Wow, V. You're on a roll. What's Straw on the Wind about?

message 6: by Verity (last edited Apr 11, 2010 08:54PM) (new)

Verity | 567 comments LOL... yep, still having HP fever, am reading Kim Lawrence = Claiming his preggers wife.

Straw on the wind :
About an American gal whose fiance just expired from heart problems, is a kids books illustrator & goes to London, her balloon crashes on the property of a paralyzed gazillionaire. Her rented car got burglarized & her personal belongings got stolen, so hero insists she should stay. He hires her to paint his alcove. They fall in luv, get engaged (much to the dismay of hero's cousin who got the hotz for him). H/H break up thanx to a misunderstanding involving hero's former fiancee (who dumped him after the accident). I luv EP & plan to hunt down her backlist. Her H/H are v. likeable & there's a sweetness to her story, even tho' her heroes are strong & dominant.

Sounds great. Thanks. I love when I get HP fever. Good times!

message 8: by Verity (new)

Verity | 567 comments Can't remember the last time I read 6 HPs consecutively in 3 days ! =)~

Do U want me to send U the books that I just read ? The JB books are for Seton, but I can send U Sarah Holland, Elizabeth Power & Charlotte Lamb = The heron quest. Dark dominion is a keeper & Secret obsession is an e-book, so can't send 'em.

I also can send U 'Delicious' if U want it but it has infidelity. Well not really, 'cuz H/H haven't seen each other for years & heroine hooks up w/ hero's bro.

If you don't want the CL and EP, sure. I have the Sarah Holland and Dark Dominion. I don't think Delicious is my cup of tea, but thanks for the offer.

Way to go, V.

message 12: by Lynsey A (new)

Lynsey A (lovesdarcy) | 170 comments Verity, you are awesome! I'm jealous of how many HP's you've read just this year! Sheesh! What # are you on now? I don't know I've read even that many books in 2010! LOL

For the first time in a long time I've had a serious boyfriend so my number of books read in a year seems to be cut in half...although, I'm not complaining. He's worth it! :-)

message 13: by Verity (new)

Verity | 567 comments Hahahaa... Lynsey, if your BF is a keeper then it's no wonder U spend more time w/ him. I have a resolution (ambitious, I know !) to read 2 HPs / day, or @ least 1 / day. Even if it's a re-read to jog my memory. Not that it's a competition, I've just been infected w/ a dangerous HP bug lately, so I've been neglecting my other non-HP TBR. These HPs are too addictive, there's no cure that I know of =^D

message 14: by Lynsey A (new)

Lynsey A (lovesdarcy) | 170 comments Oh, he's definitely a keeper. He actually doesn't mind if I ignore him for a day to read a really good book. I won't be letting him go.

Good for you! I too have been bitten by the HP bug...it's just been awhile. Perhaps it will sneak up on me soon and take a big bite out of me. LOL

You're so right. HPs are utterly, sinfully addictive.

Way to go, V. You're reading a lot of HPs!

message 21: by Verity (new)

Verity | 567 comments 'Cuz they're all quickies & I'm not a patient reader. I don't like not finishing a book, so HPs are purrfect 4 me 'cuz I can finish a couple in 1 sitting. Not to mention I still have dozens of books not catalogued yet on my GR shelves, no time @ all =^2

message 22: by Danielle The Book Huntress (Winter Frost Queen) , Harlequin Presents are my crack! (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (Winter Frost Queen) (gatadelafuente) | 2280 comments Mod
I love that the HPs are quick reads. Great way to wind down! I have soo many books!!! Yet I buy more!

message 23: by willaful (new)

willaful | 344 comments Yeah, I read them when I'm stressed and need something fun but not too demanding. I used to love to read them in the hot tub, the best way to unwind. :-)

message 24: by Verity (new)

Verity | 567 comments I've never tried reading in the hot tub, I might try that LOL... I usually read on the bed w/ the tv on (Law & Order : SVU, Monk, E! reality shows). No doubt 'bout it, HPs are the best stress relievers 8^2

Another reason I'm kinda in a panic mode 'bout my humongous TBR is 'cuz my cwazy family's started talking 'bout moving again. Yeah I'm so freaked out by the thought of moving 'cuz everytime we did, it's such a nitemare & took a physical / emotional toll on me & my books. I gotta start reading faster B4 we move 'cuz they always get pissy w/ me for having gazillions boxes of books. We already moved like 5 X. I can't even sleep if I have to figure out where to put my books, space is so limited & yet my incurable addiction is like the energizer bunny, keeps going !

message 25: by Slaveforomance (new)

Slaveforomance | 68 comments My mom forced me to donate all my books because it used to clutter up my room, family bookshelves and garage. I just wish they would put some of the older HPs in ebook form so now it wouldn't take up so much space in my house. Although, I wouldn't bring my ereader/computer into a tub. Electrocution, anyone?

I feel for you, Verity.

Danielle The Book Huntress (Winter Frost Queen) (gatadelafuente) | 2280 comments Mod
I hope you don't have to move, V. That breaks my heart hearing about someone having to get rid of their beloved books.

