Marc Hello. My name is Marc Herman, and I'm a journalist.
http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

I'm the author of a book called Searching for El Dorado, which was about a gold rush in the Amazon. A print edition appeared in 2004 and then an electronic edition in 2007.
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/81...

Lately I added to that a Kindle Single, called The Shores of Tripoli, published a few weeks ago. It's based on reporting I did in Libya last summer.

Thanks for organizing the group and I look forward to participating!

You're absolutely right! Sorry to post inaccurate info. It was LightningSource I had to petition (and from whom I never got replies), not Lulu. I've never had any experience with Lulu at all.

In my defense, they both begin with "L" and my brain glitches regularly...although that doesn't undo the impressions I may have left. My most sincere apologies to Lulu and this forum for posting that inaccurate comment. I'm sure Lulu must have very good service, from the other comments here.

FWIW, I've used CreateSpace, found them to be excellent, and also saw no delays in my titles being automatically offered on all the other European Amazon sites. I didn't have to apply separately to become a vendor of Amazon UK or other Amazons. I wonder if it was Amazon (who has been preoccupied of late with rolling out Amazon Spain, Amazon France, Amazon Italy...) rather than CreateSpace, who was the source of the disconnect or delay for you? Amazon has at times been sooooo lethargic in changing pricing and such for me (although at other times they've been quicker).

Just a thought.

Thomas Knight (thomasaknight) | 12 comments Hi Everyone!

I'm a huge Fantasy fan, having been reading the genre for about 20ish years. I also work as a full-time software developer, part-time fantasy author, 24/7 father of two little girls, and I'm an avid role-player. :)

Steven Wood Collins (stevenwoodcollins) | 10 comments Greetings,

My name is Steven Wood Collins. I authored a sci-fi/fantasy novel which was published last May.

You can learn vastly more about me at my Goodreads Author Blog (http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...).

Who would want to read Puramore? Well, if you're a Rosicrucian with a sense of humour, you'll definitely enjoy the read. If you're a humourless Southern Baptist, don't even think of opening the book. If you're a Dr Who fan, buy a copy immediately.

I'm currently working on the sequel.

Cheers.

I hope to get more recommendations from others. My style is women's fiction and humor. Anything like A Life Lived Ridiculously and Bridget Jones' Diary is right up my street.

Chris Howard (chrishoward) | 2 comments Hi! I'm Chris - an avid reader and writer, and I'm starting to get into GoodReads so feel free to stop by my page and say hello. I love all sorts of fiction - anything that combines a poetic voice with a strong story and characters you miss when the tale's all told. That's pretty much what I try to do with my own work, too... Just finished the SCORPIO RACES and now reading SHANTARAM... Happy Holidays to all! CHEERS!

Cassian Brown Hello There
I'm Cas and I live in a very multicultural part of Australia's harbor city. I'll keep this post serious because, sadly, I often chuckle at my own jokes and I've just had a double hernia op and if I cough or laugh it hurts!
Yes, I am a writer. As Cassian Brown I have two titles ( Ave Judas and Baxter Mariah ) listed on Good Reads and elsewhere. They are both Science Fiction crossovers. Ave Judas is an SF conspiracy thriller and Baxter Mariah is an SF horror adventure.
I love writing - or, more accurately, rewriting. Once I have a first draft and start reworking the material I often experience what I term as "going inside". It can be transformative. When the work is going well I feel grounded, my life seems purposeful to me and the world is a good place indeed.
Regards from Sydney
Cas

Nancy Bilyeau | 7 comments Hi everyone:

I'm the author of The Crown, a historical thriller set in Tudor England. My main character is a Dominican novice forced to search her priory for a centuries' old object of mystical importance. Her adventures take place during the Dissolution of the Monasteries, when Henry VIII was breaking from Rome.

My book will be published on Jan. 10, 2012, in North America by Touchstone/Simon&Schuster; in February 2012 in the United Kingdom by Orion; and throughout the year in Germany, Italy, Portugal, Brazil, the Netherlands, and Poland.

I've been in Goodreads for about six months and I love it. I've been a bookworm my whole life; I just raced through Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander," and was delighted to be able to post my review last night.

I look forward to "meeting" you.

Sarah Weathersby (saraphen) Hello. My name is Sarah Weathersby. I published a memoir in 2008, Motherless Child - stories from a life. I am currently working on a romantic adventure that takes place on the internet. The main characters are in their 50's and 60's, and have a long distance relationship that goes really bad. My current working title is Tell Them I Died.

