Eric I'm looking for the first book I ever checked out of the library on my very own library card.

It was science fiction. The main character was some sort of agent/spy who had had most of his body regrown after a previous mission had gone badly. (He was left as little more than an ear and a blob in a basket.)

Cover art that I remember was of a man with one side of his face and body normal, one side scarred, possibly standing in a dusty red plain.

Zack | 1 comments You might be thinking of Frank Herbert's The Godmakers.

Andy It also sounds like the Parafath war by L.E. Modesitt Jr, http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18...

Debbie Moorhouse Could this have been a Lucky Starr book (by Isaac Asimov)?

I remember reading one as a child where David "Lucky" Starr had to have his limbs regrown after, I believe, some evil alien attached fungus to them in the previous book. Two of these books were about all the SF my local library had.
