Paul Harry (epawar) | 32 comments I grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada. During the hot summer days of my youth, I cut my teeth on science fiction through novels and comic books. Authors like Edgar Rice Burroughs, Arthur C. Clarke, and Ray Bradbury were but a few writers who shaped my youth. Burroughs’ influence with his John Carter of Mars series inspired me to write The 5 Moons of Tiiana. It was also my Las Vegas connection, working in the gaming industry as a Blackjack and Craps dealer, that inspired another one of my works: NanoVision. I began my writing career while attending the University of Nevada, where I co-wrote a musical before moving on to screenplays and novels.

message 21704: by McCracken (new)

McCracken Jr. (mccrackenpostonjr) | 5 comments I’m McCracken Poston Jr., and my first nonfiction true crime book, “Zenith Man: Death, Love, and Redemption in a Georgia Courtroom” (Citadel, Hardcover, 02/20/2024) has been out for four months now.

It is the true story of my representation of Alvin Ridley, a failed TV repairman who was accused of keeping his wife locked in the basement for decades before killing her. As it turned out, Alvin was neurodivergent, but nobody tested for that or even discussed autism in adults in 1998 as we were preparing for trial. Because of Alvin’s condition and some of my own issues, representing him was a true ordeal.

It was over two decades after his acquittal before the suggestion of a former juror had me take Alvin for testing. The discovery of his being on the autism spectrum, as well as everyone’s greater understanding of that condition, gave Alvin a wonderful last few years in of his life, particularly the last four months after my book came out.
I write this on Thursday July 4th, two days after Alvin died holding my hand. I will miss him greatly.

Dominic Holland | 1 comments Hello, my name is Dominic Holland. I'm 57, I live in the UK. I'm married to Nikki and we have four grown up sons. I am a professional stand up comedian by night and a writer by day. My first two novels were published traditionally but then I got fired and have independently published 7 books since - determined to prove them wrong (a project which remains unresolved and on-going. My books are comic fiction with a moral spine. Books with compelling stories that make readers feel happy. Fairytales but for adults. My life in stand up and fatherhood informs much of these stories and from hereon-in I am determined to become a better book seller and marketeer. I have an unusual family life which is best explained by my first non-fiction book about how my eldest son entered show business and quickly became much more successful than me. My eldest son is Tom Holland and the book in question is called Eclipsed. Its a happy tale by a bemused and proud dad. An unintentional parenting guide perhaps, with a story that not even the most outlandish Hollywood writer would dare dream up.

Sherrie Miranda (sherriemiranda) | 37 comments Wow, Paul, how do you find time to sleep? LOL!
I assume you don't cook as you must barely have time to eat.
So, I have been looking for some time for someone to write AND PITCH the pilot for a TV series of Book 1 of my series.
I have had two screenwriters tell me that CIINO (see below) would make a great TV series. But even if they wrote the pilot (which they don't normally do), they wouldn't know who to pitch it to.
I can't pitch it myself. I'm working on Book 3, then 4, then 5. That keeps me busy.
I always said I could barely sell education to my students & there is nothing more important than education. I'm just not into selling.
Thank you for any advice you can offer me.

Sherrie Miranda's "Crimes & Impunity in New Orleans" follows the dramatic story of naive, sheltered Shelly going to “The Big Easy” to prepare for El Salvador, but has no idea she will encounter sexism and witness racism as well as illegal activities by government agents.

Review: Shelly’s journey in “the city that care forgot.”Sherrie Miranda’s new novel “Crimes and Impunity in New Orleans” puts the reader into a whirlwind of political protests, abusive police, sexist attitudes towards women, and “good old boys” racism in 1980’s New Orleans. Miranda’s second novel follows Shelly, the young northerner, as she quickly finds out that she “isn’t in Kansas anymore” while encountering a slew of picturesque, colorful characters. Reading her book makes you wonder if justice and respect for blacks, immigrants, and women can be reality in America.

In Book 2, "Secrets & Lies in El Salvador," Shelly goes to El Salvador to photograph Salvadorans in the midst of the civil war there. She becomes the keeper of many people's secrets & lies.

Hi, Jasmine

In the book, I have not discussed the inner work that helped me in the journey. Rather, I have written about what the journey has offered me as the result of various painful spiritual ascensions. I am thinking of publishing the next book about inner work.

The only requirement is the virtue or the rightfulness of a spiritual seeker. The right intent to seek the inner answers is the pathway to the inner work. It includes everyone, no specific individual is chosen but the one who follows their inner self becomes the chosen one.

Every individual has their way of tackling the consequences of surfaced traumas, induced by spiritual ascensions. That is their way of self-healing.

Today, I am offering a free book promotion deal for my book: Spaceship Soul: A Spiritual Connection with the Divine. I post the link below. The genre is spirituality and self-healing, self-help.

Mike Takac | 9 comments Hello, I am Mike Takac, and I have a passion for expediting the evolution of global civility. As a retiree from the high-tech sciences, I have ventured to explore new horizons. During this journey, I discovered a fascinating relationship between the physical and social domains. This connection, I believe, holds the key to elevating humanity to new levels of social existence.

My book unveils this groundbreaking perspective, providing a detailed exploration of how the physical constructal law applies to our social systems. By understanding this link, we can unlock new pathways to fostering civility, ethics, and cooperation on a global scale. For those who share my vision of making the world a better place, my book offers a transformative view that bridges the gap between science and society. Join me in this endeavor and discover how the principles of nature can guide us toward a more civilized and harmonious world.

message 21731: by Mike (new)

Mike Takac | 9 comments Dear Dr Jasmine,

Thank you for your interest. My attempt to “summarize the main message in one sentence” relative to the importance of understanding the application of the physical constructal law follows:

The constructal law, the latest discovered law in thermodynamics, posits that natural systems evolve to facilitate easier access to flows—whether of energy, matter, information, social structures, markets, or governance—across all domains, thus improving their configuration for efficiency and performance over time.

Regards,
Mike

Dear Mike,

You are absolutely right. On an atomic level, there is no boundary between anything (a quote from Deepak Chopra); all entities in the universe are interacting via exchange of energy; "the flow" is another angle that you have developed. I am just a normal everyday person who was brought up in Norfolk, where I lived for 42 years and I do all I can to make other people happy, living each day as a new day.
I was always a closed book about my past but would happily discuss areas if these came up in conversation, always looking at the positives and ways to improve my life rather than the issues that arose from my misfortunes.
I have had all manner of jobs but I’m currently self-employed trading as DD Maintenance Services and in my spare time I volunteer for ANDYSMANCLUB as a facilitator.
I now reside happily in Scarborough with my wife and step children but still return fortnightly to my home city to see my children and grandchildren.

I'd appreciate any and all support.

I am also an avid reader. I read the same genres that I write, along with mystery, suspense, thriller and some non-fiction. Basically, if it's a book I'll give it a go. My TBR is ridiculous right now and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Happy Reading!!

Hello, I am a new author, but I have been on goodreads for almost ten years. I'm an avid reader of Fantasy Fiction, YA or NA. My new book is about a sheltered young girl named Kissa, who lives in a kingdom ravaged by a sickness with no cure. She dreams of being a healer and wants to help her people, but discovers unexpected powers within herself. To find out what she can be, Kissa must discover who she is.
