Kat (katzombie) Hi all,

I'm Kat, and Aussie living in the Netherlands and I wish I could say I'm a writer, however I'm not :-)

I'm a reader, the hard-core type! Although my job tends to get in the way of my reading time far too often. I have a strong preference for post-apocalyptic, zombies and horror, but will read almost everything (except romance!)

Great to see all these authors posting!

Is that odd?

Joyce Mitchell | 15 comments I'm Joyce L. Mitchell, author of Unheard Cries A Marriage Horror, novel of a southern country family that lived in turmoil due to the dominating, abusive relationship of the Rock Store rebel at Pleasant Grove, Aaron Lerner. Emma, the wife, was a victim of a love that was one-sided and for years it seemed there was no hope to ever live a normal life. In 1955, Aaron was banned from county and his mother, Bessie and her neighbor would take large afghan to the Alabama line, sneak him to Ga in car trunk or floorboard. Two of Emma's children went to Mobile,AL found and beat him like he did their mom. Story about KKK, moonshine, marriage horror and Mahaley Lancaster, well-known psychic from Heard County. Betty Jo went with grandfather on many trips to make moonshine runs. Written from true events.

Also, Rock Store Short Stories (heart felt deep impacting emotional short stories).

Third one is Dink and Daisy, children's story of one not so cute ox-eye daisy (Dink) and a slender beautiful gerbera daisy (Daisy), who were accidentally planted in the wrong place and it seemed they would never be noticed by the owners (Barton's). The goal of all daisies was to be placed in a beautiful bouquet in the Barton's house as a place to be honored for their beauty. Their story displays how even when not as expected, life can still turn out good if you just "bloom where you are planted" My fb page: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?i... my twitter handle: @Joyce5577

I am a painter, photographer, poet, house builder, tree planter; lover of libraries and the landscape, traveler. My most recent book is DRAWING THE LINE, a memoir. Before that, BOX OF LIGHT-CAJA DE LUZ, a bilingual book of poetry, STONE MUSIC, and INTIMATE LANDSCAPES. One of my great pleasures is to be editor and midwife to other artist's books. I love the collaboration.

Benjamin Buchholz | 2 comments Hi, ya'll. I'm a new author, Army Officer, and currently also a grad student at Princeton. My first novel is coming out next month from Little, Brown.

It's called
One Hundred and One Nights One Hundred and One Nights A Novel by Benjamin Buchholz

It fictionalizes, from the Iraqi perspective, the story of a bombing in a town where I worked in Iraq during the bloody years of 2005 and 2006.

Hi Kat,

You made me laugh when you said that you read almost everything except romance. Most of the time I shy away from romance novels, but I love romance in genre fiction.

OK maybe I was a little bit hasty on that claim - I've read some genre books that could definitely be classified as romance.

But for the most part, having a very sarcastic mind, if I read romance I spend the whole time thinking ''yeah, right, sure he got down on one knee in front of her high school reunion and declared his undying love after 20 years of wanting her from afar - after a pint of rum maybe''...sometimes I'm my own reading worst enemy!

Dantalion of the Goetia (dantalionofthegoetia) | 16 comments Dantalion of the Goetia by Tina M.E.
Hi Everyone..I'm Tina, author of Dantalion Of The Goetia, a parnormal fantasy romance.

Dantalion, an immortal angel of God, has fallen from grace and is condemned as one of 72 demons of an ancient 17th century grimoire referred to as The Goetia. He seduces a mortal college girl and practitioner of the occult named Laurel, who summons his true demonic form in the Courtyard of the Undead, creating an unexplainable relationship of love, obsession, and redemption.

Please subscribe http://www.fantasyromanceoccult.com as I am having a November Book Giveaway (paperback to U.S.) (PDF ebook to INT.) I also have the book listed for 99 cents on Amazon E-books.. I would be happy to do book swaps and list other giveaways on my site...send me a comment :) Happy Reading!

I felt the same. Occasionally I’d pick up a bad romance novel, so I can say in a slightly sarcastic tone, “Oh, really?” One time, I read an erotica romance novel. The author used 25 pages to passionately describe one sex scene. I was almost awed when the scene was finaly over. When I write a sex/love scene, I usually do a page or two.

Barbara (barbaraannewaite) | 8 comments Greetings to all. I'm Barbara and I have always been a voracious reader. Now I am an author of a non-fiction memoir. "Elsie -Adventures of an Arizona Schoolteacher 1913-1916" is on Amazon. I read my grandmother's letters and journals from 1913-1916 and found within the yellowed pages a tender love story and a vibrant picture of what the baby state of Arizona was like. Elsie was an amazing story-teller. I let her do most of the book in her own words. I researched and added historical tidbits. It was a time period filled with changes. Perhaps the most interesting change was watching Elsie transform from a college-educated "bit of a snob" to a bare-back riding lover of rural Arizona and its people who lived off the land. What an adventure it has been to write this book.

