Femmy | 120 comments What are the books would you recommend to someone who is learning about Islam, after he learns the basics? Would you recommend that he reads some books on exegesis of the Qur'an first (and what books would you recommend)? Or should he read the Seerah? Or about Fiqh? Or about aqidah? Or Islamic philosophy? Or some other field of study?

Femmy | 120 comments Thanks for your comment, Belinda! The person in question is now already a Muslim, but is overwhelmed by the vast amount of books on Islam in bookstores and would like some pointers about where best to start reading.

What aqidah books would you recommend (Indonesian or English)? I have one book lying around in the house, can't remember the title, but have to look for it first.

As for fiqh, I have "Fiqih Praktis" by Muhammad Bagir Al-Habsyi, and some of the "Rahasia-Rahasia ..." series.

Aimme | 12 comments Yea... I agree, I think the most important for someone who wants to understand Islam is meet with "walking islamic book" or barely find "walking qur'an" who can explain Islam in proper way.

But, remembering how Cat Steven (now, Yusuf Islam) was converted, he began by exploring and reading Holy Qur'an. I think it is the best way possible especially for someone from other beliefs.

Anyway, escorting him/her and keeping spirit to learn are very important. I hope him/her, of course also us, will experience the beauty of Islam.

Ps: For islamic books, there are plenty of them, i guess you all better than me in giving recommendation.

Deena | 16 comments Do you know any book about Islam which is simple and easy to understand by beginners?

I had a friend who want to know about Islam and I presume he has little info about Islam let alone the infos to be true.

He already read Al Qur'an but he stils want to know better about Islam.

Plus, he's chinese so a nice simple english book would be nice.

Tynan Power | 6 comments I strongly recommend reading Martin Lings' autobiography of Muhammad. It's easy to read, and it tells a lot about Islam and also about the context of how certain practices came about.

You can also point him to some good Web sites that (together) represent the broad range of Islam---like and

Aimme | 12 comments The Lawful and the Prohibited in Islam (Al-Halal Wal Haram Fil Islam)by Yusuf Al-Qaradawi is really an outstanding book describing laws, rules and guidances in Islam. I am currently reading it, and find it very simple with comprehensive understanding about the philosophy behind all of those rules.

No wonder Islam is perfect as a guidance for human, Because The Creator of human Himself who sent down Islam through His propeth.
