Wells Carroll | 8 comments Wells Carroll
Kali Rises: Marauding Stars Book 1

I'm Wells Carroll... and I am not a person. Honest. I am a pen name for a group of writers, retired military officers and sci-fi geeks who had a crazy concept. Let's write an 8-book sci-fi series called Marauding Stars. It's about societal fears. You know, things like climate change, AI singularity, genetic manipulation, societal injustice, economic crashes and many, many more.

You might be wondering why a group would use a pen name. Well, in the current environment of political correctness, wokeness, cancel culture... who wouldn't want to be a non de plume? In the Marauding Stars series, as Wells Carroll the group can discuss everything from politics to AI, human nature to alien religion, and everything in-between. Ardent politically/socially aware readers who find fault with what's written can object... but have no idea which contributor wrote that part of the book. Almost a 100% chance they will get in hot water if they want to attack this group of contributors.

The contributors vary in age from 17 to 74; in politics, covering the gamut of parties; in race, got it all except aliens; in gender preference, covering every spectrum. Somehow they all get along... and are trying to get everyone else to join them.

Speaking of joining, I am always looking for more contributors to form my collective psyche. After you've read Kali Rises: Marauding Stars Book 1, if that universe sparks your creativity and you believe there's a character you'd like to add... or if you'd like to try a spinoff book... then drop me a line and I'll pass on the message to the staff at Stellar Nursery Media. If you can't reach me here, jump over to www.stellarnursery.net.

The first three books are finished. Book 1 is available through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or Ingrams. Book 2 comes out in June, and Book 3 in November. Books 4-6 will be published in 2025, and 7-8 in 2026. And not to worry... we have a better track record than NASA when it comes to meeting benchmarks and deadlines.

Ann-Elizabeth Briars | 1 comments Hi everyone! Ann-Elizabeth here. A Canadian author that enjoys writing historical romance with a dark twist.

My first novel, The Year of Fallen Stars, revolves around an unsolved Victorian murder that forces together the son of an English crime lord in 1881 and a Canadian woman living over a century later. Yes, it's about time travel. And forbidden love, dark secrets and 19th century gangs!

You can find the book here:

The sequel will hopefully be published in April.

I look forward to being part of this fun community. Cheers!

I'm a multi-genre author and will post more about my books in the genre threads. Currently, I have a published cozy mystery with its sequel out next month, an off-trope contemporary romance, and am writing a thriller.
I live in the Midwest, U.S. I like to read in most all genres as long as the books are well-written and challenge me to think differently about the world, experience, and teach me something new.

David Parish | 4 comments Cheers everyone. My first novel, called The Twitter Gospels, is set for publication on April 9 and my second one is well underway. As a lifelong musician I continue to be a little shocked at how creatively satisfying writing is, though in ways that are entirely different than music. I've always said that I like myself best while playing music. Though still more true than not, writing is edging in to that calculus. That said, the other side of the writing coin - self-promotion - leaves me cold. I suppose the difference is that my music speaks for itself - good, bad or indifferent. While writing a novel demands some amount of self-promotion. I'm not quite there yet ...

The five Campbell sisters in this family saga are each as different as sisters could possibly be, yet their sister-bond remains unbreakable. Add in a strong-but-silent decorated Navy Seal, a dive shop owner, a bodyguard, a cop, and a billionaire, and things get very interesting. The emotion, the heartache, the soul-searching, the learning to trust, and all the “feels” of falling in love are woven into this spell binding five-book family series.
I also have two other series already published. https://kdp.amazon.com/en_US/series/0...

The first two were about terrorists, informed by working at the Transportation Security Administration after 40 years in journalism, mostly as a reporter and editor in D.C. Those books are Blending In and Killer Politics; read the latter as a sequel or a stand-alone book. My new book is January 6: A Novel, my take on what could have happened when the Capitol was stormed. I've tied them together as a series - The Anti-Hero Rebellions. Writing is something I really enjoying, and I've written poetry on and off since I was a teenager. Entered a few short story competitions, and even managed to get an honorable mention in the Vile Puns Category in the 2019 Bulwer Lytton Contest!

I live in Oklahoma, married with kids, work a different day job full-time but am looking forward to continuing to write books.

Hello Isabelle,

I was intrigued to read the description of your writing, "speculative fiction and fantasy but always rooted in our contemporary world. My world is somewhat strange and tainted with humor." This could have been a description of the world I created for my first novel and its sequel (which is about two-thirds written). The only word I would change when describing my fictional world is 'contemporary', and replace it with 'historical'. Nevertheless, there is much a writer can say about our current, real world through a fictional world, especially when it is "tainted with humor".

I was also intrigued that, as a French person, you write in English; that sounds like quite an accomplishment. Is there a reason for this?

(I suppose I had better introduce myself here too as I am new to Goodreads.)

message 21479: by Michael (new)

Michael Smith | 15 comments Long story, short...
I started writing short stories about four years ago. Family and friends encouraged me to write more, then they encouraged me to publish.

