So far I'm loving the blogging :)
Not that I'm doing much lol, but i have added a 101 things to do in 1001 days list.
A bucket list and a place to post book reviews and a Favorite quotes list.

Anyone have more ideas?

message 8: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I don't have a blog myself, but if I did I'd probably add restaurant and bar reviews. I love eating out and finding cool places to go for drinks.

Movie reviews are good too, as are your thoughts on news or events.

Also, any cool 'finds' - great websites, new shops, services, clothes, gadgets etc. Anything really bad is worth writing about too (and you can make it funny).

Good ideas Lauren!
I would read your blog if you had one :)

I now have 2 blogs lol. One with the lists and so on.
And i have just started a Archaeology blog :)

I have run out of ideas for my 101 things to do in 1001 days list. I have looked at other peoples ideas, and i just had to share this one:

" Let a stranger feed you grapes "

Thought it was pretty arb :P

Tracy (tracymm) | 43 comments silly Q, Lu: where's your blog link?

And check out this site, sort of the official 101 list site for more ideas. I'm also at this group and got a lot of my list ideas from them.
Also took me a few days to compile said list; take you time.

Lauren Smith Nice blog Lu!
I've started one myself, but I haven't put nearly as much effort into it as you have, like widgets and pictures. I just chose a layout and pasted some of my reviews there. Will post the link once I've spruced it up a bit :)

Well done on yours though!

Thanks :)

Yes please post yours so i can follow you :)

Let me know if you need help with anything!

message 17: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Thanks Lu, will do :)

I've noticed that some people on Goodreads and LibraryThing just post an extract or a summary of their reviews on those sites, and then provide a link to their blog where you can read the rest. I think I'll do that for my reviews from now on. Not sure if I should do that with the existing ones too...

I just copy and paste my review and make a new post and go from there. How are you doing it?

Hi Lu, I have discovered that if you are with Wordpress you can link your review on Goodreads so that it also automatically appears on your Blog, but THIS DOES NOT WORK WITH BLOGGER. I was trying to sort it out but it is not possible. It would have been easier to do it that way, but its not important.

Would love to follow other peoples blogs so if you have one then please share. :-)

Lauren Smith Thanks to Emma I've discovered the awesome Goodreads feature that posts your review to your blog, so I went ahead and did it with my better reviews.

Here's the link: http://violininavoid.wordpress.com/

It's still not as pretty as your guy's blogs, and it's only got the reviews from this site, but I'm hoping to add some more stuff :)

message 24: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12633 comments Mod
Oh no Lauren your on wordpress :( I'm not sure how to follow you? Is there a feature that allows it?

Blospot allows you to follow people, see when they make a new post etc.

message 25: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Hold on, I'll add a subscribe widget. Hope it works...

message 26: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Ok, added it :)

Emma (emmauk007) | 1081 comments Thanks Lauren..I am now officially addicted to blogging, and you 2 are just enablers :-)

Hi Lu, there are some great ideas on Bookblogs and its good to get involved in the daily memes that they have advertised.

I copied this from Bookblogs for anyone else that is blogging and needs new ideas.

Monday: In My Mailbox hosted by http://www.thestorysiren.com/, and Mailbox Monday originally hosted by http://printedpage.us/, but going on tour soon.

Tuesday: Teaser Tuesdays hosted by http://shouldbereading.wordpress.com/

Wednesday: WWW hosted by Should Be Reading, Waiting on Wednesday hosted by Breaking the Spine, and Wishful Wednesday hosted by The Bluestocking Guide.

Thursday: Booking Through Thursday

Friday: Friday Finds hosted by http://shouldbereading.wordpress.com/

Each of these sites posts the rules so you can see how it works. Another thing to know is that the more you post, the more people will want to see what's new on your page every day.

I am still trying to figure out how to do certain things but enjoying it so far.

message 29: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Yeah, I'm addicted now too! I spent so much time today trying to settle on a theme, choose a picture, and edit my posts.

Working on a non-book review post now, although actually there's a book review within it :)

I made another blogging thread to list ideas and tools for blogging - check it out.

message 34: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12633 comments Mod
Heheh welcome Niecole!

First off go to blogspot.com as i think it is the easiest. Decided on a name and all that. It will run you through.

When you are done you click on design and it helps you design it. Let me know when you get there and if you need help!

message 35: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I'm going mad trying to pick a design. I must have had ten different ones today! At least I've found a header I really like. For now.

