Myra | 406 comments The new cast was announced last night during the Bachelor finale festivities, and it looks like an interesting season coming up. My favorite going into the competition is Evan Lysacek. He was so beautiful to watch in the Olympic finals for Men's figure skating that I can't help having high expectations for his dancing ability. No news yet on who's taking over the Samantha Harris spot as Tom Bergeron's sidekick. Lots of speculation, though. And I'm going to miss some of the professionals who won't be on this season, like Kym Johnson and Lacey Schwimmer. But it'll be great to see Ashley DelGrosso back, even though her partner is Buzz Aldrin (Age 80...can you believe it?). What does everyone think about the new season? I'll be watching when it starts on March 22!

Courtney (courtneyclift) | 924 comments Melissa Rycroft is going to replace Samantha Harris and I couldn't be happier...she drove me nuts. I'm very bummed Lacey won't be back but I'm glad Jake the Bachelor is partnered with Chelsea Hightower. I love the So You Think You Can Dance gals.

message 3: by Myra (new)

Myra | 406 comments I like Melissa Rycroft as well. Samantha Harris really annoyed me. Just about any of the people mentioned as replacement a possible replacement would have been better.

Lori (barfield) | 730 comments If they ever get any STARS on that show it might be worth watching.

message 5: by Courtney (new)

Courtney (courtneyclift) | 924 comments I can do without Buzz Aldrin or Tom Delay, but so far even some of the least known "stars" have the personality or natural ability to make it worthwhile watch it is. I watch it as much for the "pro's" as for the stars anyway.

message 6: by Lori (new)

Lori (barfield) | 730 comments Every time I stop and watch it, it just doesn't do it for me. I seen Donny Osmond in some bedazzled getup and I couldn't help but laugh. Maybe I just got unlucky on the nights I checked it out. I do like Pam Anderson, maybe it will be better this year!

message 7: by Courtney (new)

Courtney (courtneyclift) | 924 comments Give it a shot!

message 8: by Myra (new)

Myra | 406 comments Brooke Burke will replace Samantha Harris on the show.

I really enjoy the show and have watched every season since the very first. A-list stars will never be on that or any other show that requires the time commitment that DWTS requires, but I usually recognize most of the participants. It's fun to watch them improve over the weeks and actually become dancers. And I've really grown to enjoy some of the professional partners as much as the stars.

Courtney (courtneyclift) | 924 comments Dancing with the Stars
The Bachelor‘s Vienna to Make Dancing Debut
May 21, 2010

She got engaged to pilot Jake Pavelka on the season finale of The Bachelor in March — but since then Vienna Girardi hasn’t had much time to celebrate since her fiancé immediately immersed himself in rehearsals for Dancing with the Stars.

But now Girardi is getting her chance to dance with her leading man — on the season 10 finale of DWTS Tuesday, pro dancer Chelsie Hightower tells PEOPLE.

“We had our second rehearsal today and surprisingly, Vienna is not nervous at all,” says Hightower, who danced for six weeks with Pavelka during the season. “If it were me, I think I’d be vomiting all night and not sleeping. But Vienna is doing really well and she’s so excited.”

Hightower says that like all of the other season 10 couples, she and Pavelka will take to the floor together and perform one last dance -– theirs is the Viennese Waltz — at the finale.

Girardi and pro Dmitry Chaplin will join them on the floor, “and then Dmitry and I will hand Jake and Vienna over to each other,” Hightower says. “It’s a slow, romantic waltz -– a simulation of a pre-wedding dance.”

While the Pavelka and Girardi have not made any formal wedding arrangements, they do plan to set up residence in Los Angeles when Dancing ends. Hightower says the two make a great pair.

“She’s a great girl,” Hightower says. “They are very happy together.” — Monica Rizzo

Myra | 406 comments New Season. New Stars. What do you think about this year's cast?

message 12: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 4961 comments I don't know who's in this season's cast. I used to love this show but I'm getting sick of it. I'm not sure I'm going to watch it this season. Ever since the Mario-Emmett bullshit, I've hated this show more and more each season and it's become a chore to watch. What used to be exciting has become mundane. Maybe I'll catch it later in the season so I don't have to suffer through the poor dancers.

message 13: by Myra (new)

Myra | 406 comments Here's the link to the stars, if you can call them that.

http://abc.go.com/shows/dancing-with-...

I'm interested in seeing Margaret Cho, Rick Fox, and Jenifer Grey, but I have no desire to watch Bristol Palin or David Hasselhoff.

message 14: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 4961 comments That's been part of the problem for me, 'the stars' are not stars to me. Either wannabes or has-beens.
But the big turn off for me is, it's a popularity contest, not a dance competition.

message 15: by Monika (new)

Monika (marriedmurder) | 45 comments has anyone else heard about the Wisconsin man that shot his tv bc of Bristol Palin on DWTS?