Joe Cawley (joecawley) | 12 comments Good morning, good afternoon, goodnight... depending on where you all are on this globe. I'm a travel writer, author and freelance dragon slayer living in the sunny climes of Tenerife, one of Spain's remote Canary Islands. Loving the Goodreads experience so far and hope to make some new friends and contacts. My first book More Ketchup than Salsa won 'Best Travel Narrative 2007' and tells a fish-out-of-water story about moving abroad. Although the location may not mean much to non-Europeans, hopefully the moral will - the grass is not always greener on the other side. Specialising in humour, this is the first of many books that I hope to release from captivity. Look forward to hearing from other authors, humour readers and anybody else with a connection.More Ketchup Than Salsa

In today’s society, I am very disappointed in the attitude and disrespect that I see from neighborhood communities.

Not only disrespect for themselves but for everyone around them.

This is a very simple 10 step book on how to become a True Good Neighbor.

Please use coupon code VK67Z to receive this book for 99 cents at https://www.smashwords.com/books/view...

I enjoy things like Reese Cups and fried chicken and Simon Cowell. I loathe exercise, high heels, and licorice. If you put a piece of chocolate in front of me you must not have wanted it in the first place. JA Konrath recently busting me on Twitter for asking if his novel, The List, was any good. David Gregory Lloyd (dlboker) | 7 comments Hi all,

I am David Lloyd. At the age of 57 I have just published my first novel - As I Died Laughing - as an e-book through E-Book Publishers. I am still getting used to being called an "author".

I am originally from Canada, but have lived in Israel most of my adult life. My blog - Why I May Still Be Canadian - is an irreverent look at all things Canadian and Israeli through the eyes of a Canadian expat.

I am glad to have the opportunity to join a group like this. After publishing my book, I thought - "What now?" It was as if suddenly the characters I had created had taken on a life of their own and deserted me. But I realize now that there is a whole new world out there that I haven't yet explored. And the idea of authors and readers discussing writing together takes us into a whole new realm of the writing experience.

Barbara Sissel (barbarasissel) | 4 comments Hi everyone,

I've been a member for awhile as a reader and an author ... kind of watching from the sidelines! I was drawn to the site though the love of reading, but then also, when I indie published my first novel last August, I saw I could sign up as an author too. I write commercial fiction: The Ninth Step, and The Volunteer are rooted in a basic premise that at the heart of every crime, there's a family, collateral damage, the struggle to forgive, the fight to survive. I write freelance, as well, and do book reviews at my website and at www.boxocto.com. If you're interested, I also blog sometimes at http://barbarataylorsissel.com/blog/ and would love to have you come visit. Hoping to share the joy!

Have written one anthology of short stories, and three novels, way back in 1995. I'm trying to re-issue them.
Nice to meet so many other authors!

message 1846: by Xavier (last edited Nov 18, 2011 06:53PM) (new)

Xavier (xpxp) | 5 comments Hello,

Actually I'm coming out with a new title soon, and it's intended to be more of a service. I am researching the interaction between authors and readers, particularly independent authors or authors represented by smaller boutique publishers, and those readers who rate and review authors' works. Any stories you might have, touching or frustrating or horrific, from anywhere (Amazon, B&N, Google Books, iBookstore, Smashwords, whatever) I'll love to hear about and will investigate if I'm able to. Your tales, if they're good enough, can be published. They can be kept secret if you wish, can be sanitized to obfuscate your identity, or they can be overtly exposed. I will occasionally make the first overture (normally to the author) if I see a good example, but don't always count on me finding you. If an author and a reviewer both contact me independently, you can bet I'll look into it and root out good behavior from bad.

I'm your resource. And your fair-minded champion. I'm not afraid to say what discretion forces you to swallow and endure. Get your story out and blame the airing of it on me. (And if I come across foul play, its fair game even if you didn't steer me there.) I won't pull any punches, and I probably won't give the guilty their moment to deny or object, especially if they didn't give the same courtesy; they should have behaved better to begin with!

There's far too much abuse going on. I'm sure Goodreads doesn't see a lot of this, but it is common on the selling sites. And at some point someone has to act as a clearing house for statements that need making. Someone has to establish a basic code of ethics by which the poorly behaved are judged.

I aim to do what I can. Contact me with any tales (short or tall) at xpeauzet@yahoo.com

Contact your fellow authors, whether Goodreads members yet or not, and tell them how to connect with me.

I'm twenty-one years old and I have been writing stories since the day I learnt to write. There hasn't been a day go by in my life when I haven't written anything to something! That being said, I'm not a published author and have only written one novel which needs to be edited. I'm currently doing NaNo though so I will have written two very shortly!

Aside from that I'm an avid reader and am now running a blog for reviews, something that I have found to be incredibly enjoyable!

Nice to meet you all!

message 1849: by Zi (new)

Zi (thebookishgamer) | 6 comments Hello, recently got back into being active on GoodReads. I'm both a writer and a reader, been doing both activities ever since I learned how. Writing is a passion of mine, so when I got to University there wasn't anything else I wanted to major in, resulting in getting a BA in Creative Writing. I had a professor who called one piece I wrote "brilliant". That was a proud moment, and I hope to publish it one day. Sometimes I toy with the idea of doing an MFA program. I write various things; my first published e-book is for children and/or cat lovers as it follows an orange tabby named Pixie through 4 short stories. It's called Tales of Pixie the Cat: Four Short Stories, available on Amazon. I'm also donating a portion of royalties from it to an animal shelter.

As for reading, I'll read just about anything that interests me, but I'm not really a fan of all these vampire novels... However, I enjoy YA lit, fantasy, sci-fi and urban/paranormal fantasy the most.
