PF O'Friar (wineamyhouse) Mine story is not interesting.
I just found him because he was just bellow Stephen King in fantasticfiction
as the most similar :D
lol

message 256: by E. (new)

E. I read Lightening a loooong time ago because Koontz was next to King at the book store. I never read another until someone loaned me Odd Thomas several years ago. I read the whole series and then about 20 more by Koontz.

I will be re-reading Lightning again soon :-)

Cyl (alohacyl) | 8 comments Only recently with the movie "Odd Thomas." My brother told me that before I saw the movie I had to read the first book by Dean Koontz. That first book had me and though I've not read many of Dean Koontz's books, his Odd Thomas series had held me captivated.

Awesome! :-) Welcome to the world of Dean Koontz Cyl!

message 261: by Charissa (new)

Charissa Wilkinson (lilmizflashythang) | 272 comments Honestly, I would run across Dean Koontz novels and would avoid them. I was afraid that they would be too much like Stephen King (can't stand the guy), but then, I kept running across reviews that ripped Mr. Koontz for being too hopeful. That kind of sold me on the writer, and my first book was "What the Night Knows." Been hooked ever since, and with only a couple of downer novels.

Lightning was the first Koontz book I read as well. I can remember hiding that book in my school book in eighth grade and was hooked immediately as well! Just wish I liked Odd Thomas as much as everyone else does because I've read everything else!!

message 264: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 486 comments Rebecca......I am a huge DK fan and I like the Odd books but they are nowhere near my favorite of his books so don't feel bad about that!!! He has wonderful books to choose from!!!

message 265: by Xen (new)

Xen Randell (xeniya) | 2 comments My mom was/is a fan of SK and DK, I was 12 when I finally convinced her that I'm not too young for DK (was watching horror movies since very, very young), so I grabbed the Watchers. The rest is history. My Golden Retriever was not named Einstein only cause it would be weird to yell after him at the park "Eins, come back here you mutt!" :D

message 266: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 486 comments ;D
I can never remember if Watchers or Phantoms was my 1st DK book.....it was one of those.....in my late teens or very early 20's. I don't think I will ever not read DK.....I do wish he would return to his earlier style but I guess an artist grows and he seems to be fascinated recently with humanity and a "State of Grace" theme. I will still buy his books!!! Stephen King after scaring everyone by saying he was retiring has come back strong the last few years and showing his phenomenal story telling talent again!!!

Thank you Joss :-) Although Watchers was my first introduction to Dean Koontz, Velocity is the one that really hooked me & nailed me down as a Dean Koontz fan.

Jessi Rose (unlivedlife) | 3 comments My mama always loved Dean Koontz. She always keeps a few of his books in her closet. That's how I was introduced to him. I was going through Netflix one day was saw a movie called Odd Thomas. From that first moment, I was obsessed. Bought all the books, read them right away. They are some of the greatest works of art I've ever read.

Click on the book. Underneath you will see want to read, reading or read. Click on that and move books to read. Or currently reading Are all of yours set as want to read. Once you change a book to read you have the option to rate it and write a review. Hope that helps.

message 285: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 486 comments Diane. I have done that and the app tells me I have too many books and need to "shelve" them. I can't figure out how to move the books to a shelf I created.....lol. I will keep trying
Thanks

Barbara, if you're in an app (and if it's anything like my Android Goodreads app), then you need to go to each individual book and "change shelves" from their individual screens.

The other way to do it is to rescan them all, only this time choose the "scan multiples" and set which shelves you want your books to go on. I do this when I have multiple books for my "PCPL checked out" shelf (library books) or "gifted to nieces" shelf.

I hope this helps! :-)

message 287: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 486 comments Thank you Jen...... I think I moved read books to another shelf and now I'm trying to figure out how to move them out of the "read" shelf. LOL
technically challenged over here!!!

If you've read them, you don't need to move them to a different shelf. You can just create new shelves to help you sort the books. For instance, I have books on "read" and "horror" shelves, or "read" and "thriller."

You can also clear your scanned books from the "Scan" page. This option is in the "Scan History" section, which is below the "Scan Many Books" section.

(That is, the above is true if your app is like my Android app.)

message 289: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 486 comments Thanks Jen. I have the iPhone app so not sure if they are the same. I will look for scan history.

Diane Lynch (dianedesmarrstlynch) | 486 comments Barbara wrote: "Thanks Jen. I have the iPhone app so not sure if they are the same. I will look for scan history."

Go to the page that lists the places you can go on your iPhone Goodreads. On the bottom of the phone click on the thing all the way to the right. The paragraph of lines. When that list comes up go to Settings. The last choice. When you choose that and go to the very bottom of the screen you will see FAQ and you can submit a question. We don't have that scan and create shelves as far as I know.

message 291: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 486 comments Thanks Diane
I managed to create a shelf and I don't know how I did it!!! Lol
I'm not sure I successfully moved all the books I wanted too and I have not tried scanning any again. I have been enjoying chatting with all of you here and work.....work has been tough.....I worked 16 hrs Friday and that's double my usual day. Yay!!!

message 292: by Christopher (new)

Christopher Jones | 47 comments My first Koontz books were as follows. The Husband, Prodigal Son, Odd Thomas, Darkest Evening Of The Year.

PS and Odd were good. The Husband and Darkest Evening were awful, with stupid idiotic villains that can't be taken seriously. With Darkest Evening, especially, Koontz builds up the entire story telling us how evil and scary these villains are but they get shot in less than two pages. It's lame.

I've read Forever Odd and Brother Odd; but Lightning, which I read a couple years ago, was the only one to make me think GOSH DARN THIS IS AWESOME. Now, I've sampled many of his works in the Good Reads preview section, and its no question that his earlier work interests me more.
