Hi everyone. Please introduce yourself. What are you interested in writing? And anything else about yourself you'd like to share.

message 2: by Tara (new)

Tara HI. I'm Tara. I am attempting to write for the first time. I haven't started anything yet but I have a few ideas. I love to read! I would love to write romance, YA, chick lit to name just a few. I am excited for this group!

message 3: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (diva2416) I'm Alicia. I have been writing on and off my whole life, but am now coming to the point where I want to become more serious about it. I have a basic plot set out for I guess you could call it a chick lit novel. I also have ideas for a funny memoir and a YA book. My problem is just getting the momentum started to finish 1 project.

Hi all. I'm Cathy. I too am just starting to write. I have an outline for a chick lit novel (but am sure it's full of cliches).

It's been my dream to write since I was about 10 years old. My friend and I used to ghostwrite stories using our middle name as our last name and last and first initial as our first name...or something like that.

My biggest probelm is setting down that hour a dya to write. A measly hour! I get caught up surfing the internet or bookmooching...i just need to write!

Look forward to meeting everyone and sharing ideas.

message 5: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 50 comments I'm Suzanne. I would like to write a YA or chick lit book. I decided in college that I wanted to write a novel and my parents haven't let me forget it. That was 10 years ago, and my writing has really gone downhill since then! I definitely need to read some books or take a class or something. I am a copywriter, which is NOT writing at all. I also write for a local newspaper, which I love.

If I'm ever at my parents' house reading a book, my dad yells at me to stop reading and start writing. It's gotten to the point where I have lost interest in writing because of the pressure, so I'm hoping I can make it fun again. This group should really help!

message 6: by Jencey/ (new)

Jencey/ (jencey) My name is Jencey. I am currently working on a 40 page manuscript and love the idea of this group. I have been looking for a writing group and have been unable to find one on and off line. I just want to feel comfortable with it. I would say that I am writing a Chic lit novel that is a work in progress.

message 7: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (diva2416) Welcome Suzanne and Jencey!! Hopefully we can help each other out.

message 8: by Tara (new)

Tara Welcome everyone! This is going to be a great group.

Hello I'm Jessica, I had a goodreads acount a while back and had a lot of friends on it, but I had to delete the account because of... some issues. But I'm back and I love to write. I write mostly about couples and dramas. I am nineteen and I have a baby girl that I love oh-so much.

message 13: by Stacy (new)

Stacy (stacymarie913) Hello all, some of you ladies allready know me from other groups but for those of you that don't -
I'm Stacy, I've never written a book before, I tried once when I was about 18 or 19 but it never went anywhere. I've always thought it would be awesome to write a book, but I haven't a clue where to start. I'm always analyzing as I'm writing (with anything that I write) and trying to make it come out perfect the first time.

I had an idea, not sure if it's a good one or not but I thought I'd toss it out there -
What if we get into groups of two to four or so and write a book together? I was thinking after a basic plot or whatever is decided on, each author could create a character for the story. And after that, the rest of my idea goes ka-put. Like I said, I haven't the faintest clue what I'm doing. LOL!

RE: Stacy - "What if we get into groups of two to four or so and write a book together? "

This reminds me of a blog site I found one day...where readers help to write an entire Chick lit story together...it's a very innovative idea...check it out..it's called "Saving Face" by Dahlia Lithwick

Yeah, it sounds like we're talking about the same person. It's a really cool idea!

message 18: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (diva2416) In honor of this group I thought it would be fun to go through my old journals that I wrote in while growing up. I thought they were so silly that I decided to make a blog out of it. If you want a good laugh check it out: http://wisdomwhimsy.blogspot.com/

Mona | 5 comments Hi! I am a good friend of Alicia's! :-) She invited me into this group and I am so glad! I have loved writing all my life. I was an English major in college, got my degree and now teach Reading, Writing and ElA. I used to work with 6-8th graders, which I loved, but now am with 3rd graders. It's been very fun and rewarding and I feel so lucky to be working with such a great group of students of all ages.

I would love to write a children's book, a YA book and maybe someday a memoir. I also love writing poetry.

Hello Mona! I envy you! You've got my job...well, the job I want. I'm going back to school for a BA in Early Childhood Education. Hopefully by the time I graduate, the job market will have picked up some.

