new stuff in the coming week, possibly the new Gorillaz, maybe XX - ??

Cool!

message 8: by Phillip (new)

Phillip nice.

so should we just send stuff out when we have the mixes ready?

message 9: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (lifeasabooknerd) Yeah, please, let me know how it works, where to send whatnot. My info is:
Michelle Webb
591 N. 9th St.
Blythe, CA 92225

message 10: by Phillip (last edited Mar 10, 2010 09:12AM) (new)

Phillip amy can send you all of the addresses of the people who take part (or i can...i'll have to dig them up). usually amy, vj, rob and i participate, and we can add you to the list. you send your mix to each of us and we all send a mix to you.

we just need to make sure we know who's on board this month.

vj?
rob?

message 11: by Amy (new)

Amy | 339 comments Mod
Ouch, Phillip - I think those addresses might be at my mom's - have to check!

I'm on board!

message 12: by Phillip (new)

Phillip i found:
yours
rob's
and vj's...

so don't worry - i have them and will send them to michelle - but we need to hear from vj and rob to see if they're on board.

message 13: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (lifeasabooknerd) So just a random cd, send whatever we feel like, right? No themes??

message 14: by Amy (new)

Amy | 339 comments Mod
Well, as I've said many times, I'm a free spirit and may or may not confine myself to a theme. But others like the idea, and I suggested "Strange Love" as a theme a while back. At this point, "Spring Fever" also suggests itself.

Thoughts?

message 15: by Phillip (new)

Phillip it's been a while since we did this - maybe just say open season....and use april for spring fever...?

message 16: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (lifeasabooknerd) Sounds good...I'm off to starrt browsing my collection.

message 17: by Phillip (new)

Phillip ohhh, kidz - i went to amoeba today and spent wayyyyyy too much money.

the good news is that some of this stuff is going to end up on your mix. i'll post soon.

message 25: by Phillip (new)

Phillip she's just coming out of her slumber apparently...

(lucky woman)

message 26: by Phillip (new)

Phillip i know it gets colder up there than it does here. i've been up there and felt the wind - you can feel that it's coming off the ice caps - there's a definite icy-ness to it. brrrrrrrrrrrr. thanks for mentioning it. now i have the chills...

;B

message 27: by Phillip (new)

Phillip well, it actually just warmed up around here. we had some hale last week and this week girls are wearing sun dresses. typical bay area.

message 28: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (lifeasabooknerd) It's getting out here already. Well, not HOT like it will be, but definitely warm enough to lay out or wear shorts and flipflops. :)

message 29: by Phillip (last edited Mar 17, 2010 10:06AM) (new)

Phillip dang

message 30: by Phillip (last edited Mar 17, 2010 10:53PM) (new)

Phillip ok, i have made copies of my march playlist for amy, vj, and michelle. if you want one and your name is not on this list, speak up! i will get these in the mail this week. the packages are all addressed, i just have to plan when i'm going to fall by the post office.

Phillip Rob wrote: "I'm still not in the other house. I should be there working right now instead of screwing around on Goodreads, actually. But...when I'm in, the addy will be:

thanks, rob!
now get back to work!!!!

message 35: by Amy (new)

Amy | 339 comments Mod
I haven't forgotten about this - I swear! My playlist should be perfected by the end of the week.

Rob, I've been holding off on getting that new Gorillaz album - I just don't know. I certainly did like Demon Days, though. IMO, The Good, The Bad and The Queen is eh. I actually traded in that album recently...

My recent winners (and I've already mentioned them repeatedly, oh well) - Beach House-Teen Dream, Charlotte Gainsbourg - IRM, The XX - XX, Massive Attack - Heligo Land.

Not sure what to get in the near future...

message 36: by Phillip (new)

Phillip i highly recommend phillip greenlief solo - lines combined.
:p

(just kidding)

message 37: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (lifeasabooknerd) I haven't heard it, but I'd recommend it too, and even more so if I HAD some of it to listen to. :)

Forgive me all. I am hating iTunes more and more. I attempted to burn my mixes and it keeps popping out with an error. I don't know if its because I have a DVR+-RW drive and I'm burning onto CD-Rs?? Should they be CD-RWs?? If I burn onto those, most CD players won't play them. I am getting very frustrated!!! If anyone knows anything about this, I'd love to hear it. Ordered some CD-RWs, since nowhere in this podunk town had them and will attempt that, so at least they can be played in your computers. I don't know any other options.