"A rural Wisconsin man apparently enraged by Bristol Palin's "Dancing with the Stars" routine blasted his television with a shotgun, leading to an all-night standoff with a SWAT team, investigators said."

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101118/a...

i threw a remote at my tv once...when dylan mckay's fiance antonia was killed by her own father... (beverly hills 90210--the original!) and if i had a shotgun i'd probably would have used it at that time lol (KIDDING!!!!)

message 16: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 4961 comments No! That's crazy. Was her dance routine that bad?

I've dropped Dancing with the Stars this year, as it's not a dance competition but rather a popularity contest.

I scream at my TV. Often. LOL

message 17: by Myra (new)

Myra | 406 comments All her dances are "that bad," although she has improved some over the season. The finals is going to be a farce.

message 18: by Jackie (last edited Nov 18, 2010 02:40PM) (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 4961 comments That is the exact reason I dropped the show. If it's not all about the dance, then I want no part of it.
I see there's to be a new show, Skating with the Stars. The only enticement for me to watch it is if I get to see them fall on their asses. LOL In all seriousness, I probably won't bother because I'm sure it'll be more of the same as with Dancing.

message 19: by Angie (new)

Angie I like this show... but I always have two other things taping so I miss it!!

message 20: by Holli (new)

Holli Did you catch the new lineup for this season last night? If not here it is.....

Kirstie Alley
Ralph Macchio
Wendy Williams
Sugar Ray Leonard
Hines Ward of the Pittsburgh Steelers
Chelsea Kane
Kendra Wilkinson
wrestler Chris Jericho
rapper Romeo
"Loveline" host Mike Catherwood.

Laurie (barksbooks) (barklesswagmore) | 29 comments Hmmm,

I only know:

Kirstie Alley
Ralph Macchio
Sugar Ray Leonard
wrestler Chris Jericho

I was bored to tears last season but I'm going to watch this one at least until Ralph Macchio gets voted out. Have any of you seen his vid "Wax On, F*cK Off" on YouTube where he pokes fun at himself? It's hilarious.

message 22: by Holli (new)

Holli That's funny!!!! I'll have to check that out.....

Wendy Williams is a talk show host, Chelsea Kane I want to say is media isn't she? Not sure about that. Kendra Wilkinson was a Playboy bunny....

message 23: by Courtney (new)

Courtney (courtneyclift) | 924 comments Kendra was Hugh Hefner's girlfriend in The Girls Next Door and then left to marry football player Hank Bassett and have a baby. They now have a show on E! called Kendra and it's about their family. She's dumb as dirt, but a sweetheart. Very athletic before she got a little baby weight on that she can't seem to shake off.Chelsea Kane I think is a Disney kid. xo

message 24: by Holli (new)

Holli Disney kid.... THAT'S right....

Laurie (barksbooks) (barklesswagmore) | 29 comments Now I recognize the name. She's on that "Jonas Bros" show that my tween makes me watch. Cringe-worthy, that show.

message 26: by Eileen (new)

Eileen Not to thrilled with the cast of Dancing this year. I will still watch because I love the show! My secret fantasy is to be a contestant on the show. I said it out loud....LOL

message 27: by Heather (new)

Heather (creaturefromthesea) | 87 comments I am terribly excited to see just how terrible the celebrities are this season. Sometimes when they get the reality show stars, the seasons are entertaining not because you remember who they are, but that they screw up so much.

message 28: by Myra (new)

Myra | 406 comments I watch the performances I want to see on ABC.com the day after. The only ones I care anything about this year are the two leaders: Ralph Macchio and Kirstie Alley. I figured that Kirstie and Maks would kill one another before it was over, but they seem to be getting along.

message 29: by Heather (new)

Heather (creaturefromthesea) | 87 comments Funny, I thought the same thing about it. They both are crazy control freaks, from what I've seen. I was amazed at how well both Ralph and Kirstie did. It just goes to show that age has nothing to do with true talent.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1012 comments Well, I see Bristol Palin is back for their "All-Stars" season.

On the up side, so are some very good dancers.

