Somehwere I got the idea that we're supposed to READ the books for the challenge, not use audiobooks. Are we allowed to use audiobooks unless otherwise posted? Based on the comments I've read, I think this is right. Thanks--I know it's kinda late to ask. :)

15:8 What are the parameters as far as the types of artists acceptable for this challenge? Painters, dancers, musicians, and so on? Thank you!

Just joined goodreads, simply because I like the Challenge idea -- awesome! So, I'm going back through my March/April reads, and for 25.9 I'd like to use a Sue Grafton novel for "an author who was popular when you were in high school or college."
She'd only done the "A", "B" and "C" ("is for Corpse") books by the end of college -- is that popular enough?

I think so.
Brand new to the group and am trying to get through all the threads. I found the Spring Challenge Tasks that end this month but wasn't sure how I submit my readings. Is there a thread where I list these or directions on how to provide the information to group leaders? Any help would be appreciated, I'm excited to be a part of a group on goodreads!
Elizabeth - in this same header, use the thread Spring 2010 Completed Tasks. Just post your tasks there and Cynthia, our moderator, will add you to the Readerboard.
Yet another silly question - are we supposed to total our own points in each post? And for those that are bad at math (like myself!) can we skip the combo points section because it confuses us? I mean, is that optional?Sorry for all the questions but hopefully I'll be more prepared for the next go-round!

But if you do keep your own tally, you can tell if there is something missing.
All of the tasks are optional. You can complete as many or few as you want. For tasks with multiple books, you wont get credit unless you complete all of the parts, but you can just choose to skip them if they confuse you.

I m..."I think you might be mistaking the "general" challenge (right now under the topic called Spring Challenge 2010) run by Cynthia and a "subchallenge" called Reading with Style, which is a different competition altogether, run by Sam. You cand read the rules for that challenge in its own thread, but you can freely choose whether you want to complete the Seasonal Challenge or the Reading with Style challenge (or both!)
I hope this didn't make more confused!
Just to clarify, we can only claim ONE Big Book Ticket per 500 page, 750 page, and 1000 page category (so at the most, three big book tickets)? I've read several books between 500-750 pages, but I think I can only claim it once. Just checking! And, to confirm, this is different than the Goodreads Authors tickets which are unlimited.
Thanks!

I couldn't find the link about fitting books into a a certain task. I wanted to know if there was somewhere I can fit in "Dead In The Family". I looked through the tasks but I couldn't find anything that would fit.
Jayme wrote: "I couldn't find the link about fitting books into a a certain task. I wanted to know if there was somewhere I can fit in "Dead In The Family". I didn't check what you have already claimed so far but these would be possible fits.

4. Each task counts for points only ONCE and each book can only be used for one task.So that means you can't read BOTH "The Historian" and "The Golden Compass" and have it count for 20.10 - Group Reads?
But, what if you could fit one of the group reads into another category? Like, you could do The Golden Compass & The Subtle Knife for 25.2 (Fabulous firsts or superior seconds)? You would score it only on 25.2 but I'm assuming your discussion would still be welcome in the group read thread?
I have a question about goodreads authors. An author I have previously read for this challenge has just joined goodreads. Do I retroactively get points(or the ticket things) for reading her books? Or if I read one here on out, would I then count it?
Julia wrote: "I have a question about goodreads authors. An author I have previously read for this challenge has just joined goodreads. Do I retroactively get points(or the ticket things) for reading her books? ..."You can get the retroactive credit.
Paige—that's correct! And of COURSE you can discuss! :) Okay, great! :D
For two-part challenges (read book A and book B), do we have to read them back to back or can we read them at any point during the challenge and still collect credit?
And also, for the purpose of challenges that ban "juvenile fiction," is that the same genre as "young adult" or are they different? I know my library separates them but most of the time I can hardly tell the difference.

You can read them at separate times but can't collect credit until both parts are done. I.E. you can't get 1/2 points for completing partial tasks.
As for the other it depends on who created the task - you will need to check with them and see what their definition is.
I'm on MS ANDERSON's 50 POINT MIDWAY TASK - LUCK BE A LADY, and I think I may be confused...My sum was 5, so "One of [my:] books must be a 5-star book from someone's list"
Is that the same thing as saying that it "must be 5-star" overall, and "must me on a list?"
I planned on reading (and have read now) "The Host", because I found it had some 5-star reviews, but now see that the overall stars are showing as 3-stars. Advice?
Mike wrote: "I'm on MS ANDERSON's 50 POINT MIDWAY TASK - LUCK BE A LADY, and I think I may be confused...My sum was 5, so "One of [my:] books must be a 5-star book from someone's list"
Ms. Anderson clarified the 5-star rule in post 74:
"It's a little too easy to let it be any book that someone rated 5 stars, since most books you can find one person who rated it 5. What I'm going to say (and what I'm doing for myself) is that it must be rated 5 by someone from a group you both are in. You don't need to have befriended that person or both be in SCR--just being in the same group is enough."
I'm pretty sure someone in this group gave The Host five-stars, hopefully they'll volunteer the information before you spend hours looking at everyone's "read" shelves.
Kathy wrote: "I'm new and wondering-- what are Big Ticket Books? What do you get for those? I'm green!"
Kathy, if you read a book of 500+ pages for a task and make a note of it in your posting, Cynthia will put your name into a Draw. The winner gets to choose a task in the next Challenge.
There's also a Draw for 750+ pages and one for 1000+ pages. (I think that's the page requirements. You'll have to check the Rules page to confirm)
It'a a recognization for taking the time to read larger books.
Liz wrote: "Mike wrote: "I'm on MS ANDERSON's 50 POINT MIDWAY TASK - LUCK BE A LADY, and I think I may be confused..."Went searching myself -- got someone that I share a group with who rated The Host with *****!
Thanks, Liz!