Meanwhile, I read mostly thrillers, and whatever my book clubs choose for the monthly selection.

message 2019: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (alaskaell) Hi! My name is Barbara and I currently live in Indiana. I am a voracious reader. About 10 years ago, I moved to bush Alaska for some solitude to write "The Great American Novel." All that solitude just gave me more reasons to read. Never did do much writing (well, a lot of short stories) Once I realized I wasn't going to write, I returned to civilization.

I read all genres, but not too much horror since I visualize too much and get nightmares real easy. Right now I am on a historical fiction and sci-fi kick, but to stay out of a rut, I continue to read other things.

And when I say that I am a voracious reader, I mean it. I constantly have a book near me. This year I have read over 100 books. Next year my goal is to keep a more accurate account of the books I read so I know exactly how many I have read (my sister and I are sort of doing a competition to see who reads the most, this year I won only because she had a 6-week class which interrupted her enjoyment reading).

N.L. Riviezzo (nlriviezzo) | 2 comments Hi! My name is N.L. Riviezzo and I live in Colorado. I currently have one published work, The Heart of Autumn, and - in 2012 - I will have at least three more works published. I write poetry in all forms. I'm coming to the end of completing my first novel written in verse. A long process but a fulfilling one.

When I am not writing, I work as a freelance editor and a freelance bookkeeper.

I am a very avid reader - close to 500 books a year - and have a book buying addiction. Essentially, I'm a major data geek. I love words, numbers, paper, ink, and data.

My reading passions are Poetry, Novels in Verse, Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy, Horror/Fantasy/Sci-Fi Young Adult, some Sci-Fi, some Historical Fiction, quirky Murder Mysteries, and Amish Fiction.

The first two books in my Texas Druids trilogy are available for Kindle and Nook. I've also published a popular memoir titled Six Cats In My Kitchen, available exclusively on Amazon.

With Christmas over, I'm now busy working on a novella titled White Witch. This is a prequel to Darlin' Druid, book one in my Druids series. It should be available soon. Then it's on to book three in the trilogy.

D.H. Nevins (dhnevins) | 5 comments Hi everyone,

I've been lurking around here for the past few months, so I figured it was high time I introduced myself.

I just released my first book, Wormwood, in September and then in October, I started a big backpacking trip around the world that will last until late May. Timing has never been my strong suit to say the least. Wormwood is now in a kind of limbo because limited time and internet access simply mean that I can't promote it while I travel. Oh well! Wormwood will wait.

When I'm not traveling, I pay the bills by teachihng small children, and then I go home and write about destroying the world. Fun. I love to read, hike, camp, engage in adventure/thrill sports and ride my motorcycle (I named it Grendel). When I have time, I throw myself into our local theatre and either act or direct.

My absolute favourite thing to do, however, is sit in a comfy chair and write stories on my netbook, while my cat, Frog, purrs on my lap. Can't wait to do that when I get back home!

Hi Jeffrey, I'd suggest if you haven't already opening a twitter account and facebook acct for marketing your book eventually but make sure you aren't there JUST to market. Just go on with the mindset of making friends and they will eventually check out your work as they get to know you. As far as a good self publisher, I would look into createspace (I wouldn't go with authorhouse) I would also use kindle direct publishing to publish as an ebook as my first book is selling really well on kindle and it cost me nothing but my time. I just recently made a trailer for my book as well which has gotten some really good results but that may be something you can look into later. Good luck!

Chris Galford (galfordc) | 28 comments Hello and happy holidays, everyone!

My name is Chris Galford, and I'm one of those many sorts that have been around for months...but are just now getting in on the action and good fun. I dare say I'm an avid pursuer of both sides of the field here with interests across the board, but a preference for fantasy, for sci-fi, and for (drum roll) the poetic. Odd mix, no?

I am a recent addition to the authoring world, having published my debut novel, The Hollow March , earlier this month. It is an adult fantasy novel set in a period of renaissance - and of war. Writing, though? Well, it's the story I'm sure you've all heard repeated many times here: been reading since I was little, people told me that imagination thing would just go away (clue: it didn't), and so I've been happily putting those thoughts to paper and working to make it a profession.

By day, I wear the journalist hat. By night, the fantasy writer/poet hat. Afternoons are spent trying to make sure the two hats don't get bungled up.

Looks like a great group you lot have forged here, and I look forward to getting to know you all.