I'm so grateful that my mother and sister don't give me a hard time about my books. They're so nice about it, even letting me put bookcases in the hallway.

message 27: by MelissaB (new)

MelissaB (melissaann) | 12 comments V,

I understand! I just had to move all my books and it stressed me out. The hubby had no clue I had so many but there was no hiding them when I had to pack and move them. Plus it freaked me out to have them out of my sight and in random places. I still don't love how I have the books set up now, most are in plastic bins with lids but then it's harder to browse when I am looking for a new read. So I started putting "books I am thinking about reading soon" in small baskets in my closet to choose from which has worked pretty good.

Hopefully you don't have to move!

message 28: by Verity (new)

Verity | 567 comments Thanx for the sympathy votes & sharing stories, gals =^D.

Slaveforomance, hahaha.. If I bring my laptop to read e-books in the hot tub, I'll come out w/ frizzy hair from the electrocution.

D, wanna trade your sweet family w/ mine ?

MelissaB, U're more organized than I am. If I crack the jackpot someday, the 1st thing to have is a book haven w/ built-in shelves from floor to ceiling ;^)~

Yeah, moving is such a pain in the rear & I'm so traumatized hahaha... Everytime we moved, my deadbeat loser bro always said I gotta find a rent-a-space somewhere to store my books but if I always resisted, 'cuz I don't wanna have to drive all the way there when I wanna read a particular book. I already donated 'bout 1000 books the last time I moved to current residence. I ended up re-reading the books as I was picking & choosing which ones to let go, it's like Sophie's choice LOL... Not as eazy as eenie meenie miny moe. They're already looking @ apartment / houses prices & said we might have to move to another county, across the bridge. Aiyiyiyiii... I can feel the nitemare cummin, just thinking of the long ass commute which'll cut down on my non-existent reading time. My life will revolve around work + long commute + sleep = zero reading time --->>> lifelong depression (domino effect) =^2

Maybe I'll just stay put & let 'em all move w/out me. I like it here 'cuz the commute's only 12 minutes drive to workplace, 10 min on weekend (less traffic). My boss keeps telling me to be positive & stay positive, it's like my new mantra that I chant daily. Whenever I'm stressed out, I just repeat it to self.

message 29: by Lynsey A (new)

Lynsey A (lovesdarcy) | 170 comments V - hope things work out for you! Moving, for a book lover, is definitely a hard thing to do! Just like MelissaB I have boxes and boxes of books whenever I move. Which, luckily hasn't been too often. However, I know what a pain it is for you.

I understand the short commute. I have that to work every day and I love it! I would hate to give it up for any reason!

message 30: by Danielle The Book Huntress (Winter Frost Queen) , Harlequin Presents are my crack! (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (Winter Frost Queen) (gatadelafuente) | 2280 comments Mod
Oh, V. I hope it works out. My family is all about drama (and not the fun HP kind), so you're probably better off with yours. :)

message 31: by Verity (new)

Verity | 567 comments Thanx, gals =P. Yeah I'm crossing my toes & fingers, hopefully it won't happen. Moving is so dwamatic ! My bro & sis stopped talking for like a year 'cuz of the moving. When peeps get lack of sleep & overstressed, they say a lotta hurtful things in the heat of the moment & then regret it later on. That's why I avoid friction @ all costs & reading is like self-therapy.

message 32: by MelissaB (new)

MelissaB (melissaann) | 12 comments Verity - reading has been my therapy for years! I believe it saved me from the hundreds of dollars of therapy I would have needed otherwise from a less than stellar childhood. I "escaped" from all the drama within my lovely books.

Danielle The Book Huntress (Winter Frost Queen) (gatadelafuente) | 2280 comments Mod
Same here! During the worst times in my life, I retreated into books.
When my dad passed away, that next couple of weeks, I read like 16 books.

message 34: by willaful (new)

willaful | 344 comments Our realtor tried to talk us into a "starter house" but we insisted on one we wouldn't need to move out of within a few years. Coming on ten years and I'm still traumatized from that last move! (And having that extra room waiting brought us luck, too, because I finally got pregnant!)

message 35: by Verity (new)

Verity | 567 comments Melissa, no wonder U're our most reliable 'book pimp' =)~

D, that's a lotta books ! but I feel ya, there's no better remedy for grief than a reading marathon like there's no tomorrow.

Willaful, yay 4 U ! Finding a house that clicks w/ U is tough. I have a luv-hate thing 'bout house-hunting. On 1 hand, it's verra intriguing to peep into other peeps' listed houses but it's also v. time-consuming & a waste of time, when financially strapped. The townhouse that we bought & lost (due to my bro's gazillion debts & crashing stocks) was a good price & we used the same realtor to sell it. The 1 we're renting now has a leaky roof (holey ceilings in 3 bedrooms as a result) 'cuz the landlord has no money to fix it & it's been ruining our hardwood floors everytime it rains. It's really kinda sad & pathetic. I'm so terrified of getting my books rained on. I'm really over-protective of my books, just goes to show my attachment to books. If my collection of Anne Stuart, Mary Balogh, Daphne Clair / Laurey Bright, Sara Craven, Anne Mather, Jo Beverley, Madeline Hunter etc (not to mention my porn stash hahahaa...) got permanently damaged by the rain, I'd go bonkers & literally sue the landlord's @$$ (just wishful thinking, 'cuz he's my bro's dad-in-law) =P

Oh, V. I don't blame you. I get freaked out when I think of fires and stuff like that--worried about my book collection, and getting it out of the house. I know my family and cats would be first priority.
