Cait (caitertot) | 648 comments Cynthia,

My apologies if this has already been addressed. I am looking for clarification regarding task 15.8, specifically the part that says: Non-Fictional book about or featuring your favorite artist
Ex.Sunflowers OR Mary Cassatt

My absolute favorite artist is John William Waterhouse. There are a scarcity of books solely about him. Do I have the option of reading a book or two about the Pre-Raphaelites, which include Waterhouse? I still hope to find something at my local B&N or Borders, but I wanted to know if this was an option in the event that I can't.

Thank you!

As long as the book includes a good amount about that artist I would accept that.

I will be doing stats for the winter challenge...I've just had a couple of really busy weeks at work and some internet connection issues at home. If I can get caught up on updating the readerboard I'll try to get them up this weekend.

Yay! I like checking out the stats, too. But I didn't want to sound like I was nagging 'cause I SO appreciate all the work you do for this challenge.

Ashley FL | 721 comments For 15.10, could I read The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom, A Toltec Wisdom Book?? The book is definitely the personal philosophy I try to embrace, but the title itself isn't very descriptive, and I'm not sure if it counts as classic "philosphy"?

Thanks :)

You should post this in the task help thread for that task.

If the regular print hardcover copy version of the book is 500+, 750+, or 1000+ pages and you listen to it on audio I will accept it for the big books ticket.

Abigail | 315 comments Cynthia, for 5.9, could I read a bunch of children's books in bed with my kids for a total of 100 pages? Or do I have to read it in my own bed?

message 115: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (sandra72) | 714 comments Question about 15.10...

Yes that sounds good.

Abigail wrote: "Cynthia, for 5.9, could I read a bunch of children's books in bed with my kids for a total of 100 pages? Or do I have to read it in my own bed?"

It's a 5 pointer so there isn't actually a page requirement...but yes that would be fine as long as you are actually in bed that's the point.

message 117: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 2221 comments I had a general question about number of pages. I am vision impaired so always try to get large print books from the library. Should I be using the page numbers from the LP books for my totals? So far I have been looking up what the #'s are for regular print books. I was just wondering.

message 118: by Ashley FL (new)

Ashley FL | 721 comments Since it seems that Ms. Anderson will hit 930 before the mid-point, and thus be the person who designs the 50 point task, will it be posted when she sends it to you, or do you wait until the mid-point? This is just a technical question, not specific to this challenge. I was just wondering!

Which I guess begs the question: if the first finisher/ highest point person at the mid-point has already designed one of the tasks for that challenge, do you go to the first person on the list who hasn't already designed a task? Or does one person end up with two tasks?

Sheila - Just out of curiosity, is there usually a big difference in the number of pages between the two versions? Are any of them right around 100 pages?

This has happened before Roseann completed the challenge pre-midway and I just posted the task as soon as I received it. It doesn't matter if a person has a task already in the challenge because those are based on performance in the previous whereas the 50 pointer is based on performance in the current challenge.

Sheila wrote: "I had a general question about number of pages. I am vision impaired so always try to get large print books from the library. If you generally read the large print books and aren't using the large print solely to reach a page requirement then that's fine to go by those numbers.

Agnes I'm new, and I think I've read the information, but I can't figure out when to post that I've read something, when to start posting (five points, ten points) and so on. Is there a spot I've missed that will tell me these things...and I really am sorry if this is somewhere very obvious.

You can post whenever you have a task completed. Welcome to your newest addiction!

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1114 comments You can post every time you finish a task or once a week or whenever you get around to it... (You know to post over in the "Completed Tasks" thread, right?)

I sent the task to Cynthia, but until she gets back, it won't get posted (and that's assuming, of course, that all of my books check out (they should. I'm pretty anal about stuff like that)). I'm excited to see what everyone thinks of it--I'm kind of proud of it myself! lol

message 132: by Sara ♥ (new)

Deedee | 2352 comments Hi! I have a question about 15.9. I recently found out that fantasy writer Michelle West is the same person as romantic fantasy writer Michelle Sagara. Which name is the pseudonym? From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michelle... Michelle Sagara < has published as Michelle Sagara (her legal name), as Michelle West (her husband's surname), and as Michelle Sagara West > I'd suspect that Michelle Sagara is her *real* name, as that is her legal name, which would make Michelle West her pseudonym. Right??? Thanks!

You are correct if Sagara is her legal name anything else would be a pseudonym.

Caz | 27 comments Hi, I'm guessing this is a no, and sorry if its already been covered, but for 10.4 (reduce, reuse, recycle) would giving the book back to the library, count as giving it to someone else to read? Its just I don't buy books very often, and obviously I can't give library books to someone else to read...
Thanks :) x

Jackie, you can start anywhere you like and work in any order you want, including the 50 pointer. (The 50 pointer task was chosen by the person who was the farthest along at mid-point--except this time we had a person who finished at the end of March.)

message 142: by Caz (new)

Caz | 27 comments Hi Cynthia,
Thanks for your quick response to my previous question.
Just out of interest, when will the summer challenge list go up? As I have only just found out about this challenge, I am wondering whether to make a start, and know I won't do all that well, or just wait until the summer challenge and work hard over the summer and get through as many challenges as possible, am currently leaning towards the latter...
I know the challenge starts June 1st but just wondering when the list goes up? xx

message 143: by Ashley FL (new)

Ashley FL | 721 comments If history holds, the beginning of the list will go up about 2 weeks before the Challenge starts, but it won't be final until some time after it starts (as people get their tasks in). Be forewarned that if you have read more than 50% of a book before the first day of the challenge (12:01am on June 1st), you can't count it for that Challenge. IOW, you can't read ahead. Does that make sense?

I know this was totally confusing for me when I started!

You still have half of the time left on this one, and can count anything you've read since March 1st (if it fits), so I'd start with this one, even if it's just "practice".

Louvaine | 98 comments Not really sure where to put this--is anybody planning on participating in International Book Day on April 23rd? I'm going to participate- I've read so many really good books for this challenge, it will be tough to choose.

Karen | 39 comments Please help me figure out where to use Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace... One School at a Time by Greg Mortenson! I thought about using it for the Asian-Pacific challenge since Pakistan is in Asia and the book is about "The Central Asia Institute." But - I realized the main character is not really from Asia. Many of the characters are from Pakistan...but not the main one. I loved this book! I just need to know where to use it! I might use it under "Friends of Friends."

I'm sure it was probably mentioned in a Goodreads newsletter (5.4) at some point, though I haven't looked myself. Unless, of course, you've fulfilled that particular task already.

You could pass it on to a friend as in the third part of 10.4.

Is the title somehow related to your personal philosophy as in 15.10?

Isn't that Mortenson's first book? Could you then read the second book and use them both for Task 25.2?

message 148: by El (new)

El Amaranthine Night, you can use YA titles for any task unless stated otherwise in the task criteria. Leora's task doesn't say you can't use YA, so I would think you're okay. Of course it still needs to be determined by Leora since it is her task - you might send her a personal message.
