Maria | 30 comments Hello All! Although I follow your updates I haven't been posting on my goodreads account and I need to do that more often as well as visit here. I just got so used to AOL boards
Anyway, I went to a literary luncheon put on by my church today. There were 4 authors and one of them was......George Pelecanos! Since I have been in the DC area I have been trying to get to one of his book signings but they are few and far between. I got up my courage and had my book signed after lunch and he was so great! Mike tried to take my pic with him and my darn phone wouldn't co-operate! We left and went to another author's area and Mike figured out what he had done incorrectly and back we went to Pelecanos who was gracious enough to stand up again and have his pic taken with me. He said "I knew you would be back" LOL! If I can figure out how to add a pic here I will do it. Still need to get it off my phone and onto my Mac. Still computer challenged, sorry to say.
I am so excited! He is writing a 2 hour Pacific version of Band of Brothers. Not sure who he is writing it with or if he is doing this alone. Let me tell you, he is so handsome in person! He's nice, polite and what we would call kind of gritty cool-if that makes any sense. Now I have his newest book and can't wait to get started. Hope you are all well and I'm adding my book posting into my New Year's Resolutions. So far I have kept all of them! Now that's a miracle!

Maria

Melodie (melodieco) | 3675 comments Good to "see" you, Maria! Have you been pounded by all that east coast snow? I agree about Pelecanos. I got to one of his signings here in Denver a few years ago and he was great, and of course when it comes to his books he can do no wrong, IMHO!

Fabulous to see you! I hope you are able to give us a try here on Goodreads - we are having as much fun with books and book talk as we did on AOL, just with the different format. ;) I saw Michael Connelly today and will write up a report later. I was quite annoyed when my Blackberry froze up and had to be restarted while I was trying to snap pictures.

Maria | 30 comments Melodie: Yes. Pounded. We have some damage to the house as do many. I think this is the most snow this area has had for the last 100 years or something-for the ENTIRE winger though. Not just 2 storms. Agree with you re George P. He is exactly as I expected him to be which is just fine with me LOL! It's good to "see" you also, Melodie.

Maria | 30 comments Hello Ann! I will try to maneuver Goodreads. Seems pretty easy now that I have responded to you and Melodie. I would love to see M. Connelly too. Isn't that the worst part of this techie age? You have the darn Blackberry or picture phone and when you finally learn how to use it the thing doesn't do what it's supposed to! That's why I'm afraid to ask for a Kindle for a gift : ). Hope all is well.

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 8694 comments Hey, Maria, long time no see! Great to hear from you.

Yes, I remember several signings with GP and he is special. I'm so glad you finally got to see him.

Please keep coming back; GR is not AOL in terms of ease of format but we are all quite used to it I think, and it does have its perks, like being able to list your books and see what others are reading.

As a nice enticement there is a rigorous discussion of Shutter Island the Movie going on elsewhere, just do a search on this group and you'll come up with it I'm sure.

Good to "see" you. Please do try to come visit here on Goodreads. It is okay once you get used to it.
Glad you got to see Pelecanos.
I met Michael Connelly last fall at Bcon, and he will be at LCC in Los Angeles which is less than three weeks away.

Susie Fevella (susieinks) | 1700 comments Hi Maria! I'm glad to see you too! AOL was a little easier for me, but if you hang around here for awhile it's not too bad either ;)

Sherry | 3997 comments good to "See" you, maria!! don't be a stranger. i think the shutter island discussion is in a thread called mark your calendars: feb 18th or something like that.
carol, barry, my husband, and i went to see it last night.

Donnajo | 3841 comments Hiya Maria. We were in contact with my nephew who lives in DC and he said he's never seen it so bad. I'm sure he would be squeezing in vacation if he wasn't busy with work and college. But next weekend he leaves for his internship for 2 weeks in Rio. So I'm sure he will have good weather there and if not when he comes back he's going to CA for a big business convention thing. Then he graduates and gets his masters in May.

Maria | 30 comments It's so nice to hear from all of you! I do miss the M/T crew. Always has been the nicest place on AOL. Donnajo, congrats on your nephew's graduation. How fortunate to be going to Rio. It's awful here right now. I look out of the windows and see snow piled all over the place. Driving and parking is a pain. They are not used to this kind of weather around here and the crews who have been trying to clear it are doing their best but there is just no place to put it all!

message 12: by Maria (new)

Maria | 30 comments Hi Carol! I actually joked a little with GP about some of us on a book message board fighting over him. Cute guy. I met some other authors too but they were non-fiction and one was a children's author. ~I will look around the M/T group and post more. I have read so many books and haven't documented them anywhere. I even stopped writing in my book journal! I need to get back to this site and use it as my one stop -does it all for my reading addiction.

message 13: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo | 3841 comments That is what he said Maria. I think he worked from home two days. We are expecting more in NJ on tuesday and wednesday I hope it's not bad because Wednesday I have a dr's appt. My sister & brother in law went to the shore yesterday just to check on things and water plants and with all the snow they got down there which usually melts fast and this time didn't they couldn't get in the driveway and had a very hard time getting into the house from the front. Plus believe it or not there was a run yesterday so there wasn't many parking spots available. They were running on the streets and the beach. Well I'm in my where is spring mode now. Get though this week and it's countdown time. Yet we can still have snow in March.

Ann (annrumsey) | 15581 comments Maria:
I have found adding books to my bookshelves is a great tool. You have three default shelves [READ, CURRENTLY READING, and TO READ:] Those three are a good start and if you want you can even upload books from a spreadsheet to your READ shelf, though they don't always match perfectly; it can save time when you have a lot of books. After that, we have adapted differently to adding additional shelves. If you look around at other people's bookshelves you can get some ideas for yours. Good Luck!

_______________
Maria, I would be interested in that. My Dad served in the Army Air Corp in Burma, India and China. So little is to be found about that part of the war, except for the pilots of the Flying Tigers. Dad was with the Tigers and was not a pilot with them, but head mechanic, Master Sgt.

message 16: by Maria (new)

Maria | 30 comments I'm interested too. This sounds like a great project and way past due for those who served in the Pacific like your dad.
