Maha Mirza (moonlight_0416) | 10 comments How do you find this book? I started reading it and stopped at pg # 401 out of 700. It just didn't intrigued me. I am a die-hard fan of horror and mystery, and people who read this book say it's so far one one of the best works by Stephen King. I wanted to know should I continue or just drop it???

Lindz (miss_bovary00) This book terrified me!!!! Continue with it. I have to admit it is a little up and down. But I loved the idea behind it.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Maha, are you new to King? I know in the other thread you were saying that you are reading The Talisman too.

King is very descriptive, and he tells stories about people. By the time his stories are done, you will know the characters, and oftentimes a whole town, inside and out.

If you're looking for non-stop action, IT probably isn't the best one to choose, because a big, big chunk of that book talks about the characters' backgrounds and lives.

I'd go for maybe Pet Sematary, The Shining, The Stand, Salem's Lot, The Dark Half or Desperation, although they all have their background descriptive moments too.

IT can be very slow-moving. But it's worth it...

Maha Mirza (moonlight_0416) | 10 comments Actually I have read "Salem's lot" and "The dark Half" and some others by Stephen King so it made me read his other works too. I started "The Talisman" and I find it quite nice.

Claire (clairebear8) | 514 comments I agree that The Shining is more action packed and moves fast and is very scary! If you haven't read that, I recommend it.

message 7: by Tina (new)

Tina Callaghan (tinacallaghan) IT is a marvellous book. Stephen shows us the magic that children have below the sightline of adults. This is a wonderful view of how children form friendships that are as important as life and death. As always with the best horror stories, the human condition is illuminated through the extremes offered by the plot. I love IT. Dead Zone is still my favourite though!

"It" was my first adult novel. My mother was a Stephen King lover and I stole it from her shelf one day and dug in. It was terrifying at parts. And really slow and bogged down at others. But overall, it really is one of King's gems.

I have loved others like Insomnia, The Green Mile, and The Eyes of the Dragon... each different in their style and subject, but well paced!

Liesl (lieslm) | 170 comments I'm coming to this one late, but "It" is my abxolute favorite Stephen King novel. Definitely stay with it! I couldn't put it down.

~~*Julie Kawalec-pearson (jewel77) I remember reading this book when I was a teenager and It creeped me out. I had to read it with the lights on-- even so many years later I still don't think I could get throught it without the lights on at night!

The book that I HATED by SK was the tommy knockers I could not even tell you what that books was about? !

Coalbanks | 186 comments 'Salem's Lot. First I read of SK. Set the tone for his other works nicely. Liked "IT" and the movie made of it/"IT". Right on about kids & their relationships #8 Tina - and how we are supported/dogged by some of those relationships life-long.

Carly Svamvour (faganlady) | 220 comments My first SK was The Dead Zone - that book sold me on Stephen King for life.

There are very few I've read that I didn't like.

Don't care for the Black Tower series much.

Dolly (dollymart) | 5 comments I really enjoyed this book. I read it in high school and it terrified me, but also opened my eyes to alternate views of the universe. It was a little bit "out there," and I can never look at clowns the same way again. One of my favorite quotes came from this book:

"Friends.
There aren’t any such thing as good friend or bad friends.
Maybe there are just friends.
People who stand by you when you're hurt and who helped you feel not so lonely.
Maybe there are worth being scared for and hoping for and living for.
Maybe worth dying for too.
If that what has to be.
No bad friends.
Only people you want.
Need to be with.
People who build their houses in your heart."

Joe Varo I read this one a long time ago. I thought it was excellent...until, that is, I got to the ending.

I found the ending to be rather tasteless and "It" turned out to be the last King that I ever read.