If anyone has any feedback on the design, please let me know. I sort of like what I've got now, but I wish the widgets had more space between them... argh!

message 36: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12633 comments Mod
I took me 2 days to design mine lol! I kept on going from one to the other and back again. My boyfriend looked on the verge of tears everytime I ask him what looks better!

I really like your header Lauren!

I'm not sure how the design work on Wordpress though, only blogger :( I find blogger's really easy and convenient :) How's wordpress? Can you atleast download templates and so on?

I think you just need a background and then you are sorted!

message 37: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Thanks, I really like that header too.

I just changed the design again though...

Wordpress has templates too, but none of them are perfect for me, I wish I could pick and choose from the various features...

Ugh, my boyfriend is nagging me because he wants to play poker, will have to come back again tomorrow :(

Hi Niecole, I agree with Lu, I havent a clue how to create a blog on wordpress. Bloger is much easier and even has templates to get you started. It's quite easy to get your blog up and running quite quickly, but other functions i.e. creating labels, tags etc took me longer to figure out.

I think your blog would be a fun one, as...and dont take this the wrong way, but you have the gift of the gab :-)

Hey if I can create a blog then anyone can, and we will all help you anyway we can.

Can you get a template from the internet? There are tons of sites that make them, or have you already looked there?

Blogging is more important that poker! :P

message 41: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Wordpress has 100 templates that you can choose from, and the features differ. It goes from a simple one column blog, to two or three column blogs, or a template that only allows widgets in the footer or sidebar, to one that has places for widgets all over, etc. I don't understand what all the features are for yet, but will probably become clear the more I use the blog.

For the moment I want something with a custom header, so I can use the image I chose. I'd like to have summaries of my posts on the homepage, rather than the full post, but I don't really like the templates that have that function.

I don't think Wordpress allows you to download templates off the web, but I haven't checked it out. Having 100 templates to choose from was hard enough, I don't want to make it even worse!

I haven't tried blogger.com, so I can't say if it's easier than Wordpress. I didn't have much of a problem though, and I like Wordpress's clean, simple layout. I don't understand some of the jargon, but for the moment I don't think I need to. I also really like that Goodreads allows you to publish your reviews to Wordpress, with images and links. It saved me a lot of work!

But really, the hardest thing about blogging so far was choosing a name and a design. The rest was just working on the details :)

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Emma! I appreciate that :)
I also dont think I should put serious reviews on my blog, I love to read dont get me wrong, but when it comes to reviewing I suck!
I'll make it fun and funny... maybe some of my party stuff in there to :)

Thanks guys for the help! But your going to help me some more, if you could give me ideas about what to do???

message 43: by Lauren (last edited Jul 13, 2010 10:26PM) (new)

Lauren Smith What kind of ideas are you looking for Niecole?

One thing you could start with is adding widgets, which are basically little applications or gadgets. Some of these are automatically included in your template, but you can add others. If you're using Blogger Lu and Emma should be able to tell you how.
I have widgets to show my latest posts, to allow people to subscribe to my blog, and to search my blog. You can also add widgets to show your Goodreads shelf, groups, quotes, etc.

I started another blogging thread here: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/3...
You can use the websites I listed there for finding pictures and getting blogging ideas.

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Lauren!
Ok the widgets sound cool, still not to sure what they are, but I'm gonna try them out!

I'm just looking for some random ideas about what I can put on my blog? You all do revies a lot, but I'm no good at that...

message 45: by Lauren (last edited Jul 13, 2010 11:10PM) (new)

Lauren Smith Sign up at www.plinky.com. They have daily writing prompts like "Defend your vice" or "What is it that you've lost and want back?"

Whatever entries you make there can be posted straight to your blog, if you use their blogging service.

Otherwise, just write about anything that interests you - your new favourite restaurant, your opinion on something in the news, your top ten clothing items, your top five songs for a roadtrip, the crazy things that are happening in your life etc., etc. :)

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

Hehe thanks Lauren! You're really great at this advice thing you know :)

message 47: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm busy with everything now... Hope it turns out ok haha

message 48: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Haha, thanks Niecole!

Maybe I should blog about it :)
Oh no, but then I'd be an agony aunt...

message 49: by [deleted user] (new)

hehe... that might not be such a bad ideas, just think of the interesting stories you'll come accross from some people!