August 2023 - I was able to publish my first collection of short stories, 'Fonts', as an eBook.

Dec 2023 - Published my first novel, 'Gruseltal', again as an eBook.

Feb 2024 - Entered three short stories in an international writing competition (closing date still in the future)

March 2024 - planning to publish my second collection of short stories, called 'Songs'.

Currently working on a sequel to 'Gruseltal', plus more short stories for a new collection, and am aiming to improve my style by writing very short stories (Flash Fiction).

If any of this is of interest, there's more info on my Goodreads Author page. Thanks for reading this far.

Greetings. My name is Steve Williams. After two intensive years of listening and research, I recently published Music Titans - 250 Greatest Recording Artists of the Past 100 Years. The book explores 250 of the most "consequential" musicians of the past century (1920s-2020s). You will find artists of every genre profiled, from pop to rock, R&B to hip-hop, blues to jazz, country to classical. The book combines my lifetime love of and involvement in music, history, and education. Several industry professionals have taken note– music publisher Peter Burke called it a "masterpiece"; Grammy winning music producer Jeffrey Weber wrote, "I love this book!"; rock historian and author Kevin Buck opined, "The fact that it spans all major genres only increases my respect for Mr. Williams' outstanding work product." I make my home, alongside my wife, in Maui. I am honored to join this group.

James Edward | 1 comments Hello Family... My name is James and it is very nice to meet all of you book loving souls. I am not only a new author, but am also very new to writing, so I am humbled to present my book to you all. It is a memoir with a twist. It is a book that questions why people believe what they have chosen to believe. To answer that question, I start with myself and I take you on a journey where I explore how I came to understand my own personal beliefs.

The title is: History and the Topics We Can't Discuss in Public Anymore: A Memoir and Journey to Understanding Those Taught Beliefs of Religion, Politics, and Nutrition.

I know, sounds very controversial because these topics seem to bring the worst out in all of us. But it really is just a reflection of those views as I explore them for myself. In an attempt to understand why we are so divided and passionate about these issues, I take my readers with me as I recall my upbringing in the early days of what is now called Silicon Valley, and a Pacific Northwest homestead. How I learned political debate at the dinner table and confronted what I believed were contradictions of religious dogma. What I learned from my career in law and by pushing the limits of human ability on mountaintops of the Cascades, the Andes, and the Himalayas. It reflects how experiences can challenged our preconceived notions and can lead us to deeper understandings of our world and bridge divisions prevalent in our world today.

I am excited for any feedback, advice, and welcome critical comments.

Thank you,
James

Christopher Quick How do you do fellow authors? *(Insert Steve Buscemi with a skateboard)

I'm Chris and try to crank out a yarn every so often. It's been 5 years since I (self)published anything, but I'm back and giving it a new go with renewed zeal and vigor! Anyway, I did a thing and wrote a tongue-in-cheek space adventure starring a plumber on a space station. I'm giving it away since I think that's a fair market price for it.

https://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/sh...

I write about what I know. The first (terrible) book I wrote was about being in the military, but I changed the setting to SPAAAAAaaaaace, because its more fun.

Now I work at a plumbing company, so I wrote about a plumber.... In SPAAAAAaaaaaace.

That's me. Look forward to... whatever it is we do here together.

I'm a first-time author. My debut book will be published soon. It's called Lessons Earned: a short blend of memoir meets self-help. I share stories about my journey into my forties and lessons I learned the hard way. It's an entertaining and emotional peek inside my life as well as a call to action to excavate your own lessons and how to better your live by applying them! The second book (the next decade) is being written as well. Should be out this year. I love to share with and help other women with life relationships and self-discovery...along the way, learning more about myself & life.

I love to read! I mostly read non-fiction to learn and improve but also sprinkle it with thrillers, light hearted fiction and true crime to get away from "myself".

Thanks for having me in the group! I'm looking forward to connecting with other bibliophiles.
Happy reading!

John McBrearty | 6 comments LOL yes, that is a good catch. I have an eclectic library, to say the least. I am currently finishing my LEADERSHIP LESSONS lecture book because I have been approached by several colleges to give lectures on the subject. That book is entitled, ARMY VALUES, "Lessons in Leadership". I also wrote several others but am waiting for my editor to jump on them. They include; "HOW TO BEGIN WRITING AND GET PUBLISHED," "MY MILITAR LIFE," (autobiography), and COMBAT JOURNAL, Part 6 (a compilation of all the previous 5 books in the series. Believe it or not, I have written a children's book series but am in negotiations with illustrators which is slowing down the process.

(If anyone out there has any good leads on children's book illustrators, give me a shout-out.)

BTW, thank you for your service. I too was OIF II (CSC Scania, FOB Kalsu, Anaconda, Cedar, etc.) Email me and I will send you a complimentary copy of one of my OIF books. I wrote them with veterans in mind.
