twinfish2 | 84 comments Is there anyone else out there who thinks some of these series are just taking to long to finish? Two of those series for me are Christine Feehans, carpathians, and Sherrilyn Kenyons, Dark hunter series. To me these books started off like foreplay, gradually building my excitement like a lover would, leading to a great orgasam. But we never ever get there. Its been like endless foreplay. And for anyone who has had a lover like that you eventually end up doing one of two things, faking it, or saying, get off me! P.s. sorry if I spelled orgasam wrong I can do it just not sure if I can spell it.

Dawn (dawnv) | 320 comments Yes I totally agree some just go on forever. The carpathians feels like the never ending series...it feels like groundhog day, the man says "you are/will be mine", and she says "no, I will not be dominated". He throws her in a sleep, next is an argument he wins she becomes dominated with consideration for her feelings and then you get a HEA.

Anita Blake is another one that just does not seem to go away, I stopped at book 8 or 9 when she started having sex with everyone and now it is like at book 17 or 18?

Dark Hunter series, I was really into it but Acheron was such a let down for me regardless I did read Bad Moon Rising and while I like it something is missing it felt rushed or something. Riley Jenson is fast loosing its appeal, Riley's preoccupation with men is just annoying...I want a soulmate, I want Ky no Quinn, it feels like that is now the plot.

I think in urban fantasy you can keep going for a long time but in PNR it is hard for a writer to maintain a certain depth while keeping the characters interesting.

Francie (love_francie) Some books do take forever. Anita Blake is like that. I'm stuck on book 8 or 9, and it's soooo boring, lol!! I love reading a series with a lot of books, because it will take me awhile to read them. But sometimes it just drags on and on and on when it should've ended sooner.

I think the house of night series is dragging on a bit
but maybe that's because i'm 20 this year and they're still in school lol

Tobin | 19 comments I totally agree that the Carpathian series drags badly, I actually hate Feehan because she is so formulaic. Drives me nuts, guy is destined to become a monster with a capital M, somehow meets utterly naive girl who ALWAYS has an aversion to him, and everything vampy, he obsesses, she gives in during intimate scenes then denies any connection add drill to brain and 200 more pages and there you go. She also never uses contractions like didn't or don't - makes reading feel choppy. The dark hunter series is also long but I really like them, for me there was enough movement within the sub plot to keep my attention span. I loved the first 6 but it waned out for me until Ash's story- which was torture, but good- and bad moon rising was also good. I am not happy however about Kenyon doing a YA spin off about Nick. I want to read about him as an adult and see him resolve his petty misguided issues.
