Still Alice by Lisa Genova -- question 2

After Alice first learns she has Alzheimer's disease, "The sound of her name penetrated her every cell and seemed to scatter her molecules beyond the boundaries of her own skin. She watched herself from the far corner of the room" (p. 71). What do you think of Alice's reaction to her diagnosis?

I think Alice probably had a very normal reaction to her diagnosis. Even though she knew in her head that everything wasn't right with her she still wasn't prepared to hear about her diagnosis. She suffered a trauma because of the news that she had Alzheimer's disease and then had an out-of-body experience. She distanced herself from the diagnosis by watching herself from the far corner of the room. She wasn't sure she could believe that she had Alzheimer's.
