Apmom2c | 11 comments I apologize if this has been discussed before. It appears that Sookie's mind reading abilities are clearly genetic since her nephew can also read minds. Now, it doesn't seem 100% clear that it's due to her fairy blood but this is still a possibility. So it seems there could be too possibilities in regards to Barry. Either:

a.) Mind reading is genetic (but not related to fairy blood) so possibly Barry and Sookie are related somehow?

b.) Mind reading is related to fairy blood, which means that Barry is part fairy. This would lead to a few different possibilities but maybe he could even be related to one of the "bad" fairies even though they supposedly don't reproduce with humans.

Lissa1229 | 57 comments If I had to choose it would be a. In one of the books someone (Pam?) says its not a fairy trait.
My theory was that it might be from her mother's side.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) It woukld be interesting if Barry and Sookie were related but didn't know it.

Cary (vortigern) Allot of Harris world is contradictory. Vampires can read & control human minds. But Sookie cannot read theirs. In Dracula Mina can see into Draculas mind because they have had blood exchange. Harris kinda writes willy nilly sometimes. The books are great. But they have some contradicorty errors and they are not near as good as the single story classics.

Apmom2c | 11 comments Ok, maybe I didn't remember this correctly but I thought they said that they didn't know of anyone who had the mindreading thing due to fairy blood but it wasn't impossible either? I just read all the books this past week but I did read them pretty quickly so I could be wrong...

I don't get the feeling it's just a coincidence since I think Barry's going to appear again especially with these FBI agents sniffing around. Plus, Stan keeps popping up (or getting mentioned) so I think we'll see them again.

message 6: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) We were debating this on another board and we found that Pam says she doesn't think it's the fairy blood, since she's met many with fae ancestry, but none with Sookie's gift.
Someone mentioned Claudine or Niall discussing the origins too, but I haven't looked up the convo yet.

I think it's all up in the air! But since it's been pondered by the characters, I hope we'll get an answer.

It would be crazy if she's somehow related to Barry!

message 7: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) Stan was the guy Amellia turned into a Cat? I think he has probably had enough of funky sex,LOL. I wonder if Stan knew he was a cat while he was a cat? He had a cat girlfriend if I remember right. Now that would be plain wierd if you where thinking with a human mind. Charlaine is pretty kinky. te hee.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) That was Bob. Stan is the vampire in Dallas.

message 9: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) Oh the King of Dallas. It's been awhile since I read those books. Sure they are going to have him back. He is King of one of the most wealthy & powerful vampire realms. Matter of fact now that the Vegas gang has Louisiana & Arkansas. Seeing how ruthless & power hungry their king is. I see war looming between him and Dallas. Which is disturbing because all the vamps we have come to like are in the Vegas Gang now. I really liked Sophie Anne DeClerque in the books. I hope Eric and crew work out a revolt with Stans help and take Louisiana & Ark back and make Eric king. Then send Don Carlos or whoever back to Vegas in a box with a stake.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) hehehe, but there is one problem to your plan. Eric doesn't want to be King of Louisiana.

message 11: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) How do you know that? Your probably right. Givin that Eric has a sweet gig as Sherif without the worries of a King. Who not only has much responsibility but also have to fear assasination and political intrigue. Eric is more hedonistic, and into having fun. Well we shall see. Maybe Stan will make an empire of Texas, Ark, and Louisiana. Like TexArkana which is already a designated area consisting of the three states.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) I read it in one of the books. i think Sookie asks in Dead and Gone when the Las Vegas vampires were taking over. I think she asked Eric if he wanted to be King and he said no.

message 13: by Megan (new)

Megan I remember reading that too, can't remember where thou

message 14: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) Well concidering what a sweet gig he has at Fangtasia, and what happened to Sophie Anne. Your undoubtetly right. But Stan seems like the kind of guy who would take it on. To enlarge his own Kingdom, and ensure his safety from the agressive Vegas war lord/King. Hitting Sophie Anne when she was down. With her legs blown off and recovering. Was a serious low blow, and the act of a power crazed gangster with no class. I don't care about the airs Don Carlos puts on. He is just a punk hood. Sophie (book Sophie) had way more class.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) I liked Sophie Anne, in the book and in the series. I really don't trust Stan.

message 16: by Siempre (new)

Siempre (josiehaustin) | 91 comments I thought Stan was originally the sheriff of Dallas then the King of Texas? Is there a King for each city? Just wondering as far as the whole Barry and Sookie thing I am not sure but it is interesting how everything seems to weave together.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) These a king for each state. Stan is the sheriff for a specific area like area 4 and say area 4 is Dallas. Then there is a king or queen of a state. There can be one or two sheriffs per state that serve under the king or queen.

message 18: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) Plus the King/Queen is also a sheriff (remember Eric telling Sookie that?) So that's why he was sheriff of Dallas AND King of Texas. Altho Sookie didn't know that at the time she went there. Or, possibly he became King afterwards, there isn't really any explaination for why he's shown as King later, but only as the sheriff before.

message 19: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) Especially since he was so injured at Rhodes that he shouldn't be leading any coups.

message 20: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) You know--I was re-reading (getting ready for the NEXT one) and a thought occurred to me about Barry. Remember, Niall had TWIN sons by his human lover. Perhaps Barry is descended from the other son. Or from another one of Sookie's Grandfather's human lovers. Since Niall did mention that his son didn't stint himself if he saw a human female he wanted. . . So, maybe Barry and Sookie are kinfolk.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) that thought had occurred to me.
