For 5.9- much as I would love to spend a day in bed reading, dd is autistic and doesn't believe in sleep! Can I make the time up by going to bed an hour earlier every night for a week to read?

You could read every day for an hour in bed until you finished it.

To clarify: for the Friend of Friend part of Task 15.6, must the book be book you never read? I am trying not to reread for the most part this challenge and my current top friend of a friend has only given 5 stars to books I have already read. Must I re-read one, or can I skip to the next person? Thanks!
Nicole wrote: "To clarify: for the Friend of Friend part of Task 15.6, must the book be book you never read? Nicole wrote: "Thanks, Cynthia. My issue actually resolved itself since my list changed yet again!" This was a task I went ahead and locked in by starting a book yesterday -- my list kept changing!! I'm glad I did because when I checked today, it had changed yet again!
Jayme wrote: "I have a question, where do we put our completed tasks? I don't see a link for that."Cynthia usually puts it up at the time the challenge starts... so in like 8 hours it should be posted.
Angie wrote: "Isn't 5.7 and 20.3 pretty much the same task??"Developmental disabilities are different from mental health issues. The first would be things like Down's Syndrome, autism, Aspberger's Syndrome etc. The second would be things like depression, anorexia, anxiety, manic depressiveness, bipolar disorder.
Am I explaining that correctly, Cynthia?
Ohhhh ok got it. Great I've got a perfect book for that. Thanks for clarifying :)Ooh one more for task 10.8 can it be a book about travelling thru space and time. Like a sci-fi book or does it have to be like astronauts and outer space type space book?

Many, including myself, are reading The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, so traveling through space and time works. I think.
Awesome, thanks so much for the answers and the quick responses. I'm getting all my books together now. I love these challenges :)
Angie wrote: "Awesome, thanks so much for the answers and the quick responses. I'm getting all my books together now. I love these challenges :)"Not a problem. I am all excited and can't seem to tear myself away from Goodreads. But I need to get some sleep now before I end up staying up until 12 and finishing a book for the challenge!

haha I'm with you, I haven't even had dinner yet and it's almost 9. Good night and good luck :)
Nicole wrote: "Many, including myself, are reading The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, so traveling through space and time works. I think."If you like audiobooks at all, I HIGHLY recommend this book on audio, read by Stephen Fry. AMAZING and HILARIOUS.
Errr... and I'm totally addicted to. I was on here until 1:30 last night, when I knew I was going to have to get up at about 6:15... EEK!
Cynthia, I posted this question in the task help for task 5.7 (developmental disabilities) but haven't gotten an answer yet. Can you help please?Okay, I can't be the only person wondering this... Would any of the Millenium books count (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire)? I don't think it is stated outright but it is strongly implied that the girl in question has Aspergers (sp?)
Melissa wrote: "Cynthia, I posted this question in the task help for task 5.7 (developmental disabilities) but haven't gotten an answer yet. Can you help please?Okay, I can't be the only person wondering this......"
If its obvious this is her condition yes I'll take them.
For 10.8 (the space task), could I read Extremes by Kristine Kathryn Rusch? It takes place on the Moon. In the first book of the series, there is some space travel. I'm not sure if there is actual space travel in this one but in the "universe" created for the series, there is a lot of space travel and the characters will definitely have traveled in space. Thanks!