message 38: by Phillip (last edited Mar 24, 2010 12:40AM) (new)

Phillip not sure which version of iTunes you are using, but here are some things you should check out:

1) make sure you are burning an "audio cd" when you go to burn the disc.
2) make sure you are converting tracks to AIFF (if you received them as MP3s).
3) to do that, you have to go to advanced, and look under sharing. there should be options: AIFF, MP3, etc. AIFF is the most common sharing format, just about any CD player will play it.
4) sometimes turning down the burning speed helps - i use no more than 4x
5) you have to convert your tracks to AIFF BEFORE you burn, you can't do it after

let me know if that helps. if not, fire away with specific questions, i'll try to answer them.

you can send stuff to me that has been burned to DVDr, but not all machines will play them. it helps to burn onto CDRs, lots of CD players (car players in particular) won't play DVRs. the error message you're getting is probably because you are inserting a DVR, not a CD. i don't think iTunes would recognize that, but i'm not sure.

wow, Phillip, good info!

Personally, I found that getting a CD cleaner helped, for what it's worth -

Amy | 339 comments Mod
OK - my CD's will go out probably the beginning of next week. But here is my playlist, to tempt y'all...

This Is Not For You
1) Black Coffee - Tricky featuring Martina Topley-Bird
2) Heaven - Bitter Sweet
3) Infinity - The XX
4) My Body is a Cage - The Arcade Fire
5) In the End - Charlotte Gainsbourg
6) Tempo De Amor - Smoky and Miho
7) Wasted Early Sunday Morning - The Sneaker Pimps
8) Biscuit - Portishead
9) Rabbit in Your Headlights - UNKLE
10) Lover of Mine - Beach House
11) Go Slow - Julie London
12) Almost Sleeping - Laika
13) One PM Again - Yo La Tengo
14) Equus - Blonde Redhead
15) Paradise Circus - Massive Attack

I tried to throw in a decent amount of new tunage on this one. Hopefully it all works. I took the title from the seemingly endless book I'm reading, House of Leaves -

message 41: by Phillip (new)

message 43: by Phillip (last edited Apr 06, 2010 11:51PM) (new)

Phillip hey guys!

i was out of town for a couple of days and when i got back i received my packages from vicky jean and amy. thanks!

i have your stuff waiting to go out, but i wanted to go pick up this special little treat that i wanted to include in the packages and that has caused the hold up.

i hope to get it all together tomorrow. forgive me, i think i told you but i've been working on a play that opens on friday night. this is the final push to get it all together - i wrote about 80 minutes of music for the play and i will be performing it (on organ of all things) all throughout the run. it's been a blast and i'm really looking forward to playing it for some audiences this week.

cheers!

message 44: by Amy (new)

Amy | 339 comments Mod
Congrats, Phillip - that sounds like a very cool project. If you guys record the music for the play, I'd be interested in hearing it!

message 45: by Phillip (new)

Phillip thanks all of you! tonight we had our preview performance for the press. we had a good turnout and it went really well. so nice to perform it for an audience and hear all the laughter coming back at us (it's a comedy called the history of human stupidity).

can't wait for tomorrow (opening night). the author of the play is coming out from chicago, since it is a world premiere of his work. friday and saturday are both sold out - should be a fun time. it runs for three weekends (come on out!)

message 46: by Amy (new)

Amy | 339 comments Mod
Wow, it sounds awesome. I'm glad you're getting good audience feedback.

message 47: by Phillip (new)

Phillip there is a website that has a lot of pics that were taken by a great photographer, but i don't know if i can copy and paste...i'll try. it's an all-women cast and they look great in the shots.

message 48: by WitchyFingers (new)

WitchyFingers Heyyyy. Hi guys! Are we still doing swaps? I should FINALLY be able to participate - I have a new laptop!

message 49: by Amy (last edited Apr 11, 2010 12:07PM) (new)

Amy | 339 comments Mod
Awesome, Witchypoo. I'll see if I can dig up your address to send the latest playlist (or you can email it to me).

VJ, enjoyed your latest mix today.

message 50: by WitchyFingers (new)

WitchyFingers I'm more concerned about being able to get CDs out to all of YOU, since I owe you one! Is there a deadline? Any specific theme? I'll check my Goodreads inbox, but I think I have everyone's addresses. Well, Rob's, Amy's, VJ's, and PG's.
