Hi everyone. :) I'm Chantelle - another addicted reader who has the added benefit of teaching reading to sixth graders, so I get to read at work, too! :)Hmm...my favorite comfort read is probably Gone With the Wind. If I want something lighter I'll pick up a Nora Roberts/JD Robb book - and it usually doesn't matter which one. I do love her Born in Fire/Ice/Shame series, though.
I'm glad to be here and I'm looking forward to checking out everyone's shelves. :)
Hi, Chantelle. Welcome to the group! I just received and replied to your message. I haven't checked out out your shelves yet, but plan to do so.Hi Wendy, Welcome to the group. I do have a feeling you have found your "comfortable" group!
Hiya! I just found this group the other day and thought it was a fantastic idea. I have a vast collection of "comfort reads" that I turn to again and again, and reading is my great escape, when I need one. Perfect!I'm 30, from Pittsburgh, I have 3 cats (but alas am not currently living with them -- I moved here, they are in MI with my DH until we sort out an apartment that allows them here), am married (see previous! but we at least visit 1-2x/month), like knitting and gardening... what else? Reading, of course!
Hi, Jennie. Glad you joined us. Will look forward to seeing you post about some of your vast collection of comfort read books.

May I be so bold as to ask about your Tolkein tattoos? And what part of MI are the cats and husband in? :) (I moved this from the favorite book list post....)

Sure! One is a simple Elvish script near the base of my neck, and the other is a sketch he did of a bird amidst branches and flowers. I'm not familiar enough with the boards here to know how to add images yet or I would!Southeast MI, near Ann Arbor. I'm hoping to go for a visit for Easter.
I grew up in and around Detroit, but now I'm in Iowa. I'll see if I can google the bird sketch. I'm too chicken to get a tatoo, but I think a lot of people get Elvish and I think it looks pretty cool. :)
Lee wrote: "Hi Jennie and welcome to the group. I don't see any tattoos, am I missing something?"
Jennie mentioned her tattoos on the thread where you list your 10 favorite comfort reads books, but I didn't want to clog that thread with general chat, so I brought the tattoo question to this thread. I am learning to be tidy. :)

I'm surprised, it was required reading for me in grade nine, I struggled over the book and then read it again in my first year of Uni (I can't remember the compulsion) but I enjoyed it a lot more the second time.
You won't be let down when you do get the chance to read it, I promise.

Hi everyone!
Because of work and my boss is also putting me through school, I don't have time for anything less than comfort reads. Right now I am sticking just to comfort authors like Lara Adrian, Kelley Armstrong, Jodi Picoult and others I am sure, I just can't think of them right now... I have papers on the brain...
When I am not reading, I'm working on my Early Childcare degree, or working at the Daycare, or at home with my hubby cooking or running.
I look forward to seeing other peoples comfort lists!
I am sure that I will be adding to my TBR for when the westcoast winter rains come back.

Welcome to the group, Ms. Erin.Yes, check all the discussion threads and our bookshelves too for ideas!
And, when/if you have time, post about some of your favorite books from those authors you mentioned. Thanks!
Hi Ms. Erin! Welcome to the group. I do have a battered old copy I bought second hand around here somewhere and will definitely be reading it soon.
I'm pretty sure we are talking about To Kill a Mockingbird right? LOL, I was too lazy to go back and find where that post came from.

