April is National Poetry Month. For this task read a collection of poetry (Must be at least 75 pages). When posting this write and share with the group an original Haiku.

If you need suggestions OR have suggestions for books to read for this task post them here.

Ruby (rubina310) For the second part of this task, we write our own Haiku and post it? Or find one and post it?

My understanding is that we have to write one ourselves.

Ruby (rubina310) gulp.

Donna Jo Atwood | 3157 comments Ruby, Haiku isn't all that difficult--at least it doesn't have to rhyme.

message 10: by Jenna (new)

Jenna | 84 comments Yeah, haiku is pretty easy. I think there are only 3 lines, and each line has a specific number of syllables.

Oooh, so does Eugene Onegin: A Novel in Verse work?

I have somehow acquired three copies of this book; I think my subconscious really wants me to read it.

message 14: by Shannon (new)

Shannon I found this on the internet on how to write a haiku:

"What is a haiku? The haiku originated in Japan and is a verse (poem) written in three lines. The haiku does not rhyme. Instead, the haiku sets a mood or portrays a feeling or scenery.
The entire haiku is composed in 17 syllables. The first line contains five syllables, the second line has seven syllables, and the third and final line has five syllables. 5-7-5.
Here is an example:

Old tomcat sitting (5 syllables)
Watching autumn leaves blow by (7 syllables)
Wishing they were mice (5 syllables)"

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Thanks again Tanja xx

Read this last year and loved it.

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 1341 comments I might have to find it at my library. I never focused solely on the poems. Now's a good opportunity!

Sarah (Mood Reader) (bookworm1887) | 467 comments Do we have to read one book made up of a 75 pages or can we read different books made up of 75 pages?

If you read several small books that add up to at least 75 pages I would accept that but you can't pick and choose 75 pages out of larger volumes.