For 10.10 Would The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo count as an accessory? I know it might be a bit of a stretch but I thought it definitely is eternal style. Also for 25.4 Does the name in the title have to be a first name? I borrowed The True and Outstanding Adventures of the Hunt Sisters for the last challenge and am now having trouble figuring out where to fit it into this one.
Thanks!
Dear Cynthia, long time no speak!. after my long stint in challenge rehab i may dip my toe in again for this one if that ok.Question is for the fashion one - is perfume considered an accessory. . i bow to the ladies in here
also for 25.8 , could you check up on Wolf Brother for me, it is basically about a stone age boy and a wolf who considers him to be part of his pack, they communicate to each other in howls etc. anyway, large parts of the book are in 'wolf-person' as it were, so from the wolfs perspective, his thoughts etc etc. so not narrated by as in hes not telling his own story but more wolf thought this, wold tried to tell the boy this..if you know what i mean.
Jon wrote: "Dear Cynthia, long time no speak!. after my long stint in challenge rehab i may dip my toe in again for this one if that ok.Question is for the fashion one - is perfume considered an accessory. ...."
Hi Jon - welcome back - sorry I don't consider perfume an accessory and as far as 25.8 goes you should post your question in help thread for that task so Helen can decide on that book.
This may have already been asked so I am sorry if I am repeating a question but are we still doing the draws for next challenge? Like birthday, new member, etc.?
Angie wrote Ooh one more for task 10.8 can it be a book about travelling thru space and time. Like a sci-fi book or does it have to be like astronauts and outer space type space book?I posted this in the other thread, but did not get a response, so I thought I would post it here... Can the book be about traveling through time or does the space part have to be included?
For instance I wanted to read The Best Gift
I have a question about 10.3 - The Luck of the Irish. Is there any way we could use "Saint" or the abbreviation "St.?" I really want to read Evensong by M.L . St. Sure ,and I can't find a good place to use the book in the challenge this time!
Karen wrote: "I really want to read Evensong by M.L . St. Sure ,and I can't find a good place to use the book in the challenge this time!"5.9 Read in Bed - if you haven't already started reading it, it can go here.
10.4 Recycle - do you own this book? can you loan it to someone else?
10.2 - Three/Four/Five - Again, if you haven't started reading it, keep checking the book page. It is currently rated 3.46, but it might dip down to 3.45 or 3.44.
10.6 Oscars - Are there enough similarities in themes/time to Inglourious Basterds?
15.10 - "Face the facts of being what you are..." - do you admire the protagonist? Are her actions aligned with your personal philosophy?
25.3 - Coralie's Task - Coming Out Of Hibernation - Are you planning on attending any kind of live musical performance soon?
25.5 - Leora's Task - Spring Cleaning - If you own this book, did you buy it before March 1?
30.5 - PJ Reads' Task - As Suggested By Tanja - Six Degrees of Separation - Any book in you tbr can be used for this task.
Karen wrote: "I have a question about 10.3 - The Luck of the Irish. Is there any way we could use "Saint" or the abbreviation "St.?" I really want to read Evensong by [author:M.L . St. Sure|971119..."Sorry not St. just forms of Pat for that tasks.

Yes

I posted t..." It needs to be travel in space.
Wow! Thanks Liz! I didn't think of those options! I am kind of new to this - so I appreciate the help!
>grin< my pleasure. It's kind of a game for me to make sure every book I read fits two or more tasks, so I can shuffle them around when in the third month my bookclub decides to read something that only fits one task.
Erin wrote: "Hi Cynthia, I was just wondering when task 20.5 would be posted. Thanks!"
As soon as I receive the task from Melaine.
LOl, I was going to ask the same thing, Erin. Not that I am lacking for tasks to work on, but I am OCDing about completing my plan, lol!
Just curious how long we give someone to post their task and also what to do if someone has not been on their thread to answer any questions about their task? Not trying to a pain or anything, but Rosanne's task has a lot of unanswered questions.I too an not lacking for tasks to work on and I am also OCDing about getting all my books prepared. I have to request most from the library since I do not own a lot of books.
There is no "fitting a book" thread yet, so I will ask it here (hope that is ok) Where can I fit "Heat Wave" ostensibly by the fictional Rick Castle?
Angela wrote: "Just curious how long we give someone to post their task and also what to do if someone has not been on their thread to answer any questions about their task? Not trying to a pain or anything, but ..."I do know Melaine got my note about being selected because she messaged me so hopefully I'll hear back soon. I know Roseanne has recently started a master's program so is really busy. I don't check the member designed task help threads as often as I generally leave it up to the players who designed them to answer but if questions aren't answered please feel free to post them here as I always check this thread.
ughhhh i laboured over my task list books for days, trying to figure out what to put where. This is the first challenge that I'm actively doing that. So i thought I had everything figured out till I realized that my library doesn't have half the books! Rookie Mistake! Next time I'll remember to search the library catalogue instead of the Task Help section... =(
What happens if you have read all of the group picks for the season? I might not finish the challenge, but I'd like to know just in case. I really don't want to reread something when I have so many books on my shelf.
This is the first time I've participated, and I was wondering about the tasks requiring us to post something - a short review, a haiku, etc. Where are we supposed to post them? In the "tasks completed" section along with the report that we've read the book? or in the thread for that challenge?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Sandy wrote: "This is the first time I've participated, and I was wondering about the tasks requiring us to post something - a short review, a haiku, etc. Where are we supposed to post them?"In the "Spring Challenge 2010 Completed Tasks" thread along with:
A. The title/author of the book (or a link to that book).
B. What task it is for (either a description of the task or the number associated with the tasks (exe. 5 point task number 3).
C. Also if the task involves an activity (a required review or watching a related film) details of that activity MUST also be posted.
D. If it is written by a good reads author or you wish to use it as an entry in the big book contest you must also indicate this in your post. (See the rules for further information about this)
