Bonnie I just found out that Swans fly!! Somehow this topic was brought up at work and half of us had no idea. I've never seen a swan take off in flight well until I watched a clip on you tube. Anyone else not know that? you learn something new each day..YouTube link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsV4yW...

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8993 comments Sure, I knew that. I've read The Trumpet of the Swan more than once.
And Summer of the Swans, too, so I'm practically an expert. ;)

Hm. I think I knew this. Flamingos don't, and penguins don't, but I think that I've always known that swans do. They're like big white ducks.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8993 comments Flamingos fly, Sally. The ones at the zoo don't only because they've had their wings clipped.

Oh. What other bird doesn't fly? Ostrich? Emu?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8993 comments Both of those, the kiwi, I think, let me check... yep.
Here's the wikipedia page on flightless birds.

It looks like being flightless is asking to go extinct.