Thanks so much. I do love my job and feel very lucky to be working with such great students. Good luck to you and I hope all your dreams come true! :-)

message 24: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (nicole21) | 14 comments I'm Nicole. I've been pretending to write a novel since finishing my creative writing degree (which was more than a few years ago, unfortunately). I have published a few short pieces in various lit magazines though. The current work-in-progress is a chick lit murder mystery set at a TV station (I work at a TV station). Right now it's less like a novel and more like a disjointed collection of short stories featuring the same main character.

message 25: by Tara (new)

Tara Welcome Nicole! How is it working at a TV station?

message 26: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (nicole21) | 14 comments Tara wrote: "Welcome Nicole! How is it working at a TV station?"
It can be fun, it can be stressful, it can drive you to drink!! It's rarely the same from one day to the next. You never know when everything you've planned for the day is going to get derailed because some nutcase decides to go on a crime spree. I've learned that if I'm wearing ridiculously high heels, I need to bring flip-flops along because there's too great a chance that my 8-hour day will be stretching on. Even on the worst days, I really can't imagine doing something else.

message 27: by Tara (new)

Tara Are you a reporter Nicole?

I work in an office where you never know from day to day whether your boss will be in a good mood or bad. That can drive you to drink also. LOL!

message 28: by Cathy (new)

Cathy (cgraceh) | 236 comments Mod
Sounds crazy, Nicole, but it must have its perks too:) I'm glad you've joined our group...look forward to reading more of your stuff

message 29: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (nicole21) | 14 comments Director. Perks aren't as great as they once were, but I'm optimistic that some of the tickets, food, etc. will make their way back.

message 30: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (diva2416) Nicole, that sounds like an interesting concept. I know Al Roker had his own mystery come out recently that took place in like a setting like the morning show. I haven't heard if his was good or not.

I still win with the work driving you to drink award. I work for my father in law. So if I have bad day at work and am looking forward to a nice Thanksgiving off, guess who I see at the dinner table? He isn't really that bad but still it does get a little awkward.

Heh, heh, heh, oh don't I know it Tara. Especially after yesterday. It took hours for my blood pressure to go back down to normal yesterday.
Not only do we not know what kind of mood she'll be in from one minute to the next, but when she's in a foul one - we ALL feel it. I think she's made it her personal goal to make each and every one of our working lives as frustrating as possible.

Welcome to all our new members!! I'm excited to see that we have some more published authors in our group. Look forward to hearing from everyone.

As always, feel free to start a new discussion tab where you feel motivated to write and add comments and/or suggestions to any of the current threads as well.

Anyone working on a current project?

message 41: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (familywithbooks) | 9 comments Hi everyone! I joined this group sometime ago but am just getting around to introducing myself :)

I'm Kourtney. I'm interested in writing chick lit but dabble from time to time in YA. I used to write for a few websites when I was in college (the ones I had fun doing were the dating/relationship advice websites). Currently with my workload, it is getting harder and harder to find the motivation to write. I'm hoping this group will give me that extra oomph to get my fingers going again!

Welcome, Kourtney! I hope you find some motvation from our group and its members to get back in the writing habit everyday. We have a discussion board where we encourage members to share their tips on how to get in the habit of writing everyday. It includes links to writing prompts, ideas to get over prascratination, and more. Please add any tips or experience you may have in getting the creative juices flowing: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/2...

Also, I try to write in my blog a few times a week to maintain the routine of writing everyday. On eof my recent posts was about a young girl (15 years old) who wrote and published her first book and has been self-promoting it too. I found it very inspiring, with the message of perserverannce. Check it out: http://whereyouwishuponastar.blogspot...

Also, every Wednseday I dedicate my blog to a writing tip, idea or experience of successful chick lit authors. This week I talked about how reading can be research for writing and gave some famous authors' books recommendations.

So welcome! And please feel free to share anything and everything a s I often say to all our members. This is your group! Let's make it fun:)

Hello! Just found this thread and it seemed like a good fit for an author who just published her first chick-lit novella. It's a comedy called Confessions of a Liberal Lover and, as the title implies, it's rated RL, which stands for racey liberal.

It's only available in e-book format right now from Red Rose Publishing, but will soon be out in Amazon kindle and hopefully a print version too.

If anyone would like to learn more visit my websites at http://maudmuller.net or http://emmuller.com. Those are the two pen names I write under. There's an excerpt there and I sure would like to know what you folks think.

Confessions of a Liberal Lover by E.M. Muller

message 44: by Milinkalap (new)

Milinkalap I'm Lauren. I've been working on the same piece (and a few others) for quite some time (since about 10 years ago) and I've always thought about publishing but now it's a reality. I ended up with 250,000+ words, which is somewhere around 1000 pages in print for a book format.

That's when I realized I'd need to figure out how to manage to do a series, because with that many words, on my big plot line, I had only hit two major points....

I write fantasy, mostly it was an escape for me when I was super unhappy in high school and I just kept it going.

message 45: by [deleted user] (last edited Aug 02, 2010 06:07PM) (new)

Finally my novella, Confessions of a Liberal Lover, is available in a Kindle version. Red Rose Publishing redid their website and so there was a considerable delay it getting their books out to third party distributors. Here the link to my website which has links to both buy pages and the book trailer I made. Sure has been a incredible learning experience. http://EMMuller.com
