Since you all might now know each other I thought it might be a good idea for you to each throw down a little blurb about yourself, what you do, what books/authors you like. So please use this space to write about yourselves.

Hey Guys and Dolls,
My name is Adam and I am an.. (oops wrong group. haha jk) A year ago i actually hated to read, but after hanging out with KOD (Kim and Todd. its their celebrity couple name) I've realized I don't hate to read, i just need to pick books that interest me. um so currently i am reading the sookie stackhouse books, and im really enjoying them. they are very well written and I enjoy how ms. harris writes them. some of my other favorites include "Catcher in the Rye", "Lord of the Flies", "Of Mice and Men", and "Maus". I also enjoy history based novels, and what a shock that was my major in college. I think history is a great way to tell a story, and i enjoy reading about different sides of history, because when you learn history, you often only hear about whats in the states curriculum, but i think you need to learn about these untold stories. with that being said, i think one of the most interesting books there is and definitely recommend it is "Lies my teachers told me". it tells you a lot of the untold stories. One example is did you know woodrow wilson was actually quiet racist and helen keller was a socialist. i think ive rambled on enough and i look forward to reading more books..

Todd | 89 comments Hi everyone. This is awkward because I already know everyone here except for Christine, so I mean there's not much to say except lets get reading!

ok ok after much pushing from Adam I'll write a blurb too - (even though you all know me you might not know my literary interests) so here goes! As a kid I LOVED reading. My sister can tell you I would go through books like water. As I got older I started losing my passion for reading because I was forced to read a lot of books in HS and college. Books I was not enjoying. Now that I'm out of college and working I've found time to continuing reading. Thanks to my sister (who is part of our group now!) I'm exceedingly fond of all of Jane Austen's novels. It was her that pushed me to read Pride and Prejudice (which is now my favorite book). I love reading Austen sequel novels though I always find myself reading ones based on Pride and Prejudice. I also enjoy graphic novels; Watchmen, Maus, Persepolis, just to name a few. I'm in LOVE with the Sookie Stackhouse novels and yes yes I'm a fan of Twilight. (make fun now) I'm also hugely attached to Shakespeare and a lot of classic novels (Picture of Dorian Gray, Count of Monte Cristo, Wuthering Heights). I'm always open to trying new books, so if you have something you think I'd enjoy let me know. I'm going to begin a book that Gabby recommended to me (The Woman in White) so always feel free to tell me of new books! Ok anyway - enough about me and my literary tastes. Tell us more about yourselves =)

message 7: by Christine (new)

Christine Ann (cad2125) | 7 comments I think if I remember correctly, I wasn't a huge fan of this guy named Todd. It's all coming back to me now...there were moments of gold and there were flashes of light. there were things I'd never do again but then they'd always seemed right. There were nights of endless pleasure...Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

message 8: by Todd (new)

Todd | 89 comments HAHAHAHAHA. Now I can't get the song out of my head

message 10: by Christine (new)

Christine Ann (cad2125) | 7 comments Wait!! I am a HUGGGEEEEE fan of Twilight too!! Oh man this book club has a lot of like-minded people...except Todd.

message 11: by Christine (new)

Christine Ann (cad2125) | 7 comments it's such a JAM!!

message 12: by Todd (new)

Todd | 89 comments I take offense to that Christine. Twilight wasn't that great, but I will give New Moon a chance, Kim says its supposed to be a lot better.

P.s. whenever you talk about jams I always think about the little kid on the subway who did the flip hahahahaha

message 14: by Christine (new)

Christine Ann (cad2125) | 7 comments adam, you were on my top people list. now you are not. how in the lord's name can you put a list of yankee greats w/o jorge posado? i mean COME ON!! i will definitely read a book about jorge any day. ok i need to go kill mice and this new website is consuming my time...this website and meatloaf songs...

Once I create a thread for April's book suggest it. I'll add it for April's poll and once everyone votes we'll see if it wins!

well if theres a biography about jorge posada i will be more than happy to read it.. ill look it up

message 17: by Todd (new)

Todd | 89 comments ok here is my blurb:

I started reading a lot more after graduating, I'm a big fan of science fiction, especially dystopia books (1984, A Brave New World, etc) and find the parallels to today's society interesting. Also, I've gotten more into memoirs via Augsten Burroghs and I've also started reading more science-related books i.e. Musicophilia and The Man Who Mistook His Wife For a Hat, both by Oliver Sacks. Not suprisingly my major in college was biology, although I've also enjoyed Little Children, which was made into a movie recently with Kate Winslet. I want to read more books that have been adapted into movies so that I can compare them. I guess that's it?

message 18: by Adam, The Baggage Handler (new)

Adam | 183 comments Mod
hahahaha.. at first i read todds blurb and in the part where you said you like little children, i forgot it was a book.. and i was like kinda creepy todd..

message 19: by Todd (new)

Todd | 89 comments hahaha I just realized that, I should probably clarify, I meant Little Children the NOVEL

message 20: by Christine (last edited Feb 23, 2010 01:18PM) (new)

Christine Ann (cad2125) | 7 comments adam, if you read it clearly, it says "i've also enjoyed little children." that is way creepier.

message 21: by Todd (new)

Todd | 89 comments Wow, this is awkward. Good thing random people I don't know aren't reading this, haha

This thread was such a good idea. So far this is what we know about everyone. Todd likes little children. Christine likes Celine Dion songs and suffered from some lapse of memory, but "it's all coming back". Adam is a fan of the Yankees and loves the office and musicals. Oh and this book club is a JAM!

message 25: by Adam, The Baggage Handler (new)

Adam | 183 comments Mod
honestly theres really nothing else to know about me, besides im awesome.. but people should figure that out on their own..

message 26: by Christine (new)

Christine Ann (cad2125) | 7 comments don't cry my young ones, but i'm shutting down my computer for the night. i need to go to a women in science meeting (no one laugh). i will be back tomorrow and will finally write a blurb about myself.

p.s. i am still weirded-out by todd's liking of little children.

message 37: by Tracey (new)

Tracey (tgoody3784) | 5 comments Hi book friends. Sorry to join the convo late but I didn't want my comments to be used in Todd's appearance on Dateline's To Catch a Predator so I opted to wait it out ;)

I'm obsessed with reading but also have the attention span of a fruit fly so I tend to start and abandon books pretty quickly. I prefer non-fiction, memoirs, etc, basically things that either educate me or make me laugh, although I'll read pretty much anything that's not crap. I LOVE David Sedaris, Chuck Klosterman, Jonathon Safran Foer and am getting into David Foster Wallace....which I'm pretty sure means my preferred genre of books is "hipster." Which is unfortunate because I hate the word hipster...

PS I'm extremely excited to start calling Kim and Todd KOD. That is all.

message 38: by Michael (new)

Michael Rosenblum | 1 comments Yoyo Everyone. Sorry it took me so long to post I've just been putting off this thing for a while. My name is Michael and I know Todd from Metuchen. I usually read nonfiction(history, politics, global affairs) but im excited to read some novels. I just finished with "Slaughter House Five" last month which by the way was awesome!!

Of shoes, and ships, and sealing wax
Of cabbages, and kings
And why the sea is boiling hot, And whether pigs have wings
