Garrett S Broussard | 1 comments Hello! I'm Garrett Broussard, and I just published my first book! "Cacophony of Crowns" is a collection of short stories in the fantasy/sci-fi genre that follow how we deal with power and loss. I'm calling it "The Silmarillion meets Love, Death and Robots".
I've been a software developer in the animation and visual effects space for about 10 years now. I've worked on a number of films, and am currently working with a new studio to get their tools set up from scratch.

Hi Tiffany.
I disagree with some of the things you wrote. Writing is a moment of sharing and growth. In fact, we can improve it infinitely. Personally, I am both a book collector and a writer, and I also write book reviews. As far as I’m concerned, all books are decent and have value. This viewpoint of mine is directed in general, not just at you. I rarely write negative reviews because when evaluating a book that I might not like, I still try to be as objective as possible, setting aside my personal preferences. We should appreciate the months of work that go into creating a book and the idea behind it, focusing on its positive aspects and originality. If we rely solely on personal taste, nothing will ever be enough.
I’ve read hundreds of books that perhaps didn’t align with my personal taste, but objectively, they were impeccably written and original. I still wrote positive reviews because I appreciated the creativity and immense effort that goes into writing a book over months and months of hard work. So, out of respect for the author’s labor, I rarely write completely negative reviews unless the book in question is entirely misleading or harmful.
Thank you for your attention, I wish you a wonderful evening. :)

What you wrote here is absolutely beautiful... I agree with you. Writing is a form of art, and art is subjective.
Just because there may be an art form you may not like, that doesn't make it any less beautiful... That is something I struggled with in school. My art teacher graded my artwork, based on what she personally liked, even though I worked real hard on every piece I did.
I think putting your views in front of beauty, can damage someone's encouragment to keep going.
I know it did me.

P.S You have a beautiful name...

Ariel thank you very much! You have a beautiful name too. I’m sorry for what happened to you; it has also happened to me. But remember that being knowledgeable, like various professionals, doesn’t necessarily correlate with intelligence and the intellectual sensitivity that a person should have.
Always remember that your opinions and choices are valuable. Don’t let others’ opinions divert you from your path. Be authentic and trust yourself.
Never give up!
Keep chasing your dreams! ❤

David Gale | 1 comments Hello all. My name is David Gale. I appreciate the group! I'm a newly minted self published author with two works, "Drug Runner; My Years in the Life" and "Daniel" up on Kindle and Audible. I write a lot, with a number of other projects in various stages. My work starts from my observation and experience, layered with questions that I don't have the answers to. I also read a lot, with the classics taking up my time at the moment, mostly those that I somehow missed, like the works of Thomas Hardy, etc.

Isabelle Balagué | 5 comments This is the most difficult part, not re re re writing and editing. I decided to hire someone to do the proofreading part (on Reedsy) and that stopped the never ending process.
This was not my job anymore and I could focus on another quite difficult part which is writing queries to literary agents... another step I am still working on.
Hope you will find a way to go on on your journey toward success.

Guy Burt | 3 comments Hello gang :-) I'm Guy Burt, and I'm a novelist and screenwriter (you can see the screen stuff I've done over on IMDB).

I'm the process of finding my feet here on Goodreads, but it's exciting to see so much interest and passion for reading and such an engaged and diverse community. Really happy to be here. I originally joined back in 2017, but immediately got swamped with screen projects; and then Covid; and then moving house (and country). So this is me making good on my 2024 resolution to settle in properly on Goodreads :-)

Novels:
The Dandelion Clock (aka A Clock Without Hands: A Novel)
After the Hole (aka The Hole by Burt, Guy (1993) Paperback)
Sophie: A Novel

...and yes, there is something in the pipeline ;-)

I'm hoping to get myself set up with a blog and link it to my page here, so with luck there may be progress reports in due course. And if you have any questions, I'm very open to those too – ask whatever you like on my author page :-)

Hi Guy!

If any of your novels seem like good candidates for my podcast The Page 1 Challenge, and if you'd allow me to use the first page (or so), please let me know. This isn't a typical author interview or book review show - it's.... more quirky.

David Marston | 2 comments Habits Of The Ever Living: Amazon.co.uk: Marston, David: 9798880412600: Books

A Novel that considers the fake news of immortality. How we pretend that we don’t die and that through our political, social and economic organisations, we pretend that we can always have more. Habits Of The Ever Living tells the unsung story of entropy.

David Cornford (david-cornford) | 4 comments Hi fantasy lovers.

