She should be doing a study on dolphins. She aspires to be a marine biologist because of said biology teacher.
I like both of your suggestions, but she's really into photography, so maybe she's kind of obsessed with birds or something? Like, she takes a lot of pictures of them and she studies them a lot? It's not like she lives really near the ocean. Or a decent aquarium.
