Top of any of my lists: _The Beak of the Finch_. I hate required reading, but if it were in my power, I'd require it.Can't beat the sheer dogged overwhelming period detail of _Origin of Species_. The first true book about where biodiversity comes from. From pigeon fanciers to duck poop, this book has got it all.