I have been writing ever since David Gemmell invited me into his home, made me a cup of tea and explained how Rocky was the best movie ever made. As I stood in his study holding Druss's axe looking up at a wall of wild-west era pistols from his Jon Shannow novels, I knew I had found my calling. Born in Canada, raised in England and then let loose on the world, I have lived in Kolkata's squalor, Santa Monica's splendour and everything in-between. Western Australia is now my home with my wife of unfathomable patience and my daughter who is a pixie-mermaid-fairy and has a fish.

I'm VERY excited to say my first novel-length story (I am not saying its a book or an actual novel until its published!) is in final beta reading. ‘Legacy & Portents' (title is WIP) is an epic fantasy set in a mythical land called Dannum in what would be Europe's mid-1800s - magic, monsters, ships of the line and dragons. It can be read as a stand alone, but I am already well into the next part of the story should it be well received.

I'll be posting updates and visuals from the story on my profile (website will be coming), so please add me if you would like to keep informed.

In about a week I'm releasing the second Lance Tallbear mystery/thriller-The Killing Ground. Tallbear is asked by his friend, FBI agent Brad Hanley to go undercover in the drug and human smuggling operations of the Sinaloa Cartel. As pressure ramps up along the border, he finds himself caught in a demented millionaire's dream of power and the grief greed is spreading across the deserts of Arizona. Can he help a friend, protect those he loves, and still manage to stay alive? An old desert rat-come out, get your copy, and root for the good guy.

Julie Morrison | 2 comments I'm Julie Morrison, a transportation-planner-turned-poet by way of detours through ranching and writing about it. I'm a memoirist (Barbed: A Memoir is my first book, telling the story off going from zero-to-rancher through an interstate move), but I am also a poet, short story writer, essayist, and I started my writing journey hoping to become a YA author.

Some of my favorite authors, whose craft I would love to emulate, include: Amor Towles, Ivan Doig, Fredrik Backman, Barbara Kingsolver, Luis Alberto Urrea, Maggie Smith, and Derek Miller. I am also completely charmed by the Jodi Taylor St. Mary's and Time Police books, and can't pass up the latest wisdom from Lula, as dispensed in the latest Stephanie Plum book by Janet Evanovich.

I love hearing what people are reading and why, and look forward to engaging more in this and in other Goodreads groups on exactly that topic!

Steve Williams | 8 comments Greetings, I'm Steve Williams, longtime musician and history schoolteacher. My new book, out since March, is entitled Music Titans - 250 Greatest Recording Artists of the Past 100 Years. Using a clear, well explained metric, the book lists and ranks the most consequential musical artists of the past 100 tears (1920s through today). All genres are represented. Music publisher Peter Burke called the book "an absolute masterpiece!"; while Grammy winning producer Jeffrey Weber wrote, "I love this book!" The book currently has a 4.75 rating on Goodreads and a 4.4 on Amazon. It is widely available, and i'd be honored if you check it out. Thanks.

message 21595: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Chance (achanceforawareness) | 1 comments Hello to all parents in this group! I am new to Goodreads, and I am also a new author! I wrote the book titled "Talk To Them," which is a book for parents, guardians, and caregivers to use as a guide to navigate difficult conversations with kids in their care.

Let me introduce myself, my name is Heidi Chance. I am a retired Phoenix Police Department Human Trafficking undercover detective who served 25 years. I spent over 13 years working as an undercover detective investigating sex buyers and traffickers and rescuing countless adult and juvenile victims of sex trafficking.

I am a sought-after powerhouse speaker, consultant, and nationally recognized trainer. Since 2014, I have traveled across the United States teaching other law enforcement agencies for the National Justice Training Center (NCJTC) of Fox Valley Technical College, Amber Alert program. I am also featured in the Frontline PBS documentary "Sex Trafficking in America".

I have a unique lived experience with sex trafficking through working as an undercover and having 1000's of sex buyers and 100's of traffickers contact me attempting to exploit me. I've had the satisfaction of putting these individuals in jail or prison. I even have an investigation I speak about, which is a record in the United States. The case involved familial trafficking, where the suspect trafficked his niece and stepdaughter as well as 5 other adults. The suspect took the case to trial which lasted 7 months, and he was found guilty on 101 out of 105 counts of felony charges. The judge sentenced him to 493,5 years. This case is featured on my website.

Since retiring, I created my awareness training website with a blog and I post and share about sex trafficking at Achanceforawareness.com. I have also created an online training course for parents and other community members to learn about the problem of sex trafficking and what individuals can do to help fight the problem.

I just went "live" on Amazon today if you are interested. Please let me know if you found the book helpful, and I look forward to your feedback!
