Introduce Yourself!
Howdy! I'm Deb "Ramkitten" Lauman, a hiking writer ... although my novels (so far) have nothing at all to do with the great outdoors or walking trails. But I did come up with the idea for and first draft of my first published novel, "I. Joseph Kellerman," while I was hiking the Appalachian Trail. I spent many, many happy hours and miles with those characters while I was walking each day and then scribbled snippets of dialogue and scenes on lined and unlined paper, the backs of receipts and even once a paper towel as I was lying in my tent at night. I didn't have a headlamp at the time (duh!), so I'd hold my little flashlight in my mouth, prop my head up with one hand and write with the other. Anyhoo, that's kind of the story behind THAT story. And I come up with most of my other ideas for novels, short stories, articles, etc. while I'm walking trails. Something about putting one foot in front of the other stimulates the creative part of my brain.
Well, happy to be here and to meet you all. Looking forward to yacking all things writing, publishing, and reading with you.
Oh, some self-promo: My "hiking writer" site is http://www.debralauman.com

Hi everyone! My name is Sandy and I am self published and I am here to tell you that writing is the hardest profession/hobby I have ever been fortunate enough to be involved in! Oh My Gosh people can be MEAN! I could NEVER intentionally crush a person with mean reviews.
Sandra wrote: "Hi everyone! My name is Sandy and I am self published and I am here to tell you that writing is the hardest profession/hobby I have ever been fortunate enough to be involved in! Oh My Gosh people ..."Sorry to hear that, Sandy. I can understand that not every book is for every reader, but there's no need for people to be downright mean. I personally could never bring myself to write a bad review, so I just prefer to NOT review anything I don't like.
Well, try to focus on the fun of writing and the good reviews and keep your chin up.
Thank you Debra! Yes, I agree. I have given many many reviews and before I would give a down right mean one, I would re-read the book and find the good points, giving my review on those only.
I do believe that the mean reviews come from people that can't even hold a conversation let alone write an entire book. I think jealousy plays a big part in the mean and hateful reviews.
I did read on amazon that a BAD review is GOOD for authors.
ANY attention is better than NO attention....
I go MIA pretty often but I want to thank you all for all the great book suggestions I get from the group. I also am surprised when I read some of the reviews on books before I buy them. I am not a writer just an avid reader but wow you poor writers I think when I read some of these reviews. Some of the books I love will have had some lousy reviews as well as great ones then surprisingly books I really did not enjoy had glowing reviews. Even if I do not like a book I try not to be hateful honestly half the time if I did not love it I will not even leave a review. I had read The Last Letterand loved it . Saw TheThe Little Brideand it mentioned the last letter like if I liked the last letter I would love the little bride. I did not and I did not see how the two were even linked really. Except maybe they have some history in them. Confusing.

My name is Jenyfer Matthews, and I am an author of romance and women's fiction and also a reader. I can't go a day without reading *something*! As an author, I currently have four books available in paperback and also in various digital formats, plus one bargain priced digital bundle that includes my three romance novels. As a reader, I have more books in my TBR pile than I can keep up with, but I'm going to give it a try. I am new to Goodreads so still finding my way around :)
Kia ora from New Zealand! I'm a new Goodreads member and looking for like-minded reading and writing friends. My book, just published is Trouble In Mind: Stories From A Neuropsychologist's Casebook, and is written for the general reader. My previous book, Fractured Minds: A Case-Study Approach to Clinical Neuropsychology contains similar stories but has more academic content as well, and is used as a textbook. I also write "bookclub" fiction; indeed that is my passion, and one day I hope to get either my debut novel published, and after that the one I am currently writing and then....!! I have an author website, and on the "Psychology Today" website I also have a blog. Happy reading,
Jenni Ogden

My name is Amanda Waley. I am a Goodreads author. My love for books and writing started from a young age. Writing books and reading them as well seems to be the only constant in my life. All my books have been self-published by Lulu Press. The first one being in 2008 was a fiction novel called "A Candlelit World" that I co-authored with my best friend and "partner-in-crime" Sara Kay, also a Goodreads author that I invited to this group so be on the lookout for her. We started writing "A Candlelit World" in 1999, and published it nine years later. My two stand-alone books are both collections of poetry. One is titled "Fateful Firsts: A Collection of Poetry," and "Second Thoughts: A Collection of Poetry." I've added all the information for all three books in the Author Lists section of this group for anyone who wants to know more about them.
Thank you, Vincent, for creating this group.

Let's see...I love to read and get advice for my writing. I really want to write a famous novel someday. However, in preparation, I have been applying for a few scholarship essays. I have currently applied for one relying on public vote. It's here: http://www.wyzant.com/scholarships/v2.... I would love to have your support as fellow lovers of literature and writing!
Unfortunately, the above link is not working. This one should: http://www.wyzant.com/scholarships/v2...
