Kaycee Rose I'm Kaycee. My book Victory is my first attempt at writing a novel, and when I got to the end I just had to keep going. So, I wrote the sequel Triumph right after.

I enjoy reading as well, but when I started writing I stopped reading fiction until I was finished with Triumph. I was afraid someone else's work would seep into my brain and unintentionally come out in my own books. Does anyone else have that paranoia, or is it just me?

Cecelia Tichi | 74 comments The Gilded Age called me to mystery fiction after years in the classroom and library--when historical figures shaped themselves into characters for fiction. She is a western silver heiress, he a 5th generation New York Knickerbocker gentleman. Their "odd couple" sleuthing begins in Newport 1898 when a good friend's life is threatened. A poisoner lurks, and "The Val and Roddy DeVere Gilded Age Series" begins with A GILDED DEATH.

message 21608: by Austin (new)

Austin Steel | 4 comments Hey ya'll. My name is Austin Steel and I just published my first novel, Entanglement of a Soul.

This novel is a fictional story which takes place in Austin, Texas. The narrator of the novel is Father Jenkins, a quirky priest / pastor who is somewhat unorthodox in his own belief structure and interpretation of Christianity. Father Jenkins is the fifth incarnation of the soul.

Part One, The Murderer, is centered around the life story of the first incarnation of the Soul, Lazarus, and is told through the dialogue between him and Father Jenkins days before his execution. Lazarus was an orphan growing up who was neglected and abused. He goes through several traumatic experiences which lead him to become a hitman for a cartel. Ultimately, he goes through a metamorphosis of character, turns himself in, and patiently waits to be executed. He comes to the conclusion he could not be forgiven for his sins by God, but that he still could have a path to getting into heaven through being reincarnated and given another chance.

Part two, the Prostitute, is the story of the soul in its second incarnation, as Mary. Mary comes to meet Father Jenkins when he is much younger and just starting out as a Priest, primarily working the confessional. Mary slowly reveals her life story to Father Jenkins over their many conversations which span decades and the two develop a deep friendship. Mary grew up in poverty and abuse, and seemingly fell into being a prostitute (of sorts) until she turned her life around after meeting Father Jenkins, and became an English Teacher. She is ultimately killed in a mugging gone wrong, by the murderer, Lazarus.

Part three of the novel, the Witness is centered around the life, and death of the third incarnation, Jackson. Jackson is a terminally ill patient in the hospital who Father Jenkins spends time with as a part of a program he is working for the Church. Jackson was born and raised in a middle class family, with not too much that ever happens to him throughout his life. He feels as if he has missed out on life and never pursued anything, even though he was given so many great opportunities. Jackson reveals to Father Jenkins in one of their last conversations a murder he once witnessed, which happened to be the murder of Mary, and the shooting of the fourth incarnation, who he calls the Fool.

The final part of the novel is the Epilogue. This is the conversation which took place between Mary, and the fourth incarnation, Spencer, moments before and leading up to the murder. In this conversation, we learn who the fourth incarnation is, and why he is a Fool.

The dialogues between all the main characters illustrate their lives, their stories, and their philosophical and spiritual beliefs. Each of them feels as if they need to be given another chance at life in some way and strive to change their lives for the better in the hope of getting better starting conditions in the next life.

Paul Zareith | 2 comments Hi all, I'm Paul. I am currently working on a series of dystopic books that explore multiple interleaved storylines in a large multiverse inhabited by three major civilizations (with conflicting interests) and numerous tangential ones.

The stories focus deeply on how an individual's or a group's perception of morality is often shaped by their cultures, their own experiences and their ambitions. Besides that we also have plenty of good old violence, numerous instances of well intended actions leading up to completely unexpected and dangerous consequences and lovecraftian monsters lurking in obscure corners of the cosmos.

Always happy to chat with any readers or fellow authors who find these themes interesting. Also, actively looking for reviewers who'd like to be part of my ARC team.