ETA: Cast is

Apolo Anton Ohno
Shawn Johnson
Drew Lachey
Emmitt Smith
Helio Castroneves
Kelly "costume malfunction" Monaco
Pamela Anderson
Kirstie Alley
Gilles Marini
Joey Fatone
Bristol Palin
Melissa Rycroft

Plus either Carson Kressley, Kyle Massey, or Sabrina Bryan (voters' choice).

message 31: by Myra (new)

Myra | 406 comments Like all the men; hate to see Bristol back, but certainly better than Kate Goslin.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1012 comments I found Kate G. amusingly horrible; Bristol I just wanted to get off my screen.

message 33: by Jackie (last edited Oct 02, 2012 07:17PM) (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 4961 comments Against my better judgement, I'm watching this season...and already I'm getting pissed off. Bristol and Kirstie are horrible dancers for any season, they don't even belong on an All Star Season. They were 'safe' and Kelly was in 'jeopardy'? In what universe are those two better dancers than Kelly? Now I remember why I quit watching this show.
I'll probably kick in my TV if I keep watching this sorry excuse for a popularity contest.

message 34: by Myra (new)

Myra | 406 comments I've been watching on the internet the day after, but I record the results show so I can see who is eliminated. I was horrified that Bristol escaped last night's elimination and that Joey had to say goodbye. At least Joey is entertaining. Bristol, not so much! I haven't paid that much attention to Kirstie, but I know she isn't as good as Joey is.

message 35: by Jackie (last edited Oct 03, 2012 01:21PM) (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 4961 comments And that really infuriated me! I didn't particularly like the dance Joey did but it was still a million times better than Bristol or Kirstie.

I know it's gonna be a hard season because of so many excellent dancers, but when we have people like Joey going and Bristol staying, it makes me hate the people who are voting because it's not about the dance. What they should do is have two sets of votes, one for the dance, and one for popularity, lol
I have ask though, why is Bristol popular, she's a teen mom with no talents except having a famous mother. At least Kirstie is funny and had a career in entertainment.

message 36: by Myra (new)

Myra | 406 comments Surely it's not Mama Bear Sarah's right wing supporters voting Bristol through! Do no liberals watch DWTS? Or any people who appreciate good performances? Guess I shouldn't complain. I never bothered to vote when I watched it religiously several seasons ago.

message 37: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 4961 comments I did vote but the Emmet-Mario season proved to me that it was a popularity contest because Mario moved like Emmet could only dream of. That's when I quit watching it, I was so pissed off. After that I watched a season here or there and never bothered voting again.

Ugh, I'm so sick of politics infiltrating every thing.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1012 comments Myra wrote: "Surely it's not Mama Bear Sarah's right wing supporters voting Bristol through! Do no liberals watch DWTS? Or any people who appreciate good performances? Guess I shouldn't complain. I never bo..."

She was an atrocious dancer in her own season, and yet made the finals.

It had to have been her mother's fans voting for her, it's the only way the math makes sense.

message 39: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 4961 comments And that's the reason I dislike this show; it has less to do with dancing than with popularity...even worse is that Bristol isn't popular in her own right but by extension through her mother.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1012 comments The enjoyable seasons are the ones where actual good dancers win. This is usually, however, the seasons where a dancer with a lot of fans is also a good dancer.

Some seasons (perhaps the majority) you can make a good prediction of the winner going in, before the first broadcast.

message 41: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 4961 comments The only reason I'm watching it this season is because most of the contestants are excellent dancers. I have to try not let the voting get to me.

The season when Brooke won was surprising, I have no idea who she was, what she hosts. I really think she won for her dancing, rather than popularity. I wish all the season could be that way.

Did you see when Cloris Leachman was on? I wanted to kick the TV in when she kept coming back.

message 42: by Myra (new)

Myra | 406 comments Chloris kept coming back because she was entertaining. And it was great to see an "old broad" doing so well. She was fun to watch. So often, the older dancers are just painful to watch. She was fun.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1012 comments Some bad dancers are amusing to watch. I have fond memories of Evander Holyfield with the cha-cha.

message 44: by Jackie (last edited Oct 08, 2012 10:02AM) (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 4961 comments If I want funny and amusing, I'll watch a comedy show. It would be awesome if this show was really about the dancing.

message 45: by Kuki (new)

Kuki (goodreadscomkuki) | 163 comments http://youtu.be/NF80SbicjBE I wonder if we may see one of this kids on Dancing with the Stars.

message 46: by Myra (new)

Myra | 406 comments Was everyone pleased with the outcome this year? I thought it was about time Tony had a decent partner.

message 47: by Eileen (new)

Eileen I was very happy with how it ended! No one deserved to win the Mirror Ball more then Tony.

message 48: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 4961 comments Tony sure, Melissa, no. All skinny arms and legs, she looked like a stick-figure rag doll to me. But it's not about the pros, all of them a fantasic and all of them deserve a mirror ball. Wouldn't it be cool to have the pros team up with each other and have a competition? The pros are just as much of celebrities now as the 'stars'. We all have our favorites and it would be one hell of a competition!

message 49: by Eileen (new)

Eileen I know it's not about the pros. But, Tony for 14 seasons seems to be always partnered with someone who was entertaining to watch but had two left feet. If I could have I would have given the ball to Kelly. The judges were way to hard on her. Melissa never really thrilled me.

message 50: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 4961 comments Kelly and Shawn were both better than Melissa.
It does suck for Tony having shitty partners. I swear the whole thing is fixed anyway.