Hey everyone. I'm Ashley and I am 23 yrs old, 24 in May. I love to read. I am a total bookaholic. I mainly read YA novels. Other things I like to do are write, hang out with friends and family, exercise, got to the movies, etc.
Hi everyone,I'm Lynn from Scotland, known often by the nickname chuckles or chucklesthescot.I'm 36,a book addict who can't stay out of charity shops, collects postcards, makes news scrapbooks, loves penpalling and when I'm not reading I chill out with DVDs or my Wii games. I've been into horror and UF books for so long, but since joining bookcrossing.com in February 2009,I'm pleased to say that it has opened my eyes to so many new authors and books that I never would have tried!I'm always looking for recommendations and reading reviews by other people to find new stuff to read so this group looked like a great place to start!I've discovered I enjoy historical fiction especially The Tudors, stories based in China, war zones and the Middle East and lots of general fiction.Hopefully I'll discover more as I go along.
My biggest comfort read has to be Harry Potter...I just love to retreat into worlds that are more interesting than the one I'm in!
Hi Lynn and welcome! That's quite a list you have, so I'm sure you'll find lots of good recommendations in the posts here! :)
Welcome Ashley and Lynn! I used to use bookcrossing, but then found paperbackswap (that's just a better fit for me). But I love book sharing/trading too.
Thanks for the welcome everyone and hi to Ashley!I find books in general to be a real comfort...just the feeling you get when you lift a new book and wonder where it is going to take you...
I am so excited to find a group of readers that read what I read! I recently moved to a new town for a new job for my husband. In this transition, I went from a super busy part-time teacher to full time housewife, and I am bored. (I hate housework, and a good book is always a good excuse for skipping it!) So I've been reading alot lately. Hopefully ya'll can give me some good recommendations to check out.
Hi Kim! Welcome to the group. Join us in "Just to Chat" when being in the house is getting on your nerves! I'm sure you'll find lots of new books in the posts and on the shelves. :)
Welcome Kim! As Jeannette said, there's always someone around to chat with here and you'll find plenty of good books and reviews to read at Goodreads.
Welcome to the group, Kim. I'm glad that you found us and hope you find many books to read that appeal to you.
My cousin Val introduced me to Goodreads and I have been on this site for 10 days ever since I barged right in with a list of my favorite comfort books because I was so excited! Mea Culpa. So let me introduce myself properly. I am 68 years old, a retired ER Nurse, live in Boise, ID, as does my son, his wife and my two grandchildren. I am a HUGE fan of the Boise Bronco's football team. We have skiing, snowboarding, hiking, fishing, running, etc., NONE of which I do. I LOVE to read and have 32 bookcases in my house (of varying sizes) - partly being a result of being a failed bookseller. I read everything from all types of fiction, history, Holocaust memoirs, mysteries, World War I and II, young adult, books from my childhood. etc. I run a Mystery Bookclub which meets every two weeks where we rarely fail to disagree - but's it's fun! I also normally clean my house on a regular basis but since I discovered Goodreads, I think I will have to hire a maid! My real name is Kathryn Maude but when I put Kathy (which people call me) on my site I kept getting another Kathy's books on it. It was such a problem I was going to give up until I had the powers that be change my name to Maude which is working quite well. It was my grandmother's name. However, I am still getting used to it and every time I see Kathy's post, I think it's for me!
Kathy/Maude, There was a temporary glitch with member mix ups. You might consider changing your name again and seeing how it goes if you'd rather be called Kathy.
Lisa wrote: "Kathy/Maude, There was a temporary glitch with member mix ups. You might consider changing your name again and seeing how it goes if you'd rather be called Kathy."Not at all! I love being Maude. I feel like a spy.

Hi chucklesthescot! Nice to see you here too! And Happy Easter! I'm up early, but I hear the family rising, so I'm off to "torque up" the coffe pot!

Hi Maude, wow 32 bookcases!I thought I was doing well with 7 stuffed in my bedroom!I had a choice this spring to either get rid of the wardrobe or get rid of a bookcase-so my clothes are now in a cardboard box under my bed!Well you just can't leave the books homeless can you!

That is funny! (or sad). I'm not much into clothes myself, either. :)

Hi everyone. I once read an article about a man who lived in a huge room with books in stacks reaching to the ceiling. In the middle, there was a space for his chair and a lamp where he sat all the time and read. One day the books fell and killed him. The morale of this story: Bookcases are good!

Or is it: Don't turn your back on your books? :)

Welcome to all the newbies! I'm a bit behind on reading posts, but wanted to say hi. :)

Discovered this group randomly, just joined it, just joined Goodreads, love reading!
Dominique, Thanks for joining us. Welcome to the group, and to Goodreads too. I love Goodreads and this group, and I hope that you will also.