Hilal Ozkan Ozkan | 5 comments Hi everyone,

My name is Hilal and I am new to this group as a new Children's Book Author. As an architect and a book-lover, I've always had a passion for creativity and storytelling. But it's my newest role as a first-time mom, that truly inspired this book. My little baby girl has filled my life with so much joy and wonder, and "The Avocado on a Quest" is a heartfelt tribute to her and the magic she brings into my world every day.

My debut storybook called " The Avocado on a Quest: The story of a curious, brave Avocado's ripening Journey" is published in April 2024.

I hope to share insights and learn from all. I'm extremely excited to be a part of this community!!

By the way, my book is now available for free on Kindle! If you have time to read it (it's all 36 pages), it would mean a lot to me to hear your honest feedback on Amazon and Goodreads.

Sherrie Miranda's "Crimes & Impunity in New Orleans" follows the dramatic story of naive, sheltered Shelly going to “The Big Easy” to prepare for El Salvador, but has no idea she will encounter sexism and witness racism as well as illegal activities by government agents.

Author, Sherrie Miranda's husband made the trailer for "Crimes & Impunity in New Orleans." He wrote the music too.

Review: Shelly’s journey in “the city that care forgot.”Sherrie Miranda’s new novel “Crimes and Impunity in New Orleans” puts the reader into a whirlwind of political protests, abusive police, sexist attitudes towards women, and “good old boys” racism in 1980’s New Orleans. Miranda’s second novel follows Shelly, the young northerner, as she quickly finds out that she “isn’t in Kansas anymore” while encountering a slew of picturesque, colorful characters. Reading her book makes you wonder if justice and respect for blacks, immigrants, and women can be reality in America.

In Book 2, "Secrets & Lies in El Salvador," Shelly goes to El Salvador to photograph Salvadorans in the midst of the civil war there. She becomes the keeper of many people's secrets & lies.

John Zurn | 4 comments Hi, my name is John.

As an individual with a serious bipolar disorder, I’ve struggled my entire life with symptoms that have led to “wrong turns” and “crash landings.” In my attempts to find meaningful spiritual experiences, I finally hit rock bottom in Cook County Jail and recognized that I needed to take medication, to develop coping skills and to accept counseling. In the process, I also began writing imaginatively instead of acting out my creative impulses. Together with meditation and a dramatic change in life style, I have been able to lead a fulfilling life. My books, The End Justifies the Pain and Metamorphosis From Mental Illness to Spiritual Awakening, authentically chronicle my journey from the despair of mental illness to the promise of recovery and spiritual awakening. This painful evolution has greatly contributed to my long term recovery and created a genuine sense of purpose. For a number of years now, symptoms are addressed and managed before they result in hospitalizations and the necessity of “starting over.”

For many years, I worked as a teacher and a rehabilitation counselor at a sheltered workshop. I also have an M.A. in English from Western Illinois University and have been married to my wife, Donna, for over forty years. She has been my best friend and the strongest component of my support system.

Albert Jackson | 8 comments Hello to everyone, readers and writer alike.
My name is Albert Stanley Jackson. I waited 61 years to publish my first novel. Like all of us, life seemed to get in the way of my writing. Sure, I would pen a few short stories and poems from time to time, but never dreamed of sharing them with anyone.
It is that old imposter syndrome we have all heard so much about but never new what to call it.
After losing my partner unexpectedly in 2019, (he was only 63) I became extremely depressed to the point I no longer wished to face another day.
I felt I had no one left in my life and was all alone. That is, until Sylvia Rose revisited me in my dreams, as she often had over the past twenty-five years.
She begged me to come back to the world, promising me that sharing her story and living through her as I wrote the novel, would give me a reason to face yet another lonely day.
You see, Sylvia Rose has been a part of me for many years. In my dreams, written down in files I thought I had lost many years ago.
One day, while going through my sent email folder, I found the beginnings of her story.
At 57 years old I began to pen her story in hopes she was correct. I needed a reason to live again and this gave me focus.
After five years I self published on Amazon. I do have about four more stories to share but doubt I will have time to finish them. I am still trying to market Sylvia Rose's story with very little luck.
I will share an image of the new cover design, you can find the book listed here.
I look forward to getting to know you all and reading the wonderful books you have published as well.
Thank you for humoring and old man.
