Kelley Anne | 1619 comments So I've been following the thread that talks about the worst book covers, and it's been making me think about which covers are my very favorites! Thought that might be a fun topic!

Probably my top cover has to be for Hunting Ground by Patricia Briggs. I actually found on her website a copy of the picture without the title or anything and that's the picture on the desktop of my computer. I don't know what it is about it, but I love that cover!

Hunting Ground (Alpha & Omega, #2) by Patricia Briggs

Another favorite is the series by Melissa Marr. I love all of those covers!

Wicked Lovely (Wicked Lovely, #1) by Melissa Marr Ink Exchange (Wicked Lovely, #2) by Melissa Marr Fragile Eternity (Wicked Lovely, #3) by Melissa Marr Radiant Shadows (Wicked Lovely, #4) by Melissa Marr

Ellen | 326 comments Kelley Anne, I think I like the Cry Wolf cover better... but only by a little.

I just recieved my weekly newsletter from Rachel Vincent with the sixth book (Alpha) cover and blurb.

I love the shifter series covers.

message 4: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) I love the cover for Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick , even though I didn't love the book. I like the covers for the Sookie books, too, though I know a lot of people don't. And I like the cover for TWILIGHT. It's so simple, but so distinctive.

LOL! I agree! I live in a very conservative state, so I tend to only read books in public that have covers that aren't going to catch attention!

I liked THE DARK DIVINE cover, too. And I also think this is a really pretty, eye-catching cover: [image error] .

message 15: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3122 comments I think that when books have the basic black covers with bright vivid colors your eyes just go there no matter what. Also it seems like most of the covers we have listed here have the bright jewel tones that pop out too.

I didn't like the Night Huntress books at first. Took me a really long time to buy the first one because I thought the cover was cheesy looking.

That's a really good point! I don't think that I've ever really noticed that, but you are right. Most of my favs have a pretty dark background with some gorgeous splash of color!

Yes, I work in a hotel and most of my job is down time while I wait to check in guests. That leaves a lot of time for reading. Its most embarassing when they come up and say what are you reading? Most of the time, I tape a piece of plain paper over the front and write my name really big across it under the guise that Im marking it as mine....especailly if theres a half nekked man or woman on the front. This is one of my favorites. The girl is just SO pretty! Enticing the Earl by Nicole Byrd

message 24: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I have this book cover I bought years ago from Lillian Vernon. I always slip it on my PB's and tell everyone it's to protect the book (right?!).

message 25: by ~Kate~ (new)

message 26: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments I agree about the Fallen cover. It was really nicely done. Too bad the book fell short!

message 27: by ~Kate~ (new)

~Kate~ (katesbooklife) i actually loved Fallen as well as the cover.
The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson << now this book cover i loved but hated the story

message 28: by DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (last edited Mar 09, 2010 09:23AM) (new)

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 437 comments YA books are being given amazing covers of late, as beautifully illustrated by Katie.

Some other favorite covers of mine (several of which I have yet to read and one that I couldn't finish - so my appreciation of the cover is in no way a reflection of the pages inside).

The Den of Shadows Quartet by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes Valiant (The Modern Faerie Tales, #2) by Holly Black Graceling (The Seven Kingdoms Trilogy, Book 1) by Kristin Cashore Darkness Calls (Hunter Kiss, #2) by Marjorie M. Liu A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore Ghostland (Ghostland World, #1) by Jory Strong Midwinter by Matthew Sturges Mona Lisa Blossoming (Monère Children of the Moon, #3) by Sunny Shift (Shifters, #5) by Rachel Vincent Red-Headed Stepchild (Sabina Kane, #1) by Jaye Wells The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff

message 29: by ~Kate~ (new)

~Kate~ (katesbooklife) i love the Valiant cover i havent seen that version of it before it looks so beautiful

message 30: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments I really liked the Red Headed Stepchild cover.. I think it was the girl's hair. It just stood out!!

My new favorite cover: Alpha (Shifters, #6) by Rachel Vincent

Can you say badass?? It almost looks like she's out of The Godfather or something.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 437 comments Yeah, I couldn't decide between Shift and Alpha - both are brilliant covers. And I agree on the hair in the Red-Headed Stepchild cover - I don't care for the other two covers in the series as much, but I bought a print of the first one for my library.

I have to agree with this. I am reading Darkest Pleasure at the moment, and every now and then I will stop and look at the front cover... hot hot hot.

Badass! (sorry, couldn't resist) I think that this has to be at the very top of my list. Somebody mentioned this in the Rachel Vincent fourm, but each book cover Faythe grows. You can literally see her maturing to where she is now.

And the cover is so damn awesome it wins hands down anyway!

message 38: by Inkspeckle (new)

Inkspeckle | 17 comments Lover Mine (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #8) by J.R. Ward
I thought, "whoa, is that nail polish on Xhex's fingers?" Then I looked closer and saw the scratch marks. Could it be any more accurate than that?

message 39: by Kelley Anne (new)

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments Inkspeckle - I agree! I love that cover!

message 40: by Melanie (new)

Melanie Lennon | 1 comments Nicholas (The Lords of Satyr, #1) by Elizabeth Amber [image error] Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick Tempted by Megan Hart The Luxe (Luxe, #1) by Anna Godbersen Rumors (Luxe, #2) by Anna Godbersen Envy (Luxe, #3) by Anna Godbersen Changeling (Sisters of the Moon, #2) by Yasmine Galenorn Valiant (The Modern Faerie Tales, #2) by Holly Black
I'm influenced by covers. A great cover will make me pick up a book, but I've learned not to buy based on a cover. Covers I love for books I love are:
Hush, Hush; Holly Black's Valiant; Twilight series; Elizabeth Amber's Nicholas the Lords of Satyr; Yasmine Galenorn's Witchling and Changeling; Anna Godbersen's Luxe, Rumors, and Envy; Megan Hart's Tempted and Broken.

~Kate~ (katesbooklife) ^^ they are very beautiful covers

message 44: by Heather B (new)

Heather B (heatherbenson) I like the covers best when they're more simple and there isn't too much small detail in them.
